Hello, One of the test drive reviewers said in his video about this bike that the engine was overheating, which is why the fault light came on on a gravel road riding. Could this be because of the thin oil that the factory uses during the break-in period or is this overheating a general feature of the engine? Do you know any thing about this raised as a problem or was is only one off thing happened to that reviewer? Thank you.

After a year and 11k kms of mostly Andean Mountain Gravel Roads, Amazon Basin and Coastal lowlands... and mountain twisties with my V85TT I can assure you it is a great balance of Technology, incredible ergonomics for driver and pillion as well. The 19" front wheel and low center of gravity allow it to outperform many big name (and pricetag) bikes through mountain twisties. Both 170mm suspensions are more than enough for aggressive fire road, gravel roads and such... Shaft drive is a huge plus... it's not "interesting" and the TFT display although small is crisp. The 480km+ Fuel range is outstanding and with 5 ride Modes... the safety and fun factor combines nicely. Please feel free to ask anything you'd like regarding this bike Ian. I belong to a group of over 30 "Guzzistis" most have 2021 V85TT's and more than a few have traveled 2up for over 23k kms to Argentina and back over a 2-3 month period and changed nothing but brake pads and a rear tire.

@@aaronis31337 The only issue (definitely design flaw in my opinion) I have had is that when Off Roading you can easily Bump, Slam or Scrape the Kickstand Sensor on a rock and the Engine dies and unless you know which wires to Splice and Tie.... you are in trouble. I ride with many V85TT owners and truly it´s a brotherhood... some have had that same issue and Not a single one has had mechanical issues beyond repairs after an off road fall, etc.. One Example I´d like to share was the ANDES RIDER CHALLENGE I ran with 8 other V85TT owners.... 600 Kms Road Book Off Road and On... from 05h00 to 19h30... Crossing Rivers on Canoes and plenty of Cold Andes Mountain Trails, to Amazon Lowlands (95% Humidity and 95degress) - and lets just say it wasn´t Team Guzzi that had fallen Soldiers....

I've had my V85tt (travel) for almost a year, it now has 12000km on the odometer. 100% reliable and just as beautiful as it came from the showroom. Driven a lot of BMW s in the past. The Guzzi quality level is at least as good as the BMW motorcycles. Many high-quality materials are used. The BMW boxer motorcycles are often more luxurious (electronics, etc.) but also a lot more expensive. I hope Big Rock Moto can test it more extensively soon. The V85tt gives me great satisfaction precisely because you feel that you are sitting on a motorcycle. And it's a beautiful design! that makes me smile every time I ride it.

I used to own the previous version of this bike with the tubed tyres, really awesome bike and so nice having a shaft drive. I preferred the original McDonalds paint option, which is the colour scheme I had. A really quirky looking bike, but it works, it looks great. I traded it in for the Aprilia Tuareg 660, which suits my use better as I trail ride with it quite a bit. Both the Moto Guzzi V85TT and the Aprilia Tuareg 660 were designed by the same person!

My experience with Guzzi in General (Have had 7 Guzzies, but not the new engine), very good steering, nice engine characteristic, great sound, very durable engines, great brakes, low fuel use, my (tuned, dual spark) Quota 1000 did 24 km on 1 liter petrol. If I still would ride solobikes it would be a Guzzi. I alway saw it as the european HD but then better build, better brakes, no magnet on a rope behind the bike needed to catch lost parts :-)

@@Dave-sw2dm I have had a XS650 (or 600, it is to long ago) hardtail. It was beautiful until I started riding it. Still have a 1954 Triumph 5T speedtwin that I was completely rebuilding. I bought it totally dismantled. It was pulled apart to the last bolt, even the engine, in 1966. But due to my physical problems it came to a halt 10 years ago. It is technical 95% ready, I totally rebuild the engine to new specs. paint etc is all still the original, but the motivation is gone also after that XS experience because this will not be much more comfortable. Guzzis have always been unique. They are very different to the other Italian bikes. Always have been, always will. They prioritise torque over bhp. And longevity and ease of maintenance over the latest tech. Not uncommon to see motors with 200,000 miles on a bottom end. They still like 2V motors with pushrods. They are the antithesis of Ducatis. They like short shifting over revving the tits off them. The older the better. We love them dearly.

