The first falls you stopped at is called "Devil's Gap" or "Devil's Door". In April, with high water up river and low water in Georgian Bay, I've seen the drop be as much as 8 feet! The narrow channel you went up and stopped is "The Back Channel" of The Crooked Rapids". It's supposed to be UP ONLY. You're best to go up The Back Channel at planing speed then articulating the left corner of the Crooked Rapids is easier. Coming down the Crookeds you turn a bit left where you stopped and go through "The Jump". The longer rapids on your way back to Georgian Bay is The Big Jameson. In the Spring there's as 5-8 ft rooster tail. Stay right of it going up and away from the rock wall in case of a spill... The right side will spit you out but the wall side will take you under, even with a life jacket on. I used to work at the now-defunct Bad River Lodge where all the buildings are near the mouth of the Bad River, closer to Georgian Bay. We used to troll for pickerel along the the entire channel from the lodge to the Jameson between 7:00 PM and 10 or 11:00PM in August. The Bay Pickerel come in at night to feed. 7" Original Floating Silver Rapala - remove the middle treble hook and use a rubber net only.

Nice one Mark. Those first set of rapids were Dalle rapids. I was there last year. I shot about the same drone footage. Was planning a trip to the French as well but want to get further back as you did last summer. I think I might have to wait till late July or even August until water levels subside, Yukon Bob

Thanks so much Bob! Ah nice they were amazing to see. Yes I remember that video was what made me want to go up and give them a look. Yes was not able to make it as far back with the water being down this much and while they are still dumping from Nipissing. I think you are right an August trip might work to get further back in from the bay. Great video on Toronto this week by the way. Cheers!

FYI, that chimney you found, I'm pretty sure it's a remnant of the Hudson Bay Company trading posts. There is actually another one I know of inside the French, near Dokis. My dad researched the history of it, pretty interesting. My wife actually made a painting for a family member of the Dokis one since it was a special spot for them. Cool find!

Oh wow thank you so much for that info I really appreciate that. Of really is there it would be so cool to see that one as well. That is so cool that she made a painting of it that must have been so special to them to receive it. Can it be seen from the water as I might be up that way later in the summer? Thanks for the info so cool all the best Cheers!

@MarkForrestAdventures maps.app.goo.gl/2jdu3re9M72WFYrw6 here. There's also another one east of Garden Village on the north shore of Lake Nipissing, but I'd have to check with my dad on the exact location. I haven't been to that one.

@@MarkForrestAdventures I am Luc father. I am very knowledgeable of lake Nipissing upper Rivière des Français, (French River), West Arm and West Bay as I guide for friends with my Honda PWC almost weekly lake Nipissing branches and sometimes Lake Temagami, Goergian Bay near the Spanish reserve not far from Manitou Island and Kipawa lake on the Québec side. On lake Nipissing there are 2 chimneys from trading post that were operated by chief Michel l'Aigle Dokis (Mike Eagle Dokis) from 1850 to 1906 at his death. One chimney is situated on Dokis point in front of Cockburn Island on the reserve near Garden Village close to the town of Sturgeon Falls. The other chimney is situated on an island in front of Chaudière lodge not far from the Dokis reserve on the upper French. He also operated 2 traded trading post near the town of Temagami. There are 3 chimneys on the lower Rivière des Français that were operated by HBC (Hudson Bay Company). Michel L'Aigle Dokis was a major competition to The HBC and was a big reason of the demise of the HBC in this region. Michel was the son of a native women and a French Voyageur. He learned how to read and write in french from his father way before the advent of schools as the railway went through the area only in 1883. In the Ottawa archives there are receipts of him in 1860 written in French and also receipts with drawings for those that did not know I to read. On the upper French there is also good quality pictographs from natives on Kennedy island near the mouth of the Rivière des Français. The pictographs are about 7 feet above water levels facing North West which means they resisted the sun fading. When they built the 2 Chaudière dam in 1916 the lake level went up 7 feet. Which means the pictographs were draw about 14 feet above water levels in those days. A lot of lake Nipissing was a swamp before 1916 such as the region of the town of Lavigne and the bay of Cache Bay. . If you are ever interested I will guide you on a trip on part of lake Nipissing and the upper French river free of charge of course. Another interesting trip as beautiful in my opinion is the West arm of lake Nipissing but with less recorded history. We would leave from my camp on the Rivière Veuve ( Veuve River) near the Town of Cache Bay with access to Lake Nipissing within 5 minutes. My cruising speed is between 35 and 40 miles per hour as I like to enjoy the scenery, save on gas and if I ever hit a rock it is not as dangerous. Love your videos which are very time consuming on a trip.

