Takes me back. I am 68 years old and came across your mower video. I had built a motorcycle out of an old, heavy, one speed bicycle with wide tires when I was 16 years old. I pulled an old weed burner engine out of our scrap pile on the farm and adapted it with belts and pulleys to power the thing. It was a vertical shaft engine but I converted it to horizontal somehow, (a small engine mechanic had told me it couldn't be done). I used a piece of wire to run the throttle and it had no brakes. A piece of flat iron with a pulley and a peg for my foot was used to tighten the belt to engage the rear wheel. Everything came form our scrap pile or was hanging on the walls of our old shop. I didn't buy anything. First time out, I was disappointed. I replaced the drive belt with one that fit the pulley groove better that I had found laying around our old shop. After that I was able to do 30+ mph. Wore out a pair of work boot soles dragging my foot for brakes in the first week. My girl friend was there for part of it and we roasted marsh mallows with a torch for a snack. She is now my wife of 46 years. Only regret is that I didn't even take a picture of it. Hearing you guys laugh as you drove around your altered mower was a great reminder that sometimes the most simple things can be the most fun. Do be careful.

Great video and congrats on 500K guys! That old brake assembly is what we called a, "push me pull you" arrangement. Use some blue Loctite on those collar screws to keep them in place. You can also use red Loctite, but it may require using a torch to heat up the collar to remove the screws. Just put some idlers on the chain to keep it from flopping around.
@grandprismatic6 жыл бұрын
A chain tensioner and chain guard, once a the chain hits a rock you'll either loose teeth on the sprocket and/or throw the chain. Think about adding some sort of front end glide plate/bump that extend in front of the the wheels... too slide of rocks, ruts, tree stumps & roots.... mainly to prevent from stoving in the front end & too protect the front wheels from clipping a tree. Awesome build look froward to seeing to at Busco Beach
