Every song by Bread tells a story that goes right to the heart. To me this song is about an aging guitarist who refuses to quit even though he's not pulling in the crowds anymore and can't sing like he used to. Sometimes it's painful to watch singers who once were in their prime but try to keep recreating that in old age.

Guitar solos are by session musician Larry Knechtel of the famed Wrecking Crew, a group of session musicians - LA's version of the Muscle Shoals Swampers. Larry played keyboards, guitar, bass, harmonica and worked w/Elvis, Beach Boys, Doors, Grass Roots, Mamas & Papas, etc. He won a grammy for his piano work on Simon & Garfunkel's 'Bridge Over Troubled Water." I've liked "Guitar Man" since it was released back in the early 70s. Apparently many other people like it as much as I do.

Besides hearing songs that are new to me, or seeing live performances I've never seen before, or, hearing a song like this that I haven't heard in more than 40 years and learning who the band is that played it!! It's a two-way street for me, Steven. So thanks for having the courage to start your channel and show us your beautiful mug almost every day. It's nostalgia, memories and also hearing and seeing new things. That's what I get. But having someone who knows what they're talking about when it comes to the music is also so important. Another great reaction,Steve--thanks so much! Think I've already suggested a few other songs on one of the other vids- some of the more upbeat, poppy ones. Most fans think of them as this soft, ballad band. But they were much more--in fact, they broke up due to musical differences mostly due to Gates hitting big with these ballads. THe other guys didn't want to be pigeon-holed as a soft rock act only,so this album was the last one until they reunited a few years later for one more great album called 'Lost Without Your Love' (their final hit and-- a ballad). Looking forward to more by them...dive in,bro! Cheers, T

Thanks! Had to hit you up on this one, Steven. My godfather, John, embarrassed me as a teen by bringing his guitar to every function, and my friends were like, "Oh guitar man is here again." He did try to teach me every instrument, took me home to Nashville, and taught me all about good lyrics and storytelling. He really was awesome.

I agree as many musicians will. There is no better feeling than playing music in a band, orchestra, or otherwise. Best time in my life was playing drums all through HS, especially as lead snare section leader in HS marching band, kicking off all the songs and cadences with my 4 rim shots. I guess the sheer feeling of sort of controlling the whole band. I was so lucky to be lead snare and give those 4 rims shots marching in 2 NYC St Patrick Day parade down 5th Ave and the Miss America parade on the Atlantic City boardwalk. I also was drummer in our HS stage band for the senior plays for 3 years. Then also have my own rock band. Now 65 and still have my original Rodgers/Slingerland drum set. Not played much, life happens but since I still remember every drum/percusión part of our marching band cadence, I want to replicate and record it to post YT. Yeah, great honest review here of truly a defining band from the 70's. My time as a teen to young man.

I'm the kind of person who just has to sing! If I hear a song I know, I just have to sing along. Sometimes it drives my wife crazy if we're out shopping and I start singing along with a song on the PA system, but singing is in my blood! I don't know why, but I've just always had a passion for it. I never had the opportunity to be in a band, but I always wanted to. I guess you could say that it's why I have my channel. It gives me an opportunity to hear what it would sound like to sing in a band. I don't expect to get famous doing it. I just try to do them the best I can, as close to the originals as I can. It's part of my perfectionism.
