Old timer meat hauler showed me this little trick. To make the inside of your refeer smell pretty after a stinky load is go to the grocery store and buy a few little jugs of vanilla for cooking. And after you drop the load and can't get a wash, just sweep out and then along the sides on the floor by the walls put some drops here and there along the sides so the dock doesn't see the spots. And turn the refeer on to get the air to circulated and open the little inspection door open to allow the air to circulate some. Then you have nice fresh smelling of clean refeer trailer.

You must keep your reefer tank at least 3/4 full as many shippers will not load if the reefer tank is below that amount. As for pre-booking loads, you will soon learn that with reefer you have to be a bit more flexible as wait times Will rarely be on time. I tended to start looking once I was loaded and could judge my actual times of availabilty. But it works it just takes a bit of time to get that experiance. So glad for you.

Congrats on the trailer!! Just a quick FYI note for you since you’ve never pulled or used one before. IF you run the reefer to a 1/4 tank of fuel OR below, and the reefer is running, TURN THE REEFER OFF BEFORE YOU TOP OFF THE REEFER TANK!! Reason - because the tank is small, the reefer WILL suck air into the system while fueling and the reefer is on and it WILL shut off. It’s somewhat of a pain to get restarted if that happens but it can be done by the driver if they know what to do. As long as you’re over a 1/4 tank you should be fine with it staying on. So, hope this helps and hope you see this before you get into that situation. Also, like others have said, you’re wait times are going to be long for loading and/or unloading with a reefer. Lol. Good luck. 👍🏾😎

Its making interesting viewing, watching your adventure and compairing it with mine. I have gone full circle now, I started off leasing a semi from a major carrier and working for them. After about 18 monthes I decided that the reward did not reflect the cost. Or the way they treated the Driver. So I got my Own Authority, purchased a used semi and Reefer and went to work. I enjoyed the challenge, but did not enjoy the Bull S**t, and stress dealing with crooked brokers. So after 3 years I sold the Trailor and semi. And looked at my options. Well I decided to lease on to the Big Blue Star, On dry van. Bought another Semi ( Used 2017 Peterbilt low milage ) and am now as happy as I have ever been. Less stress, less outgoings, good back up, and big help with the fuel costs. And other benefits. It does not suit everbody but I personally like the set up over here. But I am watching your journey and I really do wish you all the best of luck.

The reason that California to out of State pays more is that 10-99ers can't pick up the loads - AB5. You've got to start playing the system. California to California pay is always crap. You've got a $1.75 per mile nut, you have to start thinking out of the box.

I'm looking at a similar setup. Now that you've had a chance to lay down some miles. My question is. How many miles a week do you average? And how much per mile does your setup cost. I know the 2nd question can be variable, but average? The reason I ask is, because anytime you borrow. That has to be a part of the evaluation of whether to borrow for what you really want. Or buy what you can afford till what you can afford is better. My dilemma. Thanks
@Velox182 жыл бұрын
