I will try the saddle thing and get tougher on the flexing. I would like to do it right and appreciate all of the feedback you have given me. Unfortunately in the round pen I don't have anyone who can be the second person on the ground. I will take a few days and do the groundwork again before getting on "with the saddle" again. Again thanks for the feedback I always look forward to it.

She's a very good natured horse.

@KKKrispyKreme Great. Make sure the person on the ground is in sync with the person in the saddle. This method is easy for the horse to understand because they are familiar with the the commands and actually distracts it from something on it's back. Remember a horse can only think of 1 thing at a time, this concept can come in handy. Be safe, U can do it.

I loved his jump at 0:43. He's like Oh lord! LOL Cute horse

Wow, nothing like jumping in with both feet! Both breeds are hot horses and require a soft but firm hand. They are very intelligent and quick to learn. I would suggest you find a professional trainer to help you. These horses could do more than kick your butt. I admire your gumpsumtion. Thank you for your comments.

I put a hackamore on Mister today and decided to get on w/o a saddle and maybe the whole time that was the problem. I had to use a bucket and follow him around a bit, but after I got on I just sat and let him look at me on both sides and rubbed him and after he started licking his lips I slowly got off. I did not want to push my luck.

I want to use techniques like this to restart my old problem horse, but it will probably take a lot of work. How long could I do work like this in a round pen before it could become bad for his joints?

I got a new draft-cross gelding that was once a dressage horse but hasn't been ridden in over a year. He's calm and gentle and I've gone through a lot of ground training and I feel that the two of us have started a bond. Your videos have helped me soooo much. Next weekend I'm planning on trying him with a saddle and riding him for the first time. This video makes me feel more prepared. Also, since he was previously an English horse, do you have any tips on getting him accustomed to Western...

You are awesome! Thank you for the videos!

@KKKrispyKreme Most of the horses I have interviewed have very little fashion sense. It doesn't matter what type of saddle they are wearing. What matters is the cues and consistency of the commands. The biggest difference to the horse between english and western saddles will be the back strap. Always be safe. Put the western saddle on him do your groundwork. When your done hang him on a patience pole and let him wear it for the rest of the day. In no time he'll think its only natural to wear it.

@jenmisterpaz ... until he thinks it's part of him. Put a old saddle on him and turn him out for the day or half a day anyhow. As far as flexing, he needs to be feather light on the ground because when you get on his back he will stiffen up dramatically. You'll need to work thru that of course and it won't take long (minutes) but if he's not light to begin with your job will be harder in the saddle. The flexing is your safety cord in the saddle.

alot of work for her in one day!
@CustomCommissionsMS9 жыл бұрын
I think the issue with flexing came from not having enough rein. Letting them go more loose will make her feel less restricted as well as some rubs in between, and a quicker release. I think the slow release is likely why she refused to swing her head around and you had to bop her in the nose to get it. In my opinion, it's important to let their head stretch out and relax on the first ride - they will give a million other signs if they are wanting to buck or bolt.

@KKKrispyKreme ....Western-style riding? I want to eventually get him to just be a trail horse and possibly start in on reigning. My horse is also more of a sensitive horse. He hasn't had a whole lot of human contact in over a year but he's coming along beautifully. P.S. I LOVE your videos. Fancy is such an extraordinary horse. It's incredible what you've done for her.

Well today did not go so well with Mister. He still panics when I put weight in the stirrup. I have to pull pretty hard to get him to start flexing his neck. I had his neck flexed and when I put weight in the stirrup he acted like he was gonna nip me. He doesn't at all seem comfortable with me acting like I am going to mount. Now I feel nervous and he senses it. HELP.

This was crazy! Good job! How long was this first riding session total? All of the 'first ride' videos I've seen usually only last a few minutes, and only at a walk. Amazing work :)
@SecondChanceEquine10 жыл бұрын
The whole session took about 30 minutes.

was this video the first time she had been in that arena with fans????
@SecondChanceEquine13 жыл бұрын
@jenmisterpaz The fact that you had to pull hard on him to flex tells me that he is not ready. the nip is him letting you know he's not good with this yet. The first time I mount the colt needs to be in the ideal state of mind which happens when they are dripping in sweat from ground work. The more he sweats the better he gets. He is more willing to accept new ideas, like a rider. Nipping is also a sign of disrespect. You may need to be tougher with him. Put the saddle on and keep it on until...

This is Clinton's method and yes it works just like you see with Fancy.

Do you think it's possible to do this without bucking with any horse? I've done this with a horse before (your videos helped a lot, thank you for that), and she never bucked. I might be getting a new, unbroken horse soon, and people are telling me that I was just lucky that the other horse has such a great character and that she didn't buck because of that. That sure might have helped a lot, but I believe that I can do it again with the right horse, if we're putting lots of work, respect and trust in the training again before the saddle comes on..

She was too young to have a rider on her back, let alone a grown man who weighs probably around 190-200 pounds.. this is so wrong, and makes me so mad. Horses should'nt be broken in when they are this young
@asportableskatesharpening42076 жыл бұрын
Way to much flooding of pressure, no chance to think about what’s happening. Way too much for a first ride. If I were here, I would make your second ride one to remember. I just prefer a softer more drawn out approach. What you hit done in 10 min would have been 3 hrs for me over 2-3 days.

I'm sure that plastic bag was really hurting her NOT.!!!! Horses do a lot worse to each other. A plastic bag??? Come on. It's a bag not a weapon..lmbo Think about it. If I hit you with a plastic bag would it hurt. I don't think so.
