This song is part of their Map of the Soul series; this series is inspired by Jungian philosophy and explores BTS’s inner feelings. This series also revisits several of their early songs. ON revisits their early song NO. NO involved BTS pushing back against a harsh education system and economic system. ON sees BTS now say “bring on that pain. We are strong and can handle it.” So it’s not about haters but about navigating a challenging time/society, knowing you are strong enough to handle pain and persevere.

Jimin is a dance genius. He started off by dancing hip hop at a dance academy, taking part in dance battles (and winning), was so good that the academy waived his fee when he couldn't afford it. Then he switched to contemporary/modern, gained entrance to Busan Arts Highschool, added ballet and traditional Korean as subjects and became the top student in the school. Then he switched again, joining K-pop and with the shortest training period, debuted as main dancer. His dance versatility is on another level, add his acrobatic skills and his ability to emote lyrics of a song to the mix and he is simply one of a kind dancer.

No More Dream was the name of their debut song in 2013. In it, they sing about not being caged in by the strict societal expectations of schooling and the pipeline from school to workforce. Your entire life would be mapped out based on that schooling and what academics you were then allowed to pursue. The idea of having to lock yourself in at the age has caused mental health issues with students (with high numbers of depression rates), and BTS came along and told everyone it's okay to not have a dream yet. Because most of those dreams came from parents and schools telling you what you were allowed to accomplish. Here, they're bookending the idea with finding your own dream and soaring higher. This album (and song) was intended to be their last before military enlistment and hiatus, but the pandemic interrupted all their carefully crafted plans.

"I DONNO WHO HE IS" - He is PARK JIMIN, main dancer and lead vocalist of BTS, voted King of Kpop and Best Kpop Dancer for 5 years in a row. Jimin's solo release "Like Crazy" still remain the only KOREAN solo song to hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. It is also the longest charting song by a K-act on Spotify, it is still charting today, despite not being promoted. The song has 0 collabs, just him. Jimin's "Filter" released in BTS' "Map of the Soul:7" album is the album's best selling song, yes beating even the lead single ON. Jimin's "Promise", a free song he wrote and released on Soundcloud to this day remains as the most downloaded song on the platform. Sorry for only talking about Jimin (because he was asked about), know that all the BTS members are mega talented and each has their long list of individual accomplishments too 🙂.

They all are fantastic dancers and singers. This song is about how they have overcome difficulties/haters and can climb to the top. Most armies would go straight to the dance video first!!! always! I wanted to mention something that is important to me: have you noticed that BTS does not need/show any sexual objectification in their videos like most popular singers? Even their dancers are noticeable because of their talent but not for other reasons. I love them for that. They are showing talent and respect to their fans and, in these days, that is pure magic to me. Thanks for another lovely reaction. I hope to see more. This song "ON" was my daily listen during COVID, I listened to it everyday on the way to work during the lockdown or circuit breaker period in Singapore. I work in healthcare, and during this time, I was involved with PCR testing for the migrant workers. We tested 100 to 200 people daily and we worked out of a makeshift clinic with no air-conditioning in PPE in hot and humid tropical conditions. Everyday, it felt like I had been in a sauna. By the time I de-gowned, I was dripping wet in sweat. It was not an easy time, and this song kept me going every single day during that time. So I don't take it lightly when people don't take this song very seriously, or only give it a shallow interpretation. This song helped me survive mentally during a tough time. It was the song I listened to before going into battle against the virus everyday. BTS said that the "BE" album was their pandemic album, but for me, it was the "Map Of The Soul: 7" album that was the real pandemic album, because of this song "ON". And even today, even though the pandemic is basically over, and most things have more or less gone back to how it was pre-COVID, this song continues to be the song I listen to whenever things get rough for me. It continues to be the BTS song that keeps me going, along with songs like "Not Today". As for the official music video for "ON", it has a lot of biblical references in it. There are also nods to a number of movies and TV shows in it. Other than Sepulveda dam, the other location was Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park.

I entered the BTS universe about a year ago, through my 16 year old daughter, when she wanted to show me Jimin's solo clip "set me free pt2", and I was astonished and in love, that's when I started hunting for everything which is relative to the group. Jimin is my favorite, I am absolutely enchanted by their personality, beauty and talents, but they all have a special place in my heart. Their songs saved me from severe depression and it was beautiful to see how they have love to give to the world and to each other. A lot of people are prejudiced against K-pop, (although I divide BTS and K-pop, they are their own lifestyle genre), because they think they are effeminate and so on (closed and sexist minds still exist), but when they You know what this group is capable of doing for the world, we don't even have much to say, just feel. Try to get into their history and go back to their first videos, (they've always been good) BTS isn't just one thing, they're everything. The music genres range through different styles and the messages they give us with their songs and lyrics, in addition to the love they have for each other, make us think that the world is a place that is still worth living in, that there are people who still spreads good and peace. May more Armys come so that love can be spread even further. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