I own a 2021 v85tt basic black. I'd like to point out that the suspension is adjustable both front and back. 3 clicks up on the rear preload made a positive difference in the handling for me. Have not touched the damping yet. Overall I have to say that this bike excels as any any road, gravel to highway, tourer. Not the best choice for gnarly trails, but eats up rough roads with comfort.

I can safely say, after two Moto Guzzis sitting in my driveway, that I am a true Guzzi guy. These things are so simple and easy to maintain. Great acceleration, awesome seat, just a good’ol pal. I now have around 3000km on the clock for the V85TT, closing in on 10 000km on my V7 Stone, and these things just keep on going. I actually learned to love their little quirks, aka these clunky shifts. Very easy to ride. Plus, I struggle finding Chinese parts on these, which is a great geo-political plus to me. I can’t recommend enough.

When are you going to get a V85tt as a long term test bike ? , when you look at the specs it’s actually closer to the Suzuki VStrom 650 XT - like you tested some time back . Power figures are similar ( if you allow the shaft drive power loss ) suspension travel is similar- 10mm less on the Strom . Fuel range similar, brakes obviously better on the V85, seat height similar.

Look forward to your longer term review with The bike. I’ve got about 10,000 kms on my v85tt, trouble free. Very comfortable bike, loves long highway trips, can actually do decent off road too! Yes you will be going a little slower than the KTM and tenere guys but you will make it to where they’re going too, the shorter wheelbase does actually help off road, note these air cooled bikes don’t like hot weather city traffic, they tend to ping a bit as they come fuelled very lean from the factory. For anyone looking to buy one, remove the cat saves 10 lbs and keeps your boots from melting… there is ecu re-maps available out there if you decide to do such a thing. Cheers!

I'm so glad you got the opportunity to do a quick ride review of this bike. It's been at the top of my list as a street bike to replace my current street bike, a 2006 Triumph Scrambler. I'd use it for exactly the type of riding you did in the video, pavement and a bit of dirt and gravel roads, but no true off-roading. It would spend 90%-100% of its life on pavement. I have a 100-mile round trip commute and really like the idea of simple maintenance. It's got everything I'd want if I were to design a bike for my usage: shaft drive, tubeless spoked rims, air-cooled, cruise control, screw and lock-nut valve lash adjustment, and with the heads sticking out to make access that much easier. I can't think of any other bike that has all those features, so that leaves the Moto Guzzi alone on my list without having to compromise any of the features I like. I hope Piaggio lets you take one as a long-term test bike.

13500 miles (all on road) with no problems at all. It's my first bike so driving is careful but indicate MPG is 71 per UK Gallon. As you mention in the video it's cheap to service with the transverse V configuration giving easy access. 300 mile days remain comfortable to the end (i am 6ft tall). i have the standard smaller windscreen - the wind hits my chest but there is no buffetting to my head. On paper it looks under powered but the torque means real world road riding is ok. At 229 kg kerb weight it's not light as such, but alot less than a GS or other top bracket adventure bikes. So much more than a good starter bike.

I am now thinking that when evaluating these ADV bikes it would be good to put them on a scale. A scale that would rate them by Street verses Dirt usage. Like this Guzzi might be 80 / 20. 20 being Dirt capability over all. 80 being street capability. Maybe the GS1250 would be 70 / 30 and the KTM 890 or 690 would be 50 / 50 or whatever. That way the person watching would have some reference point when watching these videos. Tires would not be a part of the evaluation since it would be easy to swap tires for a higher dirt or street biased score. If the bike had a 21” / 19” or 17” front tire, that would impact the rating. I think you could build a table for such a rating system. Other physical parameters could also effect the score, such as, 17” or 18” rear wheel size. Fuel tank shape and size, seat height, ABS controls, traction controls, Modes, lighting, crash protection, skid plate design, throttle response in off road mode, parts durability to limit damage. I am sure other characteristics could factor in as well.

Ian how does the engine on the V85 compare to the Vstrom 650. Your comments on torque, power, vibrations at highway speed, and character would be greatly appreciated. Can't decide which to buy. Love your reviews.

