I'm 65 and I've heard a ton of great rock. Love prog rock Jethro Tull, Emerson Lake and Palmer and Yes plus good ol Rock like Led Zeppelin Deep Purple and Jimi Hendrix Experience. It may be my failing memory but I think the pop sensibilities coupled with complex composition and brilliant execution makes this band unique and frankly superior to many acts of Rock's golden age. I know why I said the above We didn't have any reactors back then. We lent each albums and tapes. We had no Spotify. So we couldn't understand if the music was densely layer or super crazy inventive NOT to the degree anyone else with a smartphone has it. I think that's why I am so impressed by their music.

THE best Hard Rock band in existence. I'd have to recommend watching...well, their entire back catalogue and everything they make in future but starting with Domination (live, Feb 14th 2020) kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5PcgnaAo5ulj8k will certainly help you on your way down this deep and beautiful rabbit hole (like Babymetal's Fox Hole, Band-Maid's is the Pigeon Hole!). @@imyfujita Why? I think everyone knows them already and, if not, the information is on Wikipedia, every B-M fan site and even on the band members' social media pages, where they always post pictures and information when it's their birthdays. I know it is considered impolite in many parts of the world to ask someone - especially a woman apparently - their age...and yet most people I met in Japan asked me my name first, asked where I was from second and asked me my age third. I learned that this information was important in knowing what to address me as - ie, san, sensei (I was teaching there), senpai or even sama!

Fun fact: At the time of the song "Thrill". Miku (Red rose headband) was in the early stages of learning to play the guitar. She was pretty much a walking guitar stand. But we are most proud of her now. She plays quite well. Kanami has taught her well.

@@Jordan-Ramses - Yes, but as far as I know it was Kanami that decided that it is not OK that Miku was running around with a prop. That now it was time for Miku to learn to play the prop. Prepare yourself.... And welcome to the Pidgeon Hole! They cover a wide range of various rock genres, and they absolutely love us the fans! During the pandemic, they did several online concerts and wrote a song called About Us, that was essentially a love letter to the fans, and how they wish for the day they could play for us live again. I got to see them last October and they were absolutely amazing! After the 2022 US tour, they again, wrote a song, that was a love letter to the fans, and how much they appreciated the love and support they got from us. You really cant go wrong with any of their songs and I look forward to more reactions!

Oh, to be where you are now. With every new song they're going to blow your mind even more. Even if it's the same song, since their compositions are so dense you'll keep hearing new stuff. That said, they have like 140 plus songs all ranging from very good to OMG (or OMNG if you're Tom Clark). Don't even try to categorize them into a genre - they are their own genre. Despite the incredible musicianship on display, I'd say their strongest strengths are songwriting and putting on a great show. You my friend, need to try like heck to see them when they return here (assuming you're in the US) in August. You'll regret it if you don't. I traveled from the Midwest to San Diego to see them last year, and the interaction between fans and the band was constant and very very loud. It's a freaking blast. If you're anywhere near Chicago, try to score tix to their late night (Lollapalooza after show) show on 8/3, followed by their actual performance at Lolla the next afternoon. They'll blow away everyone else that plays that day with their aprons tied behind their back. Er... I guess all aprons tie behind your back - maybe.

Saw them in Dallas twice, Houston twice and Austin. I have been very lucky seeing them that many times already. Misa and Miku recognized me at the last show almost immediately. I was in same place each time..lol. I got guitar picks from each of them and drum sticks from Akane. Saiki actually said thank you to me for seeing them so many times. If I wasn't a fan before that I am now defiantly hooked on them. When she looks you in your eyes, she mesmerizes you with hers. I was shocked they recognized me. A friend of mine got it all on video. Audio quality isnt to good. But you can clearly see it. If it was better quality and could hear what they said I would post it.

Saiki just looked at her shook her head at Kanami..lol See I told you they really like you. At least that's what a friend of mine said who really understands Japanese. I use to live in Japan. I forgot alot of Japanese. Its spotty now at best. Not much use for it in Central Texas. Kanami seems to have difficult when people say they really like her playing. And she seems so bashful when not performing even when on stage. Her playing personality is so different from when she's not playing. Never really got the chance to say anything to Misa. This was in Austin. These 5 amazing ladies are so different from each other. But musically they click so dam well as a whole. I think that's one reason they are so well loved everywhere.

