I just saw them live and they've been touring with BUSH. Ben talked about how BUSH was a big influence growing up. I agree with the assessment that BB has a lot of grunge influence on their sound, mixing in rock and a fair bit of Metal influence as well. Music is a beautiful thing.

Breaking Benjamin is one of my favorite bands. I recommend The Dark of You off of Ember, its my favorite song of theirs, but I don't think they make a bad song. On an unrelated note, you should check out Babymetal - Monochrome (Official Lyric Video).

Breaking Benjamin is classified as alternative metal. Metal incorporates hard riffs, guitar solos and growling/screaming. Alt metal takes those tropes and incorporates melodic singing/instumentation into the mix. Hard rock would be bands like Fuel, Nickelback, Audioslave, or Lifehouse, where there's far more focus on the melody and hardly any of the metal tropes. The two subgenres are essentially mirror images of one another. Perfect inverse. Both obviously fall under the huge parental umbrella of rock music. Just goes to show how music has evolved over the years.
