Billie said in an Interview once that her biggest fear is the ocean. She also said that she was hoping to get to make a video with water and stuff so she could face her biggest fear. She freaking did it! I’m so proud of her. Also in her documentary, her ex Q called her and said something about him driving while drunk. And Billie got really scared. So when she said “you called me again, drunk in your bench driving home under the influence. You scared me to death but I’m waisting my breath” in this song, it hit hard.

For me, it seems like the first part of the song was her trying to break up with him...gently? Or at least with a modicum of dignity. And then, she ends up unleashing on him. Like, "you know what? This is how I really feel! And damn it feels good to get it off my chest!"
@alternateuniverse4222 жыл бұрын

It's not a record company behind the sound, this is all Billie and Finneas. They are amazing. And yes this is all billie's experience with an ex. The relationship and it ending was exposed in the documentary and I think he didn't take it well.
@DAMmusicshow3 жыл бұрын
We agree it's Billie and her brother. Almost all of the other Billie videos, we make that exact statement. Micah was making a quip about how record companies don't have anything to add to Billie's art. It's a subtle, sly joke from Micah.

It looks like she is with Interscope Records, but yes I believe in Finneas and Billie hand over foot and I'm fully aware they are 10000% the creators of the sound!

I can tell you this. Billie and Finneas were unschooling children taught by life itself from their parents. I know first hand what it's like to be real close to your children because I have a 15yo son who is also unschooled. A better term is "self directed learning/education " which means you let your children take the wheel and allow them to navigate their lives. What they are doing is proven success and I have absolutely no doubt my son also will fly like them both into something he is passionate about. I have 2 older sons who were taught in a public school and that was a disaster and to be honest I never felt the closeness that I do wirh my youngest unschooler. I am here to support and love him every single day we live our life together ❤ Pandemic and all we are the same. Billie and Finneas parents allowed them to be FREE! They are self taught and self passionate in everything they do. We absolutely love them. And they are a wonderful example to our general homeschooling community. So when people ask us if unschoolers can be successful without a dime of school, my answer is always Billie and Finneas. Thanks for the reaction it was awesome 👌 👏 👍

I love this whole album, and I feel this song in particular as well as "Male Fantasy" is best consumed as a whole piece of art. Happier Than Ever, the album, is a story about abuse and trauma, coming to terms both with what parts of that are 'her' (the listener's) fault and what parts aren't, and then coming around to being able to be happy again at the end.

So, I would like to add another layer to this song. I'm a grown ass adult woman, healing from childhood trauma. I went through plenty of messy breakups, so I absolutely see that side of this. But... hear me out... This hit me hard as it reminded me of the relationship I endured with my biological father. He was narcissistic , emotionally abusive when he bothered to be around, touted me as one of his accomplishments, bad mouthed my mother, told me my friends were stupid, told me I would understand when I'm older. I now have zero contact with him and don't give two shits, but this literally sounds like my inner screaming at him.

Nice commentary, but I'll admit I feel like the comparison to Taylor is relatively flawed. You mentioned that this is a "breakup song" like Taylor but completely different. That's because it's not a breakup song, it's a healing song, a go-out-to-the-beach-and-scream-into-the-void song. I feel this is the case because she's alluded to therapy in other songs on the album and it's a very "my bad luck is turning around"-type record. I would guess that the rain and high waters in the last scene are comparable, if not analogous, to the feeling that therapy provides to someone that it's in the process of mending: you feel vulnerable, no longer inside and safe and at a distance from your problems; you're soaked, desolate, but also reunited with yourself, found, at-ease. Free. The dancing at the end. It's her feeling free.
@iris-xo3 жыл бұрын
Exactly & plus people need to stop acting like Taylor is the only artist who writes about breakups… that comparison is very weird tbh. Like you said this song is about Billie getting out of a VERY toxic relationship, that many got to witness firsthand from her documentary. That guy was a complete douche.
@DAMmusicshow3 жыл бұрын
@@iris-xo Calling the comparison weird is a bit weird itself. It's an apt comparison, whether you recognize it or not. Also, the comparison is about chronicling their lives, not break up songs. Darren's comments is about how their songs often feel like a diary of their lives. The break up mention is only 1 example. But the comparison is the chronicling where they are in their lives. And we'd hardly call it weird.
@iris-xo3 жыл бұрын
@@DAMmusicshow I mean like my point still stands… Taylor Swift isn’t the first or only artist that does that lol… a lot of musicians use their music as a form of therapy. There’s so many Taylor comparisons with Olivia Rodrigo writing songs about her breakup also. Like it’s just a weird comparison to always compare any and every breakup song to Taylor. I understand the comparison cuz Taylor was literally called many sexist things for her music in the past and everything and is really known for it, but I just feel she’s not the one who invented it or only person to do it so it’s just frustrating to always see people comparing it.
@DAMmusicshow3 жыл бұрын
@@iris-xo A lot of people write about break ups. We agree. That's not what the comparison is... listen again... the comparison is their diaristic approach to music. Taylor is anthemic in her music, Billie is cathartic. But both do a lot of chronicling of their lives in their music. More than many artists. The comparison is there, not break ups. Darren mentioned that Taylor writes a lot of break up songs, but her's tend to be F you, don't need you anymore, that guy was a loser type songs with a big sing-a-long chorus. Billie's songs are more about expressing her pain. That's what Darren said.

