Re the riv nut tooling.. Dont need it for a 1 off job. For insertion just use a long bolt with nut and washer up the shaft of the bolt, fit bolt into nutcert, insert in hole and by holding the bolt and tightening the nut it will compress the nutcert. Your welcome.

I would have gobbered up some JBWeld on that radiator leak (or maybe found a tiny screw, and gobbered it up with jbweld), and called it good enough for now... Jumping spiders are kinda fun, I think that they like to play. Welding in some captive nuts/bolts might make that hood job a lot easier.
@ratrodsafrica

Accessibility for welding on the inside is zero. But a patch plate with nut from outside could work.. I will probably go the JBWeld route. Low budget...😅

Man! She sounds pretty mean for a 4 banger. I like it. Don’t know if I could deal with that loud fuel pump. Wow, that thing is loud. As for the radiator, put some JB Weld on that tiny hole. Back when I was a young lad, the water pump on my truck broke. The fan wiped out one of the cores. I pulled the core loose from the ends and JB Weld-ed the holes on each side, and it held up for a couple of months. Long enough to save up for another radiator. Notice I didn’t say new. But I think the startup was a win. Hell, I barely run, and I leak, so it did better than me. 😂😂😂 Great job my friend. 👍🏻👍🏻!!!!

This style Chevy truck body ran between the years 1947 to 1955, they changed models in 47 this shape began in late 47 and the 55salso changed, this style stopped in early 55..the 47s and 48s were identical the 50s had small numbers below the Chevrolet nameplate on the side of the hood for the pickup the numbers were 3100, the 51s dropped the small numbers but added vent windows in the doors, the 52s added push button door handles rather than the pull downs, the 53s took the Chevrolet nameplate from the sides of the hood and added 3100 in bolder numbers, the 54s changed to a one piece windshield, the new T shaped grill and the side rails of the bed that were on 45 degree angle they just flattened.The 55s changed the side hood nameplate from the bold 3100 to a plastic emblem with 3100 written in a small oval with chevrolet written underneath it..these didn't hold up well and youdon't see them much today.. the early 55s also had an open driveshaft.. These are the changes in the chevrolet trucks from the late 47 models to the early 55s.. thought you may want to know..I was a teenager then and I lived and breathed these trucks..My dad bought a new 52 model for $1640 US..Paul from Ohio..

Hey Diff, it's always something!:) When I first fired my 351M after the rebuild I found the machine shop didn't replace the tiny ( 1/2" ) plugs in the end of the heads. The RH side was easy because it faced the front but the LH side is about 3" off the firewall. I wasn't about to pull the engine of the head so I created tools to remove and then press in the new one. Very much frustration that they hadn't been replaced after $1700 worth of machine work. Then I found the reman water pump was leaking out the weep hole. So after assembly and paint I had to take the pump off and get a "new" reman. The second one works better but now my nice paint job looks less nice. It runs great so I guess I'll get over it!:) Thanks Brother!

Almost there mate. Good work. An idea for you, weld the nuts on the inside of the firewall for the bonnet brace. That way you only need one pair of hands when the glass goes in. I reckon front indicators to match the rear would look good too. I have watched this build from the start, you've come so far with it mate. The way the new part of the bonnet has patina'd into the same look as the old section is awesome. Well done.

Can you use rivnut or just weld a nut to the fire wall for the hood support bolts? I would try to solder that rad pinhole or use a pop rivet.👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Dont have rivnuts and access for welding in there is frigging impossible...but not something that will be removed often. Soldering aluminum is a tricky business! We'll see.

Uncle, great job! Can’t you fuse TIG that pipe of the radiator with out using filler stick? Maybe save some bucks in the process, or keep as a spare Rad

Wow started right up ! I love what you've done with what you had around. That's the way I've always had to build anything maybe working on a farm or not having lots of money is why I did it. As for the radiator use JB weld or an epoxy to repair it. Then you'll be on the road ! Great video !

Thanks! The origins of rat rod building was low budget, using what can be found. These days its become high dollar... You reading my mind about the epoxy!😅

Do you have JBweld over there? It's a two part epoxy putty. I would have pushed some on the hole and fire it up.
