Lol, yeah, i used to live in Oregon and i would typically start doing light lawn work there around Feb 10 every year...right now there's 30 inches of snow on the ground there 😄 enjoy the season you're in, we miss the winters these days.

I usually do my lawn, mid to late march weather depending. I'll rake and mow every week or so until Mid April, then let mother nature do her thing.

Oh man, that's something I should have put in the video, do that raking and mowing weekly even if the grass isn't quite growing all the way yet. Of course don't keep scalping it but your comment adds a lot of extra and great info to this video. Thanks!

Living in NE Ohio, dealing with lots of snow and ice. Got a lot of ground heaving with thaws and refreezing. Think I’ll need to roll my yard with a roller this year to even out the high and low spots

That's one thing I'm so glad I never had to deal with up in OR. We'd get snow and ice and cold but never had to deal with the heaving.

I do all this on 1st week of February ...up in Northern California...reason is...I need to get my weed prevention down before all my lazy neighbors cut and spread weeds

Way to be in front of the pressure. I'd peg you guy's PE depending on where you live of course around mid to late feb so the early season prep in early Feb is perfection! Love it!

Thanks Brian. I’m in Orange County Calif with tall fescue. Should I wait for the end of the month to apply the pre-emergent? And what about Grub Ex - mid/late March?

No problem, random I saw your comment hit seconds after posting it. In OC go ahead and drop PE now, grass type doesn't matter it's all about soil temps. Here in Camarillo I've got a soil thermometer in my front yard, this afternoon it said 60. Don't wait, we might have rain on Wednesday so tomorrow through Tuesday is perfect. As for grubex, I'd shoot for mid April. Hope that helps!

@ thanks. Grass still a little wet from the rain. Giving it another day. Plan is to apply the PE tues late afternoon and then let the rain water it in.

Can you use an electric detached to “fluff” the turf or does it have to be a manual rake?
@TurfMechanic
@TurfMechanic 13 сағат бұрын
You definitely can use an electric, most people don't have them though so I wanted to keep this simple first the average lawn owner. Using electric I would not go below grade, I'd keep it at grade. Grass isn't growing yet so you don't want to inflict damage.

I use my blower to lift up my grass
@TurfMechanic
@TurfMechanic 10 сағат бұрын
That is a great option too. Rakes tend to work better but the blower can get some of it up and make the job less laborious for sure. Great add, thanks!
