At 7:30...."You are a gentleman, and a scholar." If you want to continue that saying, I always say, ...."and there are very few of US left!" Great videos gentlemen! Always interesting and educational but we're STILL waiting to hear Greg with his own mic! We love your back and forth with each other and it offers a lot of jobsite humor which always helps a day go quicker! Keep up the otherwise awesome work and we'll keep watching! CHEERS!!

Cupolas were originally designed for ventilation at the peak of the roof where the hottest air would accumulate. Early models had slats and modern working cupolas have casement windows that open via a hanging chain.

Few years away from building my bardo. Hoping to setup a cupola as a “Widow’s Watch”. Will be a good spot to see most of the property. Just need to sort out reasonable access. Neighbor has his setup and even included switches to the lights on out buildings.

I tap a scrap 2x4 block to gently get the roof stiffeners up. Then feed the tab at top in between the silver and black plates. Tightening the base bolts locks them in place. Square up the top plate to the roof panels before tightening the bolts

Why don't you set the bottom of the 2x6 x braces at the top of the grey pole brackets? So they bear on the face of the pole instead of the metal? I like to put an 1 1/2 seat cut on the top of lower x, and bottom of upper x, so the upper bears on the lower 😊

@AustenitizedRecords
@AustenitizedRecords Жыл бұрын
@@c.a.martin3029 They are not good for light even with the windows. But if you get a ventilated one you have to cut a hole in the base which is allowed without effecting warranty.

What about ridging the roof inside the cupola before the roof of it goes on? In case hail breaks a window pane. So that any water ingress goes out under the base and not through the building ridge gap. Love your buildings and detailed work. Reid in South Africa.

Always amazes me with these buildings that there is so little structure to them, roof trusses like 2.4m apart. We build house extensions here in Scotland and have to use steel beams for ridges and trusses are 600mm apart sometimes 400mm. Tiny compared to these buildings

@AustenitizedRecords

I hate these things. They are so expensive and a pain in the butt to build and install. I have gotten pretty fast though, i can slap together a 4'x4' (our most common size) by my self in a hour. I have came up with alot of mods over the years to reinforce them, their stock configuration just seems to flimsy for midwest winds imo. The corner pieces of the roof with high winds will vibrate and they slide down and the whole roof goes limp and flops around in the wind. I put a stitch screw at the base of all them pieces and it seems to prevent this problem.

I've spent so much of my life, or so it seemed, taking people's stuff apart and rebuilding it PER THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL!!! Every piece of kit-built product comes with a comprehensive manual, usually in 4, but up to 12, languages. Some, like IKEA, do pictograms, others give you both dialogue and graphics. As long as you follow the dotted-line, you can't go wrong. Then I watched the rest of the video and there's Greg almost yelling at you for STILL not reading the freaking instructions. Read and follow the instructions. You cannot go wrong that way.
