A higher voltage does not mean there is more total energy stored in the battery. Watt-hour (Wh) is a unit of energy and, exactly as you say, is what indicates the range to be expected. However, a higher voltage does yield more power from the same amount of current, which is desirable for a high-torque wheel, because: - It takes time for the current to change, so you want to minimise the change needed to access the power - Higher currents increase energy losses as heat - Higher currents need larger and heavier conductors A higher voltage IS more efficient, as there is less wastage, but not to the extent that there would be a noticeable different in range for the same number of Watt-hours of energy. Voltage * Current * Time(Hours) = Energy(Wh)

You know range can be a tricky thing with these wheels even with specs boasting a "134.4v" LiTech Samsung.., whatever battery. Lol. In the grand scheme of things, what does it matter when the range caps somewhere in the mid 70s. But heck, I could be remissed. As always, enjoyed the content, though. 😊

I'm totally happy with the range that I'm getting on the Master. It's what I would expect for any 2400wh wheel. I was only curious whether a 134-volt wheel would be more efficient - it's not as best as I can tell.
@Roskellan
@Roskellan 2 жыл бұрын
Higher voltage isn't going to produce more range. Same batteries configured differently. In fact it might lead to less range, because there is potentially more power and torque available (depending on the motor) and the temptation will be to use it. I think also that any efficiency gain you may get with less resistance losses in the motor, will be lost in higher current per cell discharge on the batteries.

An interesting test would be to do the same ride with this wheel but drive to the top first. Then ride down and back up again. I’ve always heard the wheel is more efficient when the battery is full or higher voltage. So it would be interesting to see the stats are when this ride is done in reverse. When the up hill is the second half of the ride instead of the first. Just have to watch the regen I guess to make sure the wheel doesn’t over charge/cutout. As far as this test goes it seem right in there with my 2400 Wh Monster V3 84V. Although it will still be interesting to see you do your normal range test to 0% if you get a chance. 👍🏼 We can compare it with your old Monster test. Thanks for the videos…

Not bad at all. I was expecting worse esp AR only got 40miles. You can got almost 50miles with 36% batt left after a hefty climb. I know there's regen coming down but it doesn't even up. Goings flats will def net more range. I think the Master mite do the trick of replacing the EXN for me as max I've done so far is 50miles & I can't foresee doing much more. Thanks for the update 👍

40T batteries allow a higher current drain but would reduce the range since their energy density (Wh capacity) is less. However, a street tire with less rolling resistance would help to increase range.

Nice video Marty - thank you! I put together a quick reference that I hope you and your subscribers find useful. --------------- Begode Master Here is some reference info for this wheel / battery configuration: 2400 Wh Li-Ion 21700 size cells Four 33.6v packs (connected in series at control board) for total of 134.4v 100% = 134.4v 50% = 118.4v 0% = 102.4v (3.2v per cell for safety margin) 32v spread between 0% and 100% ----- Quick Reference Chart: 134.4v = 100% charge (4.2v per cell) 118.4v = 50% (3.7v per cell - “nominal” storage charge - best voltage to extend battery life when not used for more than 3 days) 115.1v = 39.6% (115.1-102.4) / 32 = .396 = 39.6% - Note: This formula can be used for any voltage with this wheel / battery combination. Just substitute your voltage in place of the “115.1”. This voltage mentioned in video. 106v = Low power alarm (Begode firmware spec) 105.6v = 10% charge (ideal stopping point - recharging required to avoid alarm and tiltback) 104v = Low power tiltback (Begode firmware spec) 102.4v = 0% (3.2v per cell) minimum as margin to prevent damage - 3.0v/cell is absolute minimum - anything lower will damage cells Voltages often don’t drop in a linear curve so rate of decline may increase as you deplete battery The higher voltage of the Master enables higher RPMs (speed) from a given torque design motor -----

Looking for recommendations. I've never used an electric unicycle but it looks like it would be great for my local paragliding spot. The ride would be 2.5 miles, 700 ft of gain, about 23 degree max slope for about 1/2 a mile on a dirt road. I weigh 210 pounds with all my gear, weather is always around 60F or colder. I want something lightweight and capable of charging up the hill without a problem and can still fit in my paraglider harness (about the size of a medium backpack). Inmotion v8f looks like a good fit but i would appreciate advice from someone experienced.
@ElectricUnicycles
@ElectricUnicycles 2 жыл бұрын
Will you be flying the paraglider with the wheel in your backpack? If that's the case than the V8F would be fine for that distance and weight. Something to also consider is the 84-volt Mten3. A super small with with extreme torque. It could easily cover the distance that you're talking about yet it's smaller than the V8F.

