Reaction to You ain't seen nothing yet by Bachman Turner Overdrive. What a tune!
And if that phrase was his invention he should have copyrighted it.He would own a private island now.
Fantastic song but the woman in question has a lot to answer to.

Randy wrote this song with his brother Gary in mind. Gary had a stutter and a stammer. Randy though he would add the stutter to tease his brother a little. I understand Gary was a bit terrified of the prospect. Randy's inspirations for the song was the guitar playing on the Doobie Brothers song, 'Listen To The Music'. As well as Traffic's 'Only You Know What I Know'.' You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet' was a massive hit for BTO. Take care Hari, RNB

Randy Bachman and his family were from my home town, Winnipeg Manitoba, Canada. The song was a warm up song, they used in the studio. Randy write it to teas one of his brothers who stuttered. He threatened to record it to further tease him. There was no intention of recording it. They found they were short one song when making their album. Their manager suggested using it. They recorded the song without the stutter, but realized it sounded better with the stutter left in.. It went to #1 on the US charts. Try “Taking Care of Business” and “ Let it Ride”….vocals by Fred Turner.

One of my favorite bands. Glad you found them. Roll on down the hiway is a must. Randy Bachman was also cofounder of Guess Who. Fred Turner the bassist sings many of their songs. Randy wrote this as a joke to his brother the drummer who had a stutter. Record executive s made them put it on a album and it was probably their biggest hit.

Randy wrote "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" as a joke about his older brother Gary who was at that time BTO's manager, Gary had a stutter, that's why Randy stuttered when he sang the song. It was used as a sound check song and was never intended to be released. When the "Not Fragile" album was recorded it contained the usual eight tracks, Mercury Records listened to the album but with the exception of "Roll On Down The Highway" they didn't think there was a suitable single on the album. Charlie Fach of Mercury Records asked Randy if he had another song, Randy told him the only other song was a joke about his brother Gary's stutter. Charlie asked to hear it and as soon as he heard it he declared it would be a smash hit. "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" was added to the "Not Fragile" album and it became BTO's first album to contain nine tracks. Charlie was right, Y.A.S.N.Y. was a global smash hit in 1974/75, it hit the number one spot in twenty two countries.

Hi, Harri. BTO is a revered Canadian group including iconic Guess Who guitarist/lyricist Randy Bachman. They had many rock hits in the early to mid-1970s with Takin' Care of Business their biggest. I'd be surprised if you had never heard it. It inspired Elvis to the point that it became his catchphrase (TCB) late in his career. As far as You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet, I've read that Bachman said he was inspired by The Who's My Generation and singer Roger Daltrey's stuttering in it to include it in this song. I think it's about a younger man with an older, more experienced woman. BTO was power chord rock before Boston. They could do blues-based tunes as well. Check out Blue Collar with singer Fred Turner. Also check out some of their other hits like Let It Ride, Roll On Down The Highway and the cheeky, catchy Gimme Your Money Please.

Hi Harri BTO are from my hometown of Winnipeg, Canada. Randy Bachman the lead singer's brother stutters and it started out as a joke but they decided to keep it in the song. Taking care of Business and Rolling down the Highway I suggest reacting to. Also Blue Collar which has a more jazzy vibe. Randy Bachman worked with Lenny Breau who was a leading Canadian jazz artist. You will see that influence also on Undun by the Guess Who when he was with them. I think you would enjoy both bands. Check out Albert Flasher by the Guess Who. Randy stayed to recoed the "Head On" and "Freeways" albums before he left BTO. "Freeways" was more like a Randy Bachman solo album with very little input from Fred, Robbie and Blair, most of the songs were written by Randy with the exception of "Life Still Goes On" (I'm Lonely) which was rwritten by Fred. Randy inrroduced a horn section on the "Freeways" album, uinforunately horns didn't fit in with the BTO sound and many of Randy's songs were sub-standard and it caused a rift between Randy and the other band members. After Randy left BTO in early 1977, Fred, Robbie and Blair recruited the former April Wine bassist Jim Clench, Fered moved from bass to rhythym guitar and that lineup recorde two albums, "Street Action" (1978) and "Rock & Roll Nights" (1979). Randy formed Ironhorse in 1979, they scored a minor hit with "Sweet Loui Louise".

