Steeldrivers' "Sticks That Made Thunder" is a powerful song, told from the point of view of the trees that lined civil war battlefields that still stand today, and the things that they've witnessed.
@MythicFool2 жыл бұрын
I remember during a show they talked about seeing this big old oak tree on a hill overlooking the Nashville battlefield, and wondering just what this tree saw, and how it would make sense of the battle.
@scottrackley4457 Жыл бұрын
@@MythicFool I'm pretty sure that tree is in Chickamauga Battlefield. There is a massive cherry tree along a bike path there, everyone knows where it is.

I second this, it's hard to find a bad Steel drivers song; but Can You Run is absolutely one of their best!
@cavecookie12 жыл бұрын
@@galacticbob1 This is a funny story...There is another young African American music reactor, can't remember who, now, who did "Can You Run". In his defense, I think the fact that because it was Bluegrass, and probably a genre he was unfamiliar with, he was more focused on the music (which he called Square dance music, and liked!), and completely missed the lyrics, which in this song especially, are SO vital to the whole experience. That poor guy got flayed in the comments! I hope he went back and listened again, and maybe he learns to hear the whole songs in the future! Kids; what are ya gonna do? LOL!

Back in the day, you could go to the The Station Inn in Nashville and hear The Steeldrivers on a weekly basis. It's such a tiny place, no advanced tickets, about $10, cash only, seated only a few feet from the stage. I'd go there, grab a slice of pizza and a Coke, relax, & enjoy some Chris Stapleton vocals & great bluegrass music. I love Ghosts of Mississippi by the Steeldrivers. Also, if you have not yet heard his live "Barely Alive," you should check it out. Audio isn't great, but it doesn't matter much as his voice carries just fine. It's a song he sang when he was with the Steeldrivers, but the live version of him doing it solo in a bar (I think) is the best version of it IMO. Thanks again, love watching your reactions. Especially Chris Stapleton. Have a great evening! - Chelsea Edit: I realized later that Barely Alive was from when he was in the Jompson Brothers. Sorry, I forgot! :)