Well, done. I like that you started with the first music video and then jumped to latest concert performance. You'll find that this band is often better live than in the studio. They have talent and charisma for days which really shines through in live performances. Performances such as 'Puzzle', Real Existence' and 'Domination'. That doesn't mean you should avoid their music videos, however. Videos like "RINNNE', 'DICE' and 'The non-fiction days', or the killer instrumental 'From Now On'

Welcome aboard, JD. You are embarking on (along with many others - over 178 million YT views plus over 40 million reactor plays!) an awesome, progressive, hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid: BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Prog, Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Joy of Playing, Consistency (125 songs), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destined for mega-stardom. Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off-the-rails spectacular! Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 70 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5XWaJppgpJnorM Their songs from albums Unleash, Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, Just Bring It, Brand New Maid, and New Beginning drive even more - Warning, No God, Different, Black Hole, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Don’t You Tell Me, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on. But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, About Us, Memorable, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, At The Drop Of A Hat, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like After Life, Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or progressive like No God, Giovanni, and Black Hole… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like From Now On, Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts… or their many acoustic versions like Catharsis and Sayonakidori... and last but not least, their Anime hits like Sense, Glory and Unleash (from their own Anime MV (series?)): kzbin.info/www/bejne/bX2lkHiGiJlrfqc) And many songs are represented with 50 well produced music videos. kzbin.info Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE audience & online OKYU-JI concerts:  ONLINE OKYU-JI (Feb. 11, 2021) “No God” kzbin.info/www/bejne/pHLHiKF_h896l80  Tokyo's LINE CUBE SHIBUYA (February 14, 2020) “Domination” kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5PcgnaAo5ulj8k  ZEPP 2018 “Real Existence” kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6K0n35_gbdoq5I  Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 and other full concerts are on bandmaidprime.tokyo, bili, and official Band-Maid’s DVD/BD/CD.  “P and D²” 30+ Photo Collage videos at www.youtube.com/@PinD2/videos And some of the better quality fan videos are excellent. Here’s two of what it’s like to see Band-Maid LIVE at an intimate venue:  Shot by Pat McKee from their 2023 US tour concert in Detroit: kzbin.info/www/bejne/epjbhmCDi8-nl5I  See the Maids 2023 Rockville Festival’s short-set perfection performance: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJu9nIGbpKygnsU If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, CD, DVD/BD & Merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid. For fun, check out an awesome, little known "Mega Band-Maid Mix" by DJ Ray of some of their earlier stuff: facebook.com/djrayboston/videos/1004709499579009 Band-Maid Members: Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. At 29 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock frontwomen... or frontmen! Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 31 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kuruppo! No, no, no… KURUPPO!! Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 31 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more! Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 32 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party! MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 30 years old. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note... uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA! Maidiacs (Maid-e-acts) - Band-Maid’s crazed yet supportive, knowledgeable and loyal Super Fans. Since the guitars got commented on and the Black Cloud clarification has been made, maybe I could suggest Googling "Zemaitis Flappy Pigeon". It wasn't in the first video, but a sharp eyed birdwatcher can spot it in the second one.

