I DON'T BELIEVE SHE WAS "CO-SIGNING" HIS BEHAVIOR AS MUCH AS I BELIEVE THAT SHE WAS JUST MAKING IT CLEAR "BETWEEN AFRICAN AMERICAN FRONT RUNNING 🎵🎶 MUSICAL ARTISTS"....THAT IT WAS EITHER NONE OF YOUR DAMNED BUSINESS "IF" THAT THE WAY YOU'RE GONNA PUBLICLY "HANDLE OR FURTHER DISGRACE" HIM WITH THE INFORMATION BETWEEN AFRICAN AMERICAN ARTISTS. BECAUSE. IT WASN'T A SECRET. SHE IS NOT ONLY "TALENTED AND VOCALLY GIFTED"....CHAKA KHAN AND THAT FUNK. THAT POWERFUL VOICE. THAT DELICIOUS SMILE. HER RHYTHMIC🪘POWER OF EXPRESSION. If there was a Mt. Rushmore of female singers, Chaka would be there with Aretha, Patti and Whitney. She has the power to drive a funk groove and the sweetness to sing a romantic ballad. Her range and dynamics are incredible. Like all of the other ladies I noted, Chaka sings with conviction, but she adds a freedom and fearlessness that makes her vocals unique and exceptional. Songs to check out: Masterjam, Once You Get Started, Sweet Thing and Everlasting Love with Rufus, then I'm Every Woman, Feel For You and her cover of Stevie Wonder's Signed Sealed Delivered as a solo artist. There only one Chaka Kahn!

What makes this song so affecting is that it stays in the middle place. It's understated. It doesn't hit a lot of highs. The driving cadence of the music, with Chaka's complementary phrasing, fully conveys the feeling of being passionately, emotionally merged, intertwined with someone. This song IS passion. It doesn't need to do a lot. In music, when it's done well, less is more.

@@Tes7000 I respect your opinion. I will say she wasn't at her best vocally at the funeral but there were moments of magic and the people present enjoyed her performance. Black people love and respect Chaka and she was and still is a legend as you acknowledged.

@@dwayneduncan5934 Oh, absolutely! She was and is a legend. Though I described the performance as partly a hot mess, I loved every single minute of it. I think Chaka was a little lit, and she got off to a rough start -- plus reading the lyrics to Going Up Yonder off the back of her fan was a whole mood -- but everybody was shook when she did that octave jump at the chorus. Truly magical indeed.

You did make some fair points though. I think it's all the drugs she took back in the day that destroyed parts of her voice. I saw her live in London 3 years ago and she wasn't at her best then either but still good. Jennifer Holiday killed it with Climbing Higher Mountains at the end of the funeral. Arethas father could sing. Theres a video of him singing that song here on KZbin and so many people have done good covers including a Japanese choir. That shows how far reaching Arethas influence goes. She was truly The Queen and the Japanese love western music and are very open minded as a nation when it comes to alot of things.