@@davidmacgregor5193 5 seconds in on the "Head On" album and you realize this is not going to be a repetition of the two previous hard hitting albums. Have Randy ever explained why he abandoned the heavy and extremely successfull formula of "Not Fragile" and "Four Weeel Drive"? Randy's songs on the first Ironhorse album was actually good - especially this one, which is something of a throwback to "Not Fragile" and "Four Wheel Drive". I suspect the lyrics would not have been well received today, though... kzbin.info/www/bejne/ambJg6yMp9t6grM

I learned from an interview with Randy Bachman years and years ago that he wanted BTO to be a rhythm based rock band. But I didn't know until very recently that they were sharing a dressing room with the Doobie Brothers in New Orleans during Mardi Gras in the first half of the 1970s when he worked out some of "Let It Ride" and the Doobies then based "Long Train Running" on his guitar noodlings as he ironed it out. That is astonishing and good to know because the Doobies are one of my all time favourite bands! Randy said in that interview eons ago, back in the 1970s IIRC, that he wanted a band that was rhythmically similar to CCR and the Doobies. Killer rhythm was the thing back in the 1970s and is much too absent from today's music. And BTO has so many excellent lead guitar solos! 😉🎸👌 That "70s sound of guitar" comes from there not being many guitar pedals to alter the sound of the guitar at the time. So if you were going to be an excellent guitarist you had to have "touch" in your fingers. There are plenty of good guitar players around today but also way too many that bury the actual tone of their guitars underneath a ton of effects pedals. The really good guitar players around today will tell you to develop your own signature "sound" with your guitar before drifting off into "guitar pedal-land" and obscurity because you just sound like some over processed thing that no one can get next to in their heart and mind. The lead guitarist in this song was Blair Thornton from Vancouver. 🎸🎸🎸

The usual origin of the phrase is said to be "The Jaz Singer," which was the first film with synchronised sound. Al Jolsen, the star, says to the orchestra, "Wait a minute, wait a minute, I tell yer, you ain't heard nothin' yet." The film was released in 1927. Stuttering in songs was a big thing particularly in the 60's. I read where it was kind of mimicking the stutter of people on amphetamines. The best example of this was the Who's My Generation--why don't you all f-f-fade away. Am sure others can give you more examples.

Great track but for me, it's forever linked to Harry Enfield & Paul Whitehouse in their comedy sketch based on two ageing BBC Radio 1 DJ's in the 90's. They parodied DJ's who played music deemed to be 'too old' and refused to play anything (then) up to date. They called themselves 'Smashy' & 'Nicey' & would always end the sketch with the same thing: 'Lets Rock!...then put this track on, every time.

This song elevated stuttering to high art. Anybody makes fun of your stuttering? You tell them, "You ain't seen n-n-n-nothing yet!" But, seriously, the song was recorded as a joke, intended only for the lead singer/song-writer Randy Bachman's brother, who had a stutter. Their label producer heard it and loved it. Randy Bachman agreed to include the song on the album only if the band could re-record it *without* the stutter. But, Bachman said, "I tried to sing it normal, but I sounded like Frank Sinatra. It didn't fit." So, the band kept it the way it was, with the stutter. I can't imagine it any other way. It never would have been the hit is was without the fun, artistic, and necessary stutter.

Randy studderd in the song when they first recorded it. His brother robbie had a studdering problem who is also in the band. Randy thought it would be funny to studder in the song while first recording it. It wasn't intended to be in the final cut. But the record company liked it so much that they told them to leave it in. Even though robbie probably didn't like it ? The album went on to sell millions of copies. I bought one! I would not recognize ain't seen nothing yet without the studdering. Lol.

Apparently the stuttering was a joke, as the singers brother had a stutter. He wanted to rerecord the vocals without the stutter, but the rest of the band said no.

I dont recall all the details on this song other than it was a spoof he would sing about a stutterer he knew. Others convinced him to record a proper song out of it. Baughman was also in a group called Ironhorse where he did a stuttering follow-up called "Sweet Lu-Louise". Solid track that was a minor hit.

would love to see you react to some Roxy Music Harri, try "A song for europe", "Out of the blue", "Editions of you", or if you're up for a 2 and a half minute intro "Sentimental fool".