Okay, names, pronunciation, nicknames, and roles, in order that they joined the band. Miku Kobato - mee-koo - Kuruppo, the Little Pigeon, the Little Engine Who Will - band founder, backing (and occasionally lead) vocals, rhythm guitar, principal lyricist, tireless Spokespigeon and PR machine. Wielder of weapons grade cuteness. So determined to see her band succeed that she fired herself as lead singer (she decided her voice wasn't strong enough for hard rock), then went looking for a replacement. Learned to play guitar after the band was formed. Kanami Tono - kah-nah-mee - Kanamincho or just Mincho - lead guitar, keyboards, principal composer and arranger. On stage, she's a savant mad riffer with a room temperature IQ and a huge crush on Saiki. In reality, she's a genius, and not just musically- she has a degree in economics with honors from Tokyo University. Akane Hirose - ah-kah-neh - A-chan, the Gorilla - drums, sequencing, snacks, the leader the band doesn't have. What you see is what you get- a cheerful jock with a huge appetite who burns off the calories murdering her drums. Frequently snacks between songs. MISA - mee-sah - the Barefoot Assassin, MISA MISA MISA! - bass, booze, occasional wet work. Usually stone faced. Barely acknowledges the audience's existence. Always has a beer or a bottle of Jim Beam on her Orange amp. Originally, these were ways of coping with stage fright. These days, that's just how the assassin rolls. Saiki Atsumi - sah-ee-kee (but Psyche is close enough) - the Ice Queen, Sensei, Sai-chan - lead vocals, some lyrics, the "We're done" girl. Fashionista and train nerd. In total command on stage; hides behind Miku off stage (she's actually kind of shy).

Actually it was a Fender Jazz Bass. It has since been retired. She had to switch to a 5 String for BAND-MAD. And, since MISA plays Black Cloud basses exclusively, she had them make one in that style. She also has their Black Smoker, as well as an SG Precision and a Jaguar style bass.

I’m glad you recognize the timing of these videos! Saying that Thrill is their most popular song based in aggregate views is nowhere near accurate! I haven’t heard anyone says it’s their favorite although, to each their own… some do prefer their earlier, simpler, songs. I love how they’ve become so much more technical, and progressive, without sacrificing one bit of their catchiness. I think that’s due to their primary composer… the lead guitarist, Kanami.

Maidiacs Incoming! Brace yourself! 🐦 Nicely done! Going early followed by newer was a creative choice! Band-Maid is their own genre at this point. They won’t be pigeonholed (😉 to Maidiacs) “I didn’t expect that” will be the most common phrase you’ll use. Here are my offerings based on style you may like: “From Now On,” official music video; recent heavy metal instrumental. If you want heavier, melodic, guitar-centric “Domination,” official live video; one of their legendary, most energetic live performances. Maid signature rock with audience call/response pop chorus “DICE,” official music video. Rare time when music video is better. If you like Mötley Crüe/GNR done Maid-style “Real Existence,” official live video, Zepp Tokyo Another legendary early live show, hard rock, wicked riffs, thundering drums “non-fiction days,” another earlier modern rock, late 90’s, early 2000’s style banger of a rock song. Fire 🔥 Beach 🏝️ Shredding 🎸…the whole package As you’ll discover, Band-Maid can do it all. And they do it all in their own, signature style. I describe them as “hard rock fusion” because they have elements of prog rock, punk, pop, and metal, often inside the same song! Band-Maid have developed the ability to compose uniquely different songs that are still unmistakably Band-Maid. There are some songs you aren’t ready for yet. Let us know when you’ve become an official Maidiac and we’ll release the titles of the special ones Until then, I’m subscribed and look forward to seeing you tumble down the pigeon hole! 🕳️ 🎉

Thank you for doing a reaction to my favorite band. I love their early stuff, but you can see how far they have come since then. They have been writing their own music and lyrics for years now and you can see them continually challenge themselves and grow as musicians and performers. When Kanami gave the band a choice on the song Black Hole between various levels of difficulty ranging from Easy to Hell, the band selected Hell. I look forward to seeing you react to more of the many, many great songs they have. One suggestion, save the ballads Memorable and About Us for later in your journey. About Us was a love letter from the band to their fans and Memorable was written while on their 2022 US tour in reaction to the amazing reception they found here. Great songs, but they will fit better once you have heard more of their other songs.

Welcome to my OTHER favourite band! They excel live, and are known for impeccable raw skill levels, intricate and interesting song writing abilities and wide range of styles. FYI: In the Thrill video, the rhythm guitarist/back up singer Miku was just pretending to play!! She only subsequently learned to play (quite well) under the careful tutoring of the lead guitarist and core musical song writer. Miku formed the band but quickly realised they needed a stronger front vocalist so they found Saiki. And what a find she was.

