First Plant Haul of 2024 - 🌸🌺🌳🚙

Three kinds of daffodils bloom now as well as hellebores and the cherry tree. It’s exciting to see flowers! For more flowers, my dahlia tubers started sprouting, and seeds of pincushion flowers, strawflowers, and snapdragons have germinated under lights. Like other gardeners, I obsessively check weather reports for frost warnings.

Our garden centres aren’t open yet here in Southwestern Ontario Canada. Today it is 32 and cloudy and windy. Cold. I envy you your weather. Oh how we long for warm weather.

Same here in WI. Anywhere from 1-5” some 8” this week and weekend. We had extremely warm winter way above avg temps and this week barely out of freezing during the day. Today is the one exception. For all of us in cold country it’s a long wait.

😅 I think the cold blast is heading east. WI is going to have winter -1-4, 2-5” Thur/fri and Sun/Mon. They can be more accurate when it gets here😂. Cold week and today is only warm day.

Great Haul! About the Creeping Phlox, I think you can shear it for more bloom. But I think its flowering early, I'm in Zone 6 (?), Paris subirbs and I have one from last year that's not blooming yet, BUT a couple weeks ago I brought one home from a local store and it is flowering.

Nice! The bunnies always eat my creeping phlox flowers. We’re getting a couple cold nights and I need to protect my hydrangea buds. No blooms last year.

The first signs of spring have sprung in my local garden centers! I couldn't help myself and brought home lots of tulips, daffodils, violas, grape hyacinth, pussy willow branches...etc. I've planted my spring containers just in time for my area to get a bit more snow at the end of the week 🤦🏻‍♀️ I will be doing lots of covering😂

Nothing but snow coming! Things are budding up too soon and may lose fruit this year. Maple syrup was collected a month early. We just get too cold of nights. Welcome our new spring winter this week-sigh.

The phlox are a great choice and a great color ! I have some phlox and I don’t THINK the rabbits or deer have ever bothered them. 🪻💚🙃
