I knew you would love this. “Why Don’t We Fall in Love” is another good song, I think you’d like. Amerie is a fantastic artist. Unfortunately the sound in this song was a signature sound she curated for herself, along with her producer, that paid homage to her DC roots with the classic DC Go-go music influence. Unfortunately, Beyoncé liked the sound so much, she hired Amerie’s producer to make” Crazy in Love” for her, which sounds very similar. Amerie’s label didn’t even want to put out “ 1 thing”, she leaked it herself and it blew up. Amerie subsequently lost her producer to Beyoncé, and was somewhat pushed out of the industry. Although, she continued to make music, she no longer had access to the top producers. She still puts out music and tours occasionally. She has a family now, and is a published author and has a fantastic Booktube channel. She has good taste in books. If you’re a reader check out her channel.

This is not true. Rich worked with Beyonce BEFORE Amerie and Crazy in love was out 2 years before 1 Thing. Now, Amerie did fall off but that is because she could NOT perform this song live or any choreography like Beyonce in or out of Destiny's Child. Saw them both at this time on TRL tour in the day, and Beyonce just outperformed Amerie, it was a blowout, football terms 55 to 0. Song is great, a banger and video is on point. Live nope.

"1 Thing" is the lead single from Amerie's second album, Touch (2005); it's also the only single from the Hitch soundtrack. The song peaked at #8 on the Hot 100 and #1 on the R&B singles chart, becoming her first top-10 single and her biggest to date. The remix features Eve and you should listen to that also, Eve kills it. please react to Amerie - "Why Don't We Fall in Love."

Ameries had this sound since 2001, she’s a DC girl and that’s where go-go originates, and she’s spoken many times about her and rich Harrison creating beats at her house while there. Also, amerie started her career 2 years before bey went solo. Why don’t we fall in love was the first gogo R&B fusion to be successful, followed by crazy in love. Beyoncé most definitely took inspiration and I’d even say stole ameries style/sound with her song green light. The music video is basically the same, and she even stole Amerie’s ‘noooh’

@@nenyaskeeper Rich Harrison had been trying to push 1 thing to Sony 2 years before Crazy in love, but Sony kept stonewalling him coz maybe they wanted to give the sound to Beyonce and JLo.. so while the public heard it after Crazy in love, the label (and Beyoncé) heard it before it was released.

Amerie is amazing and should have been more famous (also she is half Korean). This song was the title song of the film “Hitch” starring Will Smith and Eva Mendes in 2004 or 2005. “Why don’t we Fall in love” and “Paradise” with LL cool J are also really nice tracks you should review 😊

Some music industry trivia for you... "1 Thing" was produced by Rich Harrison (record producer) for Amerie (who was brand new on the scene at the time), but when her then record label (Columbia Records) heard the track, they liked it so much and wanted the song for another artist on their label, who at the time was already huge on their label: Jennifer Lopez (aka J-Lo). But Harrison felt that the song was best fitted for Amarie, and wanted it to be her breakout own mega hit (which it was). So he shopped the track around to the radio stations, and had the DJ's put Amerie's recording on constant rotation. The public loved the song, and already got so used to it being a song by Amarie, that her label could no longer have hopes for the song going to J-Lo. Rumor has it that the label didn't take too kindly to them shopping out the record to the radio DJ's and clubs behind their backs, and so the label stunted Amarie's career, by not promoting her more like they could have. At least that's what I heard in a documentary saw about her. :)

It's true. The label was going to choose between Amerie, Rihanna, and Teiarra Marie. The label's top choice was Amerie, but Beyonce told them to consider Rihanna since her sound was so different, it wouldn't compete against Beyonce. That's why Rihanna's debut on the label was "Good Girl Gone Bad". They changed her image from a good girl to Bad girl Ri-Ri.