Well done, Mark! I really enjoyed this episode, it might be my favorite of your collection. The bears, oh my--just wow!!! The selfie stick from the cooler shot going through the slalom course was a really cool POV. And, the drone shots were sublime. Thanks for taking us along and for all the time you put into capture, edit, and publish. I was smiling watching you go through those rapids and thought he's cray-cray!! Tough gear week on my channel. My DJI Air 3 drone went into the river and sank like a rock...sigh...I had the insurance and paid a co-pay. I got the entire thing on video--unreal. But, now I'm a little apprehensive and I'm exploring some sort of fail-safe or recovery for the drone.. How did you recover your's when it splashed? Mine sunk like a stone straight down to Davy Jones' locker -- no way to get it from 70-feet down. Also, my railblaza mount on my GPS housing the gray "slide lock" broke and I lost it. Fortunately, the GoPro wasn't inserted when I did! On the other hand, had two nice rides and my SeaDoo ran buttery smooth. As always, beautful work and thanks for the inspiration. Safe travels on your work trip. Looking forward to the next episode. Keep up the brilliant work. Cheers!

Thank you so much Brian! ah that is nice to hear I was really happy how it came out but wait till next week some crazy stuff goes down! The bears art first I thought it was just a log floating in the water until I got closer and was surprised to see the bare and the 2 cubs so amazing to see out in the wild. ok good I am really liking that new camera angle from the back so happy to hear you think it works as well. Hey that why I do it to try and give you guys what its like to come for a ride with me even in the rapids lol OH NO that sucks so sorry to hear that but good they covered the cost. hey but you got it on video so not a full loss that is called good content lol I will tell you there is no good fail safe. You just have to accept that if you are going to fly over water you are willing to toss that money in the water as well LOL I am on my 4th drone in 6 seasons so you just have to smile and get the best shots out of it you can. While also not playing it to safe or else the footage is just boring to watch so it is a fine line. I budget a drone every 2 year and hope I make it LOL I have only got one iron back from the water but 2 times and that was all due to luck and shallow water. The one I lost this spring was in fast deep water it was gone the second it hit the water. Yes mounts can be an issue and again you just hope they hold as they do take a lot of beating from the waves and sun. Well there you go and saw you put a few videos out this week so will have to check them out. Little tip, I would start to space them out just to allow for them to get viewed. if you put them out too fast they just get passed over and pushed down the viewing list. One a week with maybe a short in-between to remind people about the video works best and then allows you to build up a catalog to keep you having videos later in the season. Most of my videos are 2 to 3 weeks old from when I post them in really time so come the fall and winter I still have videos to post. Hope that helps. All the best and be safe out on the water looking forward to more of your adventures Cheers!

Dude, that wasn’t 5 finger rapids that was Devil’s Door. Bay is low & River is high. Just wonder if you had authorization to fly the drone since you were in a provincial park? Great drone shots though of the Bad River. You probably went right by our place, only the locals know the good fishing spots! :)
@MarkForrestAdventures
@MarkForrestAdventures 18 күн бұрын
Oh yes I know that's Devils Door was more trying to say I want to get to 5 fingers but you are right not quite them. Yes it sure was but very cool to see how different the river can be at any given time. You do not need authorization to fly in a Provincial park. You do need it to fly in a Nation Park and it is not easy to get so I just don't fly my drone in National Parks or national sites like the Locks on the Trent Severn Water Way. Thank you so much I appreciate that it is a fun river to run. Oh nice then you have an amazing area you get to enjoy! LOL I am seeing that feel free to send some hints my way. All the best thanks again for watching the video and reaching out Cheers!

@@MarkForrestAdventures FYI, from Ontario Parks website "A Remotely Piloted Aircraft System, more commonly referred to as a drone, is an aircraft. Aircraft (including drones) cannot be taken into or operated in a provincial park without authorization from the park superintendent. " Watch out for the wardens- they do patrol that area.
@MarkForrestAdventures
@MarkForrestAdventures 15 күн бұрын
Thanks for that info good to know. I have the drone that is under the 249 G limit so it falls under a mini drone and not a regular drone. But this got me to call around and check with the parks and yes some do not let you at all like Killbear and Algonquin but some do when it is the one that is under the 250 g limit. So as always I try to be nothing but respectful and use it as little as possible not to bother people. Good tip about the Wardens thanks! Any other cool places in the area I should check out next time?

hey love your content! Looking forward to do some seadoo camping, but honnestly im wondering where/how easy is to find some spot to camp. Im in the region of QC and dont mind doing less than 2h hours of driving to find a spot to go in the water and starting from there but do you have any advice, tips or things that you know ?

@MarkForrestAdventures 23 сағат бұрын
Ah thank you so much! Nice it is so fun to go out and camp from the SeaDoo. It does take a bit more time to look at finding a good spot. I spend a lot of time on google maps and then in Ont we have a website that can show us crown land that you can camp on. Also there is an App that I am just trying out for the iphone called BRMB Maps that can show you a lot of info for this. Hope this gets you started. If you have any other questions just let me know.