you cut off the first part of the first line so you missed that it is indeed a breakup song. Gentleman in the middle had it right much sooner. the very first line is "When I'm away from you I'm happier than ever." You started it at "...happier than ever" and missed the first part. :)
@DAMmusicshow2 жыл бұрын
The gentleman in the middle thanks you. He is the smart, talented, handsome one 😉

y'all was too quick to comment. Her Avril comes out right after y'all commented the first time. C'mon Darren-join in the Billie fandom. Lyrics actually coincide with the docu. Melissa's hair looks cool. Is it blue or is it the lighting?
@DAMmusicshow3 жыл бұрын
Melissa's hair is really purple and blue.
@micahwagnermusic3 жыл бұрын
It's legit blue! Plus there's a blue light in the studio.

I commented about this last time, but could not reply to your response for some reason... I subscribe to Billie's official youtube channel, and the lyrics are included in each song when first released. Others who react seem to be able to see the lyrics when reacting. Some may choose not to use them, but they are usually commenting on her voice or music instead of the lyrics. If you are going to interpret her meaning or story, then you should use the release that includes the lyrics. A majority of her fans will have already watched it many times, and read or memorized all the lyrics as well as having seen some interviews where she discusses it further by the time they watch you react to it. You can still choose to go without the lyrics, but it will increase your credibility with folks who know the lyrics are immediately available when the song is released. Hopefully I worded it better this time.
@DAMmusicshow3 жыл бұрын
we can't show the lyrics with out system. it's not an option for us
@DAMmusicshow3 жыл бұрын
We agree with most of what you said, except the Credibility. People driving around in a car don't have the lyrics on the screen. This is a reaction video, not a book report on the lyrics. We are. reacting to the entire thing - first time we see it. If we can't understand the lyrics, that's on the singer. It's part of the reaction.

If you guys wish to revisit this song and other 2021's hits, I strongly recommend that you react to Inutilismo's "2021 em uma música". My guess is that you'll love it. Plus, since you liked a few of Anitta's songs, you'll be able know a bit of a few other brazilian songs/artists/rythms... :)

I wouldn’t have liked this song but I heard the ending and I really liked the more rockier sound to this compared to her other songs

Incorrect. She technically has three albums, Don't Smile At Me(an EP), When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, and Happier Than Ever. Her EP is great too and doesn't get the recognition it deserves.
@DAMmusicshow2 жыл бұрын
An EP is a medium-length album that has a fewer number of songs than an LP or full length album, usually 4 to 6 songs long. ... The difference between EP and LP is that an LP is 'Long Playing' and generally has more than 8 tracks. Whereas, as above an EP has 4-6 tracks. None of this really matters. It's just fodder for discussion.

Yeah he probably got jumped on because of the eyelash thing because she has said it in multiple meet and greets if somebody jokes around and says it She asked them to stop because it’ll originally started as somebody that hated her and refused to say her name the right way and then it just spread on social media when they did that and she thinks it’s disrespectful
