This... was superb. SUPERB. Dani Filth has a unique thing with his voice that I really enjoy, in that he can create two distinct tones with his voice at the same time in certain areas. I had the pleasure of seeing them live and I gotta say... impeccable. And yeah, the false fold constriction can allow for actual notes to poke through. I've managed to be able to do it myself to some extent, but I have yet to do any successful recordings that sound consistent enough. So happy for this! This is the real Cradle of Filth. Nymphetamine is a song later released. It is more of an entry point to Cradle whereas this is the sound Cradle is known for. When they finish playing Nymphetamine love Dani usually jokes ok now that we got that out of the way let's speed it up. Cradle is considered Black Metal and they have gruesome lyrics however Dani has said he writes his lyrics from a place of love. He always has a romantic tone in his word usage. I'm so glad you did this. Please do more Cradle of Filth. "The Death Of Love" is one that combines a softer tone of Nymphetamine with the sheer beauty of this song. I love Cradle of Filth and I love both of your breakdown of one of my all time favorite songs.

The only thing even remotely black metal about cradle is the "corpse paint" my friend. Even in their earliest days they were nothing like black metal. Way too much melody. Way too much production to be even loosely considered "black metal". COF is basically a gothic theatrical melodic death metal band.
@Lilliathi Жыл бұрын
@@chrismiller643 Death metal? How? It's way more like black metal than death metal. It doesn't have to literally sound like Darkthrone, Mayham, or Immortal to be black metal. "Gothic theatrical melodic black metal" would be a way better description.
@chrismiller643 Жыл бұрын
@@Lilliathi "Melodic Black Metal" huh, maybe you're right. I never thought such a thing could exist. Maybe I was a bit harsh there. And maybe a bit too rigid. I still feel, though, that the fundamental qualifiers of black metal are unmelodic and low/no production quality. It's supposed to sound like the music of a corpse. The earliest black metal bands kind of set it up rigidly and accepted no deviation. I don't agree with that way of thinking but they were definitely intent on rigidly setting themselves apart from the other forms of metal out there. I still don't hear black metal when I listen to CoF but now I don't really hear death metal either. I feel like they're a mixture of several forms of metal (and even a tiny smidgen of pop somehow thrown in there) that inspired them. I've seen them live a couple of times years and years ago. Went to see them in Cincinnati with arch enemy on their nemphetamine tour and the show got canceled before CoF went on because a security guard stabbed a guy in the head inside the venue. A huge fight broke out and my gf even narrowly dodged a flying chair that soared past her head. The guy didn't die but as we evacuated the club we saw about a 3 foot circular puddle of blood on the floor that drained out of dudes head. Pissed that we didn't get to see cradle but that was the most metal thing I ever saw.... Pure Fucking Metal!!!!!!!

Fun story. In highschool I had a phase where I mostly listened to this band. I was the kind of kid who was home alone all the time, so I had plenty of time to practice vocals Anyway I actually managed to scream literally 100% like old Dani vocals. It was such a fun screech to do that I spooked people with it and would do the weird talking thing with it and would just randomly erupt into a long screech. It was so fun However that was a huge mistake. Dani lost his voice for a reason. It took months to condition my voice to where I could readily do that type of screaming, and that was damaging. You really do whistle that scream through your tightened throat. So I eventually had to stop. I still know how to do it, but I'm thankful that when I try it doesn't come out right and I give up instead of "breaking in" my vocal chords for one particular style
@toreyzyre2 жыл бұрын
I'm really thrilled Elizabeth in particular heard this version of Dani. She reacted to a very recent live version of Nyphetamine in which Dani's voice had degraded alot, and he sounded sadly like a shadow of his former self. Makes me wonder how much of the screeches he's so known for earlier in his career were done safely versus not seeing how he sounds now.
@griefforest18702 жыл бұрын
Perhaps the recent live version is due to the long touring break? I saw them in 2018 and looked up 2019 and he was still screaming up a storm. I‘d say his peak was between 93-04, but since Hammer he screams more and he also perfected his midrange which now has a very distinct sound. He‘s going toward 50, I‘m still glad they are still going strong.

At this stage of his career he was still heavily drinking and smoking, at Nymphetamine he had stopped smoking, after which he stopped drinking heavily. I believe he is completely sober in all ways now which has helped his voice recover and he can now do high screams again.