Oh my gosh, you have opened the floodgates. Why do you love this? Because they may be the best rock group in the world today (I think they are). They are certainly the most creative band since the Beatles. (Yes, I stand by that statement!) You are going to get a lot of suggestions. First, a little background on the band: Saiki Atsumi - Lead vocals Born Feb 8, 1994 29 years old MISA - Bass Born Oct 15, 1992 30 years old Kanami Tono - Lead guitar, Main composer and arranger Born Sept 28, 1991 31 years old Miku Kobato - Rhythm guitar, backing vocal Born Oct 21, 1991 31 years old Akane Hirose - Drums Born Dec 14, 1990 32 years old Miku was working in a Maid Café after being in an idol group that didn’t break through. She envisoned the idea of a maid-band that plays hard rock and metal. She recruited Kanami, after finding a Kanami guitar cover on line; Kanami then recruited Akane, who recruited MISA. Akane and MISA had been students together at the Tokyo Music Academy. The group decided they needed more vocal “oomph”, and collectively recruited Saiki. Miku didn't know how to play guitar when they started, so Kanami has been teaching her. She's become good so fast that she is really adding to the music mix, and Maidiacs are daring to dream of a dual shred. The band was struggling early on, and in 2014, even as the label was considering dropping them, they posted a music video, “Thrill” which went viral globally. When they realized what was going on, it gave them the momentum to forge ahead, and they have now done multiple tours of Europe and the U.S. and are building a global fanbase who call themselves the Maidiacs. They have released seven full albums, as well as several EPs, singles and music videos. They have put out around 160 songs, covering a wide variety of styles and sounds, without any duds. They combine a punk vibe with instrumental virtuosity (two things that are often seen as being incompatible), and have done some amazing progressive-rock songs with a metal edge to them. They toured the U.S. in 2022 and sold out 14 cities in less than 48 hours. Their fan base skews heavily to actual practicing musicians. Some of those followed the band to multiple dates and documented everything on youtube-some of the footage is hilarious. I’ve seen them twice (2019 and 2022) and their shows are truly life-reaffirming. They are touring the U.S. twice more in 2023; So far no announcements of another European tour but it seems likely in 2024. Band-Maid are that rare band that sound perfect live, even better than in the studio. Here are more links: Freedom (Feb 14 2020) kzbin.info/www/bejne/fHnTpningqaWesk Domination (Feb 14 2020) kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5PcgnaAo5ulj8k Choose Me (Feb 14 2020) kzbin.info/www/bejne/fpTUmqeYjcycnbc Onset (Instrumental-insane!) kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4fVf2CglLqWZrc And an official MV, one of their most popular: Daydreaming (it’s a slower ballad, gorgeous and truly heart-wrenching): kzbin.info/www/bejne/iHTEloihp66nr7s If you want more background, I suggest you react to this classic interview. It's hilarious, it's insightful, you will learn their names for good, and their cuteness will destroy your brain. Oh, and they are completely nuts. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iGWzoJmphr6qpJY