Just tested the brand new one. Man, these vibrations !!! This bike has the Parkinson disease. Such vibrations is a no go to me for a 850cc meant to long travels. I was going at 90km/h on the 3rd gear, engine breaker led activated. I was really disappointed because I love the design so much. Definitively not my next bike.

Excellent review as usual. Your one of the best if not the best at reviewing adventure bikes. I'm thankful for the objective info and even more so for the subjective opinions based on what you like in a bike as you probably have more useful experience with other ad-bikes in this catigory than any of the others. I an old motorcycle guy loves to same motorcycles built from many Co's and this and the V7 are my favorite Guzzi's, so this one should be my 1st Guzzi. Retro but 90% effective should work for me as the design is sweet.

Before you buy a MG, check into the cost of parts and services. They may not be what you think.
@BunnyandBman2 жыл бұрын
What are you trying to say ? ... lol service cost is set by your dealer does not matter if its Kawasaki or Guzzi. Concerning parts, I had a mishap with mine and replacing a few bits and pieces, cost-wise all reasonable. For example, I have to replace the whole front frame that holds the lights, cluster, and windshield, it's 200 bucks, not a big deal.
@chadkline42682 жыл бұрын
@@BunnyandBman in some cases, alternative mfr prices may be reasonable, but in other cases, they are very expensive. I do not know the difference in quality. I like MGs, and BMWs, and horizontal opposed engines, but people are often surprised at how much they can cost to maintain and repair. I am happy that you are happy with your MG. Maybe it depends on whether you use original parts or not, or whether your dealer does. Eg, a handle bar can be found for a V85 TT for $100, but a dealer may only use original parts, and that makes a handlebar over $300. It is easy to end up with a charge of many 1000s of dollars for seemingly small problems.

Thanks that was fun. Your impressions surprised me. I thought it would be much less sporty.

As usual, I like your honest reviews pretty much. No matter if they are just short test rides or deeper going long distance tests 👍 Any chance for a deep review on the Aprilia Tuareg 660 and how to lift it up?? Peter from Austria

Solutions. Soft suspension ? Adjust clickers to firm up 🤔☝️ Wind buffering a problem ? Drive a car 🥸🙈

Number two doesn't sounds like a sensible solution. Plenty of bikes have decent aeros that don't cause terrible wind buffeting. Others in some instances can so be bad that rider can barely see or has a headache after such a short time. My old F650 Dakar with the original rally inspired screen was more like the latter. Couldn't get rid of screen fast enough. My Aprillia Falco, and ZXR750 were great even at triple digit speeds.

Great content Ian, how does it compare to the Tuareg 660 ?
@luispnrf2 жыл бұрын
Well, the dashboard is the same. in my opinion the Moto Guzzi is a great travel bike that will go everywhere on a slower pace, the Aprilia is almost a dual sport bike that also works as a travel bike just like the Yahama Ténéré 700. It's great to have choices.

Hmmm, so it's true they have an issue with neutral. Good to be sure about that.
@matthieudangerous2 жыл бұрын
Yup I have to click mine twice down into first. You can feel a little click on the second push down, then I feather it into neutral.

Never had a problem with v85 gearbox. Guzzis tend to have a problem when new and problems disappear with milage. We had a problem being stuck in 1st gear on V7 when cold but not anymore.
@ciocanelwar2 жыл бұрын
@@mariuszuk79 never did hear about oth6 problems, just this one with the fake neutral. I am pretty unlucky with this sort of stuff, I have a VStrom 650, no people I know that own one had issues with it... I have an issues with the front brakes, when it's raining the break holds great and when it's hot not so much. Checked for pores but there is no break fluid leaking. Also had a recal on the stator that I found out about from another garage, not from the dealer... I believe this was the issue for my light switch melting on the inside. Also, now it's stalling in second. So I am looking to fix it up and selling it, replacing it with a second hand F800gs, new Moto Guzzi or tiger and or SH Honda Africa Twin.

Buy the dealership with these bikes. A good dealer will prep it correctly and offer wonderful service after the sell, and your Guzzi ownership experience will be great. A bad dealer can turn it all into a nightmare.
