So I started bookkeeping for a family business and I now I have friends that want me to keep their books. The only experience I have is what I self-taught at the family business using QBO. So, I only know what it looks like for my family business, which includes invoicing and paying bills. I don’t know what it looks like for other potential businesses or how to use QBO for another client.

Why do all bookkeeping videos avoid explaining the actual duties of a bookkeeper and concentrate on running a bookkeeping business? Dont' get me wrong, I will be able to appreciate these videos if I ever learn what exactly what a bookkeeper does and decide to make it a career. But first I need to learn bookkeeping.

I want to get into freelance bookkeeping so that I can work from home. However, when I search the internet for the average salary of freelance bookkeepers specifically I always see a figure around $20/hr. I thought it was interesting and maybe why they came up with $20.00: "Temporary contract, piece-work and self-employed workers are not included. Employees working less than 30 hours per week for one employer are not included. If an employee works for multiple employers, full-time earnings from only one employer are considered when analyzing trends in compensation." It sounds like they are only tracking W-2 full-time employees. Obviously, if you are a "hired gun" 1099, you will charge more. $20.00/hr is for a full-time employee and doesn't cover benefits. Also from their website: "Total cash compensation does not include retirement plan contributions from employers, health insurance, company car privileges, travel allowances, or other non-cash benefits. It also does not include equity (stock) compensation.

Hi! i have a question as i mentioned before i am currently at HT at a national bank but looking to transition to book keeping. i have a BA in mamgement with a concentration in finance and did take 3 course in accounting while in college. Before starting my business i wanted to know how i could get real world experience.