This song is not really about the haters but about hardships and perseverance. This is from their Map of the Soul 7 album which is about the exploration of one's self, and in the album BTS reflect on their time leading to then, after they spent 7 years struggling in music markets that weren't welcoming to them. Their journey from the bottom to the top was not a easy one, they weren't given a free pass by the industry and they had to fight in their own way to grow and gain recognition, it was a while before people started to respect them as artist. But with this song they say that even if a situation is difficult they are going to take it head on because it's just who they are. I'm not entirely sure what all the symbolism in the music video means, but I see it as outcasts coming together for the purpose of creating a better life, finding a place where they are welcomed to go even higher. At the end of the video the words No More Dream appear, which is the name of their debut song from 2013; which is about following your own way, and not living to fulfill the goals that are bestowed onto you by others.

They hired a LA based gospel group, a part of the UCLA marching band and the Lab is the name of the dance group. The young woman in the front center in the beginning of the mv is the choreographer Sienna Laulau and she was 19 years old at that time. She has worked with them in 3 of their choreographies. When it comes to their mvs , the production of them are always the best. They limit the use of CGI and green screen, videos are mostly filmed in locations or they will build a set. They have a couple of videos that has a lot of green screen and CGI but they were intentional in their message to the audience. Enjoying your reactions so subscribing to follow your journey. I only discovered BTS in Nov 2023 so still very new. But I am obsessed by the depth of thought and intellect that has gone into many of their songs and albums. Whether it is societal comment or the exploration of Herman Hesse's Demian, or Carl Jung and Nietzche philosophies. As a retired teacher these Map of the Soul albums with their exploration of Jung's ideas of individuation of self which involved integrating all aspects of our personalities such as ego, shadow, persona. They are brilliant works that explore these concepts in detail. In this song for example we see JungKook (and the other members) accepting their shadow sides even though they bring pain - that they are going to take over and control these aspects of their personalities , part of the things that make me me as JHope says. Part of the individuation that occurs as we grow up and become mature adults, or at least we all hope to.

Both this song and Black Swan discuss facing one's personal shadows-an important theme within the philosophy developed by Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung. Dr Murray Stein wrote a series of lectures that became a book called Jung's Map of the Soul. Both On and Black Swan are from the BTS album Map of the Soul. BTS has never been shy about layering up overlapping stories and meanings that coherently speak to each other. The official MV contains religious references, movie references (including The Lion King & Maze Runner), And references to their earlier work. 'No More Dream' was their first song, which spoke to the difficulties of youth, particularly in the South Korean context. The song's title, 'On,' is the reverse of 'No', another early BTS song about the pressure on young people to study excessively. But the overall meaning is one of hope. It argues that you should face and come to terms with the parts of you that are shadows (and of course, these shadows can be the result of harm done to you by detractors but can be other things such as excessive pressure to do well in studies, or mental health issues etc.). This song proposes that coming to terms with your shadows can help you fight for your future and your life and have a dream of something good.

This guys are amazing!! They have become a huge part of my life and I love to see people respect them and be open minded. Really appreciate you guys! Can’t wait for the next reaction to this men!

ON and Black Swan came out on the same album and they were in the US during the time they needed to film the music videos, so both locations were scouted here.

This is from the Map of the soul Jungian Psychology where it explores the Ego, Shadow and Persona in relationship to themselves, their lives as individuals and artists. This particular track it talking about flying and waking up in place they don't even understand what's being said to the because of the language, their fears (Shadow) their fight to continue no matter how hard it is hence Bring on the pain. Funny the should say about bleeding together as V while they were making the MV was hit just under his eye with a zip from what he was wearing while dancing and the guys were asking him if he was alright. They were asking while they were looking at the monitors I think from the practice run as it's mainly done in one take with multi camera's so you see them walking into shot and out again. It was also watching the practice they realised they weren't showing up well enough against the marching band. They required some white items of clothing and they hd to improvise by lending each other white piece's of clothing and Jin's jacket got sprayed with white paint so then with the hits of white they were all able to stand out. Talk about doing things on the fly and being able to idea's how to quickly solve problems.

I love BTS because I feel like they make music for smart people. Their music has a lot of references to literature, psychology and mythology. For a cinematic video I would probably check out Blood Sweat and Tears or Daechwita.

