I'm rediscovering this album after recovery from 15 years of addiction and it's haunting how relatable it is. "Little angel go away Come again some other day The devil has my ear today I'll never hear a word you say He promised I would find a little solace And some piece of mind Whatever just as long as I don't feel so Desperate and ravenous" C'mon now. I can re-live the withdrawal in these lyrics. It's painful and beautiful

This song represents how an addict thinks when picking up their fix, nothing else matters. This album helped me through my recovery from painkillers and still does to this day even after 10 years.
@bg874 Жыл бұрын
Decade ago I got on the pain pills, then graduated to heroin, before I finally got clean. Now years later I'm struggling with alcohol. This song hits hard. Shit I thought I was House MD snorting percoset, then going in and being top of my grad school class.... then reality hit.

SUCH a badass song. One of my faves. The 13th Step is my #1 APC album. You should listen to it from start to finish- the songs consecutively, tell a story. In typical Maynard genius fashion. 😜🤘 The whole thing is about addiction and recovery. Do Blue, The Noose, Weak & Powerless and The Nurse Who Loved Me- if nothing else. They're the best songs on it- IF I HAD TO PICK- but my suggestion is do the whole album. Start to Finish. In that order. Or, at least take a listen, on your own time, to the whole thing. It's crazy good. Promise you'll dig it.

This has been the band that saved my life during some incredibly dark and lonely times. If other bands were little pools of light, APC was the sun. Being so close to the ledge, absolutely numb to life, I needed APC to gut me open and allow me to put words to the agony I buried. APC also set me up to fall head first into Sleep Token as well. I think there were a lot of unintentional parallels between the two that the transition from one to the other is natural. Its like APC was like, "I got her this far now show her how to live."

Alanis Morisette😂 never made that connection before but you’re dead on with that one! More than most albums, 13th step really is a complete body of work following the journey of addiction and recovery from different perspectives. It’s a great song by itself, and also it’s really just a piece of a bigger puzzle…not meant to be a complete meal by itself if you will. Always love the tool and APC content, good stuff!
