This performance added a lot of meanings that made it special. The rare illness that kept her off the stage for 4 years. The song, what the lyrics mean and what it also means to her to have lost her husband. Return, in that way, in such an iconic place. It is an emotional burden that not everyone can overcome. I grew up in Quebec in the 80s and 90s. I love Celine - for quebecers she feels almost like a member of our extended family, This performance was very moving to watch live. Realizing after the fact that she did not sing it live was fine - it didn't change the experience for me. If you watch her documentary, it's clear that she wants to deliver for her fans above all else - and she is almost ashamed that her voice has permanently changed. She just wanted it to be amazing for her fans. And it was. Truth is important. This was a recorded performance - this has been proven beyond doubt. Let's not pretend it was something it wasnt, but just appreciate it for what it was.

Have you listened to what they’ve done to her voice on her re released greatest hits album? They have totally destroyed her beautiful voice by pitch correcting her vocals on the new album. Fil, on Wings of Pegasus devoted a whole episode to Celine and pointed out the difference between some of her old hits and how they sound on the rerelease. They basically took the emotion completely out of her singing with pitch correction. Check out Fil’s channel, he does vocal analyses of many different artists, especially from the past, I think you’ll really enjoy what he has to offer.

You do realize Celine is lip syncing to a pitch corrected pre recorded track. There’s even a cellphone recording from the previous night of her rehearsal. Do really think as sick and frail as she is, under those conditions,with all that water and electricity running through those cables, they’d run the risk of some electrical malfunction or her microphone cutting out in front of a telecast of a billion people? Go to Wings of Pegasus for Fil’s technical analysis of Celine’s courageous performance. Even most of her most avid fans realized that in her physical condition, she couldn’t have sung this pitch corrected song, even in her best days!
@sueblack-garland67432 ай бұрын
Seriously, who even cares whether it's 'corrected' or not. (Every singer has the option of correcting minor vocal flaws.) Wings of Pegasus takes great joy in pointing out flaws as if singers aren't human beings. Again, who cares if it's not 'perfect'? If it moves you, it's good. The true inspiration with Celine is that she DID this song, and it sounds amazing. Kudos to her.
@kerrythomas62202 ай бұрын
@@sueblack-garland6743 You miss the whole point in what he does. A singers natural voice is so much better than the pitch corrected crap we have to listen to. He gets no joy in pointing out “flaws” and is constantly saying he much prefers a singer’s raw vocal to the pitch corrected perfect version. The problem is, Celine was presented to the world as singing this live, when anyone with an IQ above the level of a chimpanzee, knew that couldn’t possibly be true, especially considering the weather conditions and the state of her health. How dare you question the ethics of one of the only honest people in the music industry today!

Exactly, it happens all the time these days and as you say, there's no way they would take a chance on such a big occasion including her voice breaking on the high notes. In fact, it's pretty obvious when you watch her acting the role although it's well done. Some people have cognitive bias and don't want to accept that this is not live as it spoils their expectations and would involve taking Miss Dion down from the high pedestal that they put on for this moment. (Not doubting her voice in her prime of course) Wings of Pegasus is very switched on and is spot on with his observations, however, if we suspend belief for a few minutes, I'm sure we can accept that it was a dramatic and emotive "production".