79 yr old ARMY here. These seven extremely talented and very humble young men gave me back my love of music and have expanded my enjoyment to include rap! Thank you for your reactions. It has been fun watching BTS with you. After seeing a few of their MVs, I found watching some of the excellent Introduction videos such as the ones by xCeleste and of course Taylor Mari really enhanced my enjoyment and appreciation of this group. Most ARMY love watching these with new reactors including the longer ones. Blood, Sweat and Tears is another very different and cinematic video with a lot of symbolism I think you would appreciate. I hope you enjoy your exploration of BTS as much as I have. 💜

BTS performs this live and in concert. They stamina required to maintain the intense, intricate dance moves is a testament to their talent. While 2 were dancers prior to becoming trainees, the other 5 spent about 3 years as trainees prior t'o their debute. During that time they were trained in singing and dancing. So while JHope and Jimin came to the group as dancers, JungKook and V have excelled in dancing and even RM and Jin who struggled originally are now very good dancers. Suga, who never wanted to dance, has said that he came to really love it. ,

“Silver hair guy” is Jimin, a contemporary trained dancer. Most people’s “favorite” song is the one that suits best for that moment. You can’t compare, because every song is different and good. BTS is a rare group and as ARMYS know, you find the group when you need them most (are ready)in your life. 💜

BTS faced countless hardships at the beginning, as did their company, but they persisted and at the time of this MV, their popularity had really gained momentum. The was largely due to their incredible work ethic and the marketing genius of their company's founder, Bang Si-hyuk, aka Hitman Bang. He spared no expense (what little they had, at first) to create the best product possible. This is apparent in the production value you spoke of. But it's a fact that their success would not have been possible without the dedicated support of their fans, which is a whole 'nuther story.

Late reply as I’m in a different timezone: Both mv were filmed in California. ON Kinetic manifesto featured the Blue Devils marching band and The Lab dance crew from LA. There is a “behind” for the making of both mv on their yt channel: bangtantv. They also performed ON in Grand Central Station NYC on the Jimmy Fallon show. btw you should check out their “Fake Love“ & “ Spring Day “ mv . Thank you for all your thoughts and insights. I know you’re new to BTS but you are both very perceptive. As Jimin the silver haired awesome dancer would say “ you ‘re nice keep going! “

Well guys, it is clear you loved this. It is such a shame that the US media have done their level best to stop the American public from seeing, hearing and enjoying their quality music. This kinetic manifesto version was released 4 years ago. They also performed this song at Grand Central Station in NY, fun fact. The 2 dancers are rapper Jhope and vocalist Jimin (silver hair), my favourite member.

I know this official mv is a little confusing if you haven’t been following the Bangtan Universe back story…you’re in for a treat once you go down that road. BTS is the most entertaining and engaging band ever. They tie songs from different albums into each other and most albums have their own stories to tell (like albums of previous generations when you played the record from beginning to end for the story). These guys are something else…I’m so glad I’m still alive to see them. Truly blessed. Plz react to Blood Sweat and Tears. I think you’ll enjoy another cinematic masterpiece.

"Did I hit the right music video?" that's exactly my thought almost every time their MV start ;) They are so unpredictable, always delivering something fresh and mesmerizing. Some of their videos could be full movie producition and no one would be bored. The story line, symbols, production value, seriously I am left in awe most of the time. Plus, I don't blame you for being shock with Jimin's ability of dance. I could write on and on about his talent and professional training, about how hard-working he is, plus he is just that charismatic, you can't miss him :) Speaking only about his dancing he is professionaly trained dancer, oryginaly in contemporary dance and it's a huge deal how well he mastered dance typical for idols, based on hip hop moves mostly. When it comes to dance and performance people really often notice him first :) Ps. I saw that you liked symbolism of the oryginal MV. If you had fun with that and also liked the cinematic side of BTS videos I recommend to watch "Blood, sweat and tears" or "Fake love" MVs. You won't be disappointed ;)

@@HPReact I understand ;) I hope you know that my intention here wasn't mocking you, but when I heard your words it was just so, so similar to what I think at the beginning of almost all of their videos. Especially that when as a younger Army I discover their older MVs, often after knowing the song beforehand. I always has this surreal exeprience and often check twice if this is actually correct video until first sounds start. So, it was to good opportunity to pass when I heard your words ;)

For cinematics and/or production, check out: - Fake Love (part of the story line) - Daechwita (Suga's solo work as Agust D) - Mic Drop - I Need U +19 (the beginning of the story line -- the video is more pertinent than the lyrics, which were changed from original intention to be more romantic -- which to me, makes them a little incongruent with the video)

Their concert was cancelled and we hoped they would come back after covid. These boys from the beginning of their career have hit so many pot holes to maneuver around. BTS was supposed to start their mandatory military service not long after this and Black Swan came out, so they and Big Hit put a lot of time and money into their last few projects. Then the Korean gov't voted to let BTS delay their enlistment for 2 more years (BTS brings in approx $5 billion to Korea yearly). They are all now serving in the military and will all be out in 2025.
