Randy, admire what you are doing for your family home. I tried to do the same for my great grandparents home nearly forty years ago, but made one mistake. The home was similar in age to yours and it still had the original knob and tube wiring. I scheduled the rewiring too late in the project, and one night the knob and tube wiring shorted out and burned the house to the ground -- just a week before the electrician was scheduled to do the rewiring. I learned my lesson and when I had my 1920 bungalow refurbished, the electrician was the first to be called. Please, learn from my mistake, if you don't know whether your house has knob and tube wiring, have an electrician check to determine whether it does.

I believe the opening on sides of the roof is venting for the roof. It important to have a roof vented or your wood sheathing under the shingles will dry out in extreme heat conditions and will fall apart over a short time. If they don't have any venting on the top of the roof

I love this video! Seeing young Randy and daughter in that photo just about brought tears to my eyes. I remember the video you released a lifetime ago with her driving in that parking lot. The intimate moments you share is what makes your channel stand out. To someone that has nothing, or pays a ridiculous about of money for a garbage rental property, this house would be a dream. Its been expensive to make it livable, but I understand why you did it.

This is how you know when you really have a best friend. Most so called friends are what I call, "Good time friends." They are all around when the going is good, but run like the cockroaches they are when hit by the light of the hard times. Mike you are such a good friend and this is not the first time you have been with Randy to help out. I am sure you give him a hard time when the camera is off, but its all with love. I would trade almost anything I have for a true friend like you. Thanks

I think the house looks great from when you first got there. I think cleaning up the sidwalk and walkway along with the fence would be a big improvement. I would get the necessities fixed like the plumbing, electrical, and heating. Eventually I would recommend getting a free estimate and inspection by a general contractor to see what solutions there are for the back porch, flooring, plumbing, interior walls, exterior siding, etc.

We sold my parents house for $5 grand after they passed. It was a 1890 3 bedroom, solid built house, but it needed EVERYTHING gone over really. None of us wanted the project so we sold it. We looked for the right kind of guy that would fix it up right, and found him. He was a union electrician, so the house got a top to bottom rewiring that was top notch. He also did 95% of all the work himself while he lived there, and he made the place beautiful! After 5 years, all he had left to do was replace 2 more windows, and side it to cover up the old "insul-brick", but he sold it for $67.5 and walked away. He had enough he said..lol, and siding it was so expensive. He didn't make a ton, but it was worth it to him and we're all so happy to see that house saved! The new owners immediately started putting the siding on too. So many memories in that house. My parents lived in it for almost 50 years. What you're doing it well worth it, and you'll be so happy to see it done nicely.

This old house is just like the rest of them you need to start from the ground add some support beams and braces and get everything stable and straight and then go back over the entire floor with a half inch of plywood and then put your pretty stuff on top of the plywood carpet or vinyl I would honestly suggest something decent like hardwood I’m not a fan of carpet or tile but maybe if it’s just rental propertyThat would be huge for the inside of your house floors good solid and straight
