Layne Staley had the best voice in Grunge
@chrishemphill45353 жыл бұрын
I would have to debate that … Try Chris Cornell Not only did he sing as good or better than Layne, Cornell was a lyrical genius. And.. I’m sorry to go here… I love me some Layne Staley and AIC .. but Cornell wasn’t all trashed out on heroin like many of his counterparts. RIP Layne RIP Chris Just my opinion

Chris Cornell had the best vocal range and style , anyway Layne was amazing ❤️

@Stopcens Oringus What’s hilarious is you think Layne Staley wrote any of AIC’s music.. 98% of the lyrics for AIC were written by Jerry Cantrell. Might wanna come to a debate with a brain there buddy.
@chrishemphill45353 жыл бұрын
@Stopcens Oringus Just the fact that Cornell was smart enough to avoid heroin addiction and live past the age of 34. I love Layne as much as the next. Cornell didn’t die as a skeleton of his former self. Cornell was happily married with kids. He also wrote all the music for Soundgarden, a major portion of Temple of the Dog.. Audioslave… You know what … There is not a reason in the world to disagree with you. The one who thought Layne Staley wrote the lyrics for 98% of Alice In Chains music. I shouldn’t have even wasted my time educating you.

Jerry Cantrell is Alice In Chains. He definitely keeps going along with Sean. I think Layne at his best is Love Hate Love from Live at The Moore also Man In A Box and Bleed The Freak. His vocals are on full display. He has such a powerful, well controlled and unique voice. You feel Layne not just hear him 🖤 Jerry's great riffs are off the chain. Mike's badass bass and Sean on drums is definitely underrated. Layne could sing the alphabet and it would be awesome. Pearl Jam is made up of entirely different people. Layne passedand the original bassist Mike Starr was let go from the band and replaced with Mike Inez. After many years of not playing they came back adding William Duvall. Should check out Jerry's song Black Gives Way To Blue, he wrote it for Layne. It's beautiful.

Layne oozes emotion in everything he sings-even when it was damped a bit by his situation later on in his career. Anytime he opened his mouth…..you felt what was inside him. Much love & respect to Jerry Cantrell for his writing abilities. But there is no one who could bring those words to life like Layne. He was truly one of a kind and an extremely amazingly talented front man. Still miss him to this very day…..even though I never personally knew him. He left a pretty big hole in the music industry.

Mother Love Bone was the band that would eventually become Pearl Jam. They lost their singer Andrew Wood and asked Chris Cornell of Soundgarden to work with them and formed Temple of the Dog, had Eddie Vedder guest track on a few of the songs. Cornell then went back to Soundgarden and Eddie stayed on as vocalist with the band changing it's name to Pearl Jam.

Hey you recieved some bad info. I knew Layne since1985 I went to school with Sean Kinney AIC's drummer since 7th grade Sean was a class ahead of me. Sean was class of '84 Liberty High school (Issaquah school district) state of Washington. I was classof 86 yeah we were so bad ass we got 86'st in 86. Anyways Pearl came on music scene just after Alice in Chains with the same year as Nirvana hit the Scene. Alice in Chains 1st to sign. Nirvana and Pearl Jam SoundGarden was the very first to sign had 3 albums made when Alice was signed they had same manager Sharon-Chris Cornels girl friend at the time. So no Alice in Chains didnot start PEARL JAM.

I can remember being 13/14 ish, and my Uncle giving me the Singles soundtrack to listen too (Film soundtrack,with lots of grunge bands on it) and this track was on there. I loved many of the tracks on that soundtrack, and as a result got into grunge (this and Nirvana) but the track that grabbed me the most and made me want to explore the grunge thing was this tune. Still bangs today, great band ,great vocalist, great chemistry , great songs, great albums.

I recommend the book, even in audio format, AIC the untold story. The testimonial of people watching Layne learn to sing through the months/years getting better and better until he could imitate anybody nearly perfect. And how he and his friends would get off the elevator and Layne would start imitating the elevator music in a mocking way, but those there would be blown away because it sounded so beautiful. There was a band where the lead singer overdosed and two members then joined Pearl Jam - but it wasn't Alice in Chains. That band was another Seattle band called Mother Love Bone. In 1990 their lead singer Andrew Wood overdosed and guitarist Stone Gossard and Bassist Jeff Ament then formed Pearl Jam. Mother Love Bone were awesome as well - they have one album (Apple) and one EP. Very promising future and very tragic about Andy Wood. Another interesting fact: Andrew Wood was roommates and best friends with Chris Cornell from Soundgarden. After Andrew died Chris wrote the songs that were on the Temple of the Dog album - that band was a one-off that included Chris Cornell and Pearl Jam, including Eddie Vedder on the lead single Hunger Strike.
@pmck63363 жыл бұрын
It was Andrew Wood of Mother Love Bone that passed away, and the members then brought in Eddie Vedder and formed Pearl Jam. Mother Love Bone released their debut album a couple days after Wood passed. Great album... you should review the song "Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns". The band Temple of the Dog put out a self-titled tribute album to Andrew Wood. Temple of the Dog consisted of the Mother Love Bone Band members, plus Eddie Vedder and Chris Cornell (Woods roommate) from Soundgarden on vocals. Check out Hunger Strike from Temple of the Dog. You reviewed Chris Cornell covering Prince "Nothing Compares to you". The connection with Alice In Chains is that this song "Would" is a tribute to Andrew Wood. It's written by AIC guitarist Jerry Cantrell who was a good friend of Andrew's. All of these bands were part of the same scene in Seattle.

Great intro graphics and production value! Just found ya'll bc I'm an AIC fan. Immediately taken by Asia and repping the Braves!!! Looking totally pro with the background, shirts, and cans. RIP Layne Staley. He put his soul into it. You're dead on - Unplugged really shows the impact of addiction. The voice is there but he isn't. Appreciate ya'll!!!