Is "Thrill" their best song, to some no but it is their most significant, which for me sets it at top of the list. "Thrill" is the song/video that set the hook past the barb for me. The first four measures sealed it for me and 3-1/2 years later they are still my darlings of hard rock. I'm suggesting "DICE' "Blooming" and Manners" music videos and Domination" LIVE. @@seizetheday5008 Thankee SIr. Band Maid was started in 2013 by Miku Kobato. At the time she had just left the Idol Group, Lil Cumin and she didn't like the type of music she had been performing. She approached her management agency with the idea of making an actual band playing rock music but dressed as maids. She had worked in a Maid Cafe and thought the image of maids playing rockin music would create what she called "The Gap" between what you see and what you hear. The Management company was like Ok, go ahead. Miku then looked around and found Kanami a singer/songwriter who was posting her own videos on the internet. Miku had her agency contact her and Kanami thought the idea was cool and agreed to join. Miku then asked if Kanami knew a drummer who might be interested. Kanami had worked with Akane in the past and there is 2 versions of this, the first is, Kanami literally walked over to Akane's apartment and asked her, the second is Kanami called Akane and asked her. (Akane has said in 2 different interviews that 1: Kanami called her and asked if she could come over and 2: in a second interview Kanami just came over) Akane was actually hesitant as she had worked in an "All Girl Group" before and didn't enjoy it as it wasn't the type of music she wanted to play. After hearing a Demo, Akane was like ok, but was still slightly hesitant because of the "Maid Outfits", but she agreed to give it a try. Akane was asked if she knew a bass player and she had gone to Tokyo School of Music with MISA and had worked a couple of jobs with her. So Misa was contacted and after she heard a demo she was like I like the music, but she also was hesitant about the "Maid Outfits", but she relented and joined in as she really wanted to play the kind of music she heard in the demo. The 3 of them then "Auditioned" for the record company and passed the audition. Now we have the "Core" members. The 4 members worked out some songs provided for them by the record company, and a setlist and they had performed 3 times with just Miku on main vocals. Miku after those performances felt that her voice wasn't powerful enough to really perform the songs she wanted. So she approached her management company again and asked if they had any singers who weren't in other projects. They then auditioned several singers. Miku heard Saiki rehearsing in a room across the hall and asked if she could be auditioned, the record company then had Saiki audition. Saiki was signed to the same management company and had done some work as a backup singer and dancer and was asked if she would be interested in auditioning for this new group which currently had 4 members and she would be the fifth. She had been a member of a group with 8 other people as a backup singer and dancer, and HATED it. So she listened to the demo and thought "Cool" because she liked the music. Now we come to the tricky part. Miku KNEW that if Saiki was told about the "Maid Outfits" she would say NO WAY!, so they didn't tell her. They told her they would have "Cool/cute Clothes"(I've read it translated either way), and she never met Miku until a few days before they had a contracted performance. She wasn't told about the "Maid Outfits" until the day before the performance, and she had considered backing out, but she had signed the contract. (Saiki also had NEVER met Miku until then as well) So the Ladies, went and did the performance and Saiki really, REALLY liked the crowds reaction and the music they were performing. She DIDN'T like the apron she wore so it got ditched after the first performance. And you now have the beginnings of the BEST LIVE HARD ROCK BAND in the WORLD! ALL HAIL BAND MAID!!!!! Now that we have the Full band, it was felt that there needed to be a second guitar. Saiki was like, "Not Me, No Way." So Miku said, "I'll do it.", at first that was literally all she did, was hold the guitar and mime playing it, until Akane said, if you are going to hold it, you NEED to learn to play it. And Miku said, "Ok.", and Kanami started to teach Miku how to play. The Ladies released their first album in 2014 "Maid in Japan" which failed to chart, but later after "Thrill" it was reissued and charted to #26 in Japan. Then in 2015 they released "New Beginning" On New Beginning was the song that changed Band Maid's entire existence. "Thrill"... The band was getting ready to release their first music video and the choice was between "Love, Passion, Matador" and "Thrill" and the ladies chose Thrill. (Little known fact, Miku helped with the lyrics on Thrill but did not get credited) This became the seminal moment of Band Maid. Because their second album charted at #64, the record company was seriously considering disbanding the Ladies and switching them to other projects. (In fact they had Kanami and Akane work with Mochi to Cheese thinking that when Band Maid cratered they could use them in another band. MISA had also just started working with Mochi to Cheese as well). However about 6 months after the video's release, a Facebook page "JRock Radio" posted the video to their timeline. And the video went viral. Having over a million views in just a few short weeks. The Ladies Twitter page got so many hits they thought their page had been hacked. Their KZbin channel also started getting more and more subscribers and views to Thrill. Now the ladies knew where their fans wanted them to go. Harder Rock, less pop. And history was Maid. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

On that live show people weren't allowed to yell. If you look other live shows videos like Domination and/or Play live also on their channel you can experience the fans yell.

Like 2abug said, in the thrill video, MISA was still playing a regular Fender Precision Bass. During No God she was playing her custom Black Smoker that was antiqued.

These five phenomenally talented beautiful musician from Japan are awesome. The worst thing about this group, is their fan base. If you can stomach some of it. Then you're in for a treat.