@@ElectricUnicycles I bought the begode mcm5 v2 a few days after asking this. The snow hasn't left the trail yet so i haven't tried the hill yet, but my intent is to fly down with the euc and ride it back up. I liked the mten3 but wasn't sure it would be enough to make it so i went for the mcm5. I've put about 140km on the mcm5 so far, super fun. Hard for me to grasp how demanding 1500ft elevation are on the batteries compared to mostly flat streets. But even after seeing Alienrides and Zen Lee's range test, both around 35-40 miles at slightly higher speeds (25-30 mph) this still feels bad in comparison to the exn. Not sure if this would work for me as an only-wheel. For daily errands, commutes etc. it woukd probably be fine and fun, but on a weekend trip 150 km+ this would probably limit me too much. Wish this was a 3000 Wh wheel. Their tank version seems to heavy imo.

@ElectricUnicycles metric folk here, 1500m it is then 😅 I heard many good things about the nikola+ but I don't really think it is the wheel for me. I'm mostly looking for an allrounder, but knowing me, range will be the driving factor long term. Since there are no good beginner wheels for a minor investment and used wheels are impossible to find in the EU/locally, I'm contemplating going all out and directly buy a capable wheel. I'd have loved a V10+ as first wheel, but at this price tag, I'd rather invest a few hundred more and get a vehicle that really satisfies my needs. Also, as much as I dislike begode for their quality (control) issues. I must say they did a great job on the master. A 2nd/3rd gen of this wheel with some modification might be great.

If you could choose between Begode Master, Hero or KS S 22, which one suspension wheel is the best for you ?
@ElectricUnicycles
@ElectricUnicycles 2 жыл бұрын
This is a really difficult choice. I own all three wheels. The Hero may be the best choice for being tough and survivable in lots of low torque situations. But it's not a fast wheel and the range is limited. The S22 feels very refined and has a beautiful ride. The suspension is firmer than the Master but still very nice. I don't yet know how the range compares to the Master but it'll probably be slightly less. The Master feels more raw and simpler than the S22. It's noticeably more powerful than any other wheel ever made. Although the S22 is capable of high speeds it takes more user input (lean) to achieve those speeds. So if you're looking for an awe inspiring level of power (acceleration and speed) then the Master is your wheel. Otherwise you may prefer the S22. Difficult choices.

@@ElectricUnicycles thanks for taking the time to respond, I appreciate. I like to ride smooth with the best confort. ( I miss your amazing lanes in CA!) I don’t exceed 20mph, cause I think it’s dangerous, and of course I can have more range. I own a S18, I plan to make a Compostelle trip (1200 km). I thought to buy the S22, but every single day, I see problem with this wheel , a shame for a engine that cost almost $4000 . I’d like to ride and reach 100km on a single charge , maybe the Hero could deal with.
@ElectricUnicycles
@ElectricUnicycles 2 жыл бұрын
@@DJChrismaz Based on what you've written I think the Master would be the ideal suspension wheel. It has the softest/smoothest suspension and the biggest battery. And just because it can go very fast doesn't mean that you have to. I mostly ride between 28 and 40kph. Every once in awhile I'll go faster. The latest release of the Master is supposed to have more parallel battery cells so it'll be safer if one of the batteries fails.

Not sure if going for range at 17 mpr is what 134 volts was intended for. In fact, I believe those volts may have equipped the Master with a different set of "non special" abilities. Abilities, in which somehow, no other wheel in the world possess right now. Then again possibly it really is just an average wheel. You know what I mean? Average, like in the way it supplies High Torque plus Record Breaking Top Speeds. So, therefor maybe you're right about the Master not being anything special, or.......maybe your chinstrap is on too tight.
