Same bike my son is going to be learning to ride next summer when he turns 16, We have been restoring it for the last 3 years and it runs great. It is kept stock other than the head is ever so slightly shaved, so it probably has an extra half horsepower lol. And I opted to a different ratio sprocket to bring the RPM's down just a little bit. And with my heft I find it didn't lose anything by doing that really. I find I may be in one lower gear in some situations then I would have been before, but otherwise it works out well enough. It sits around 5400 at 60mph now and has no problem keeping up on the freeway. 75mph is very easy for it and this will probably allow the engine to last a little longer until next rebuild.

Had a UK spec Z400B with 6 speed box many years ago and grew very fond of it's sheer useability - think the best I coaxed from it was 103mph on the clock,probably about 95 in real terms...
@AimlessMoto9 ай бұрын
Those 6 speed bikes are a different animal. Better cams, smoother running, and I think about 5-10hp more than the normal KZ400. Bulletproof bikes.

You should paint the tank glossy black to match the rest of the bike, good looking working so far!

I think the blue would have looked cooler. especially f he painted all the gold stuff blue to match

I'm thinking of keeping it red/black/gold like the original, only copying more of a Honda CB360 type of scheme.

Love the bike! But those grips need to go. and i would put something in front of the rear wheel so you dont end up with all the dirt all over the motor and carb. And I would definitely like to see you build something from the other bike, there just isnt enough build like these on youtube.
@AimlessMoto8 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! Love GOT by the way :)... The grips will end up being tossed, they were cheap, and I thought I'd like them... but alas, nope. The other bike WILL be a build! So stay tuned. As for this bike. I still have a TON to do. It actually needs a top-end rebuild as it's smoking a bit... so that will be in the next month or so. That, and painting the tank of course. Thanks for watching!
@TheNowerianRaven8 жыл бұрын
I was actually suprised how recent this build was. when I found it I thought it was posted some time ago, so Im glad there will be more like this coming. There just isnt enough build videos like this on YT at the moment

I've got a few questions. What exactly makes the oil light come on? Mine was not on when I bought my KZ750, but it is now after I changed the oil, I'm assuming its from overfilling? Second, I need some advice. I've replaced spark plugs, points and condensor, ignition coil, rebuilt carburetors, and gapped everything to factory specs, set carbs to what they should be, and the bike will not run right if at all. Any throttle kills it half the time, and the other times I've gotten it to start it misfires something fierce when throttle is applied. There is a video on my channel somewhere of it, I just need an outside opinion on what the hell could possibly be wrong. Thanks.

@stockton3506 жыл бұрын
What kind of pods and jets did you use? I'm fixing up a kz400 myself and the old airbox is missing parts and I'd like to switch to pods.
@AimlessMoto6 жыл бұрын
stockton350 jets were bought from Z1 enterprises, i went 2 sizes up on the main jet... i think stock was 140. The pods were from them as well, but i made spacers out of PVC to ensure the rubber inside the pods wouldnt cover the air ports in the venturi.

Word of advice, you really shouldn't use car oil in a motorcycle, and you absolutely shouldn't use synthetic car oil in a motorcycle. Motorcycle oil lubricates not just the engine, but also the transmission and the clutch. Using automotive oil (esp synthetic) is going to lead to premature trans wear and significantly reduced clutch life.
@AimlessMoto6 жыл бұрын
Ian Loughney Thanks, but SAE non-detergent synthetic is fine to run in old bikes. The only thing you shouldn't run is high-zinc oils like "small engine" formulas. I would also avoid straight dino-oil too, as it will sludge up eventually and synthetic/blended oil tends not to. You're right... detergents in car oil are the problem, so just check the label.
@chrisosterhout50867 жыл бұрын
not that loud...haven't you ever heard a Harley...or a straight piped Norton?
@AimlessMoto7 жыл бұрын
The microphone does not convey exactly how loud this thing is... It's on-par with a straight-piped Thruxton/Bonneville, but WAY higher-pitched.