Well, you can have different goals. In singing we have a lot of sustainability- focus by tradition. But All styles have varying degrees of wear and tear, I believe. For many extreme styles you could argue they don't do it right if they have vocal degradation, or you could argue that they, just like professional athletes in sports, are going to the edge of human capabilities and are willing to pay the price. His voice was one of a kind and held up for many years. That's the same for many elite athletes in sports who usually quit due to injuries and and general loss of performance. Also, he can still kinda do it :p

They are one of the earlier bands who pioneered symphonic metal. Their most popular album is probably Vovin, which is sometimes referred to as an album by the founder of the band Christofer Johnsonn, as he wrote almost, if not all of it. I don’t know that I can quite find the best words to describe the awesomeness of this reaction, but I will try. First, the choice of song, as I’ve been a Cradle Of Filth fan for many years. This track is one of my faves of all. In my view they take extreme black metal and give it a uniquely Gothic twist. No other metal bands can quite offer everything they bring to the table. And then, that Dani’s wildly veering vocal details were pinpointed so well- though I know to expect nothing less from you stellar ladies. And that is yet another point to make, that such renowned women of the voice were in full costume and makeup, as well as in character for this reaction. A superb way to honor Halloween. Only to add, as far as my own knowledge of their material goes: yes, Dani does layer his vocal tracks in the studio, such as a low growl under a high scream. But just the same, it’s true that he also can employ his broad range live on the spot, as well. And, to my own ears, I have heard his pitch soar above falsetto at times on their albums. Regardless, the total span of his voice is immense. Thank you so much, ladies, for an absolute Halloween vocal treat.

Sad to hear that you've missed the best part of this lovely poem. Dani is quite the lyricist. That last verse and chorus that's missing from the video version is a payout is a crime to miss. Gives closure to the piece. Edit: From memory. "She was Erzulie possessed Of a milky white skin. My porcelain yin. A graceful angel of sin. And so, for her, The breeze stank of sunset and camphor. My lantern chased her phantom and blew Their chapel ablaze and all locked in to a pain Best reserved for judgement that their bible construed. Putting reason to flight Or to flame unashamed. I swept from cries, Mesmerized By the taffeta ley Or her hips that held sway Over all those at bay Save a mist on the rise A final blessing to hide Her ghost in the fog. And I embraced Where lovers rot Her ghost in the fog. Her ghost in the fog" The pre-Christian sense of justice of burning down the church with everyone in it, both the perpetrators and the ones that knew and did nothing about it just gives the story an ending that's very clearly missing from this version.

So poetic, he is as if an English literature professor had heard the call of Cthulhu, gone mad, and created one of the most epic bands ever!

Julia this Halloween character is great! You could give this character a name and do reactions like this as well! I mean, this was a character right? Right?! xD Or maybe this is you a little tipsy? hmm... lol Anyways, great reaction and great to see you together with Elizabeth doing your tag team!

Haha, could be tipsy, could be the character, could be both lol.

Huzzah! I'm glad to see you react to Dani in his prime. The last reaction was a more recent performance and he is sadly not able to hit everything like he used to.

Dani Filth one of my all time favorite vocalists and my 1st ever Black Metal introduction band back in the day. I still have all their albums. In my opinion Dani Filth just might be the greatest lyricist of all time, Dio is the greatest Metal voice of all time.

Fantastic that Vampire Julia is back! I'm glad you did another video with Elizabeth while in the states. Well done Justin. 😁 A cool... Filthy video. Bwahahahaha!

For a nice peak at Dani's voice power, I highly suggest Bathory Aria (remastered version) to both of you. It's long, it's amazingly written (both musically and lyrically), and has way less layering on the voice tracks so you can enjoy Dani's voice a lot more 😉

Omg!!! I didn’t even realize this was Julia.. it was just playing and I didn’t read until the end! I was completely blown away when I realized.. I mean like a totally different person! Bravo!

We need more of this dynamic duo! Also I'm sure someone has pointed it out so far, but for some reason, the music video cuts out the last like two minutes of this song. You should definitely take a listen to the full version to see how the story ends!

I wept till tears crept back to prayer... you just gotta love Danni! To me it sounds he rec high and low screams, nothing more... very well done btw... and you must listen to original version, this is quite shortened
@whothetank39762 жыл бұрын
@24:22 i'm so happy you realized he isn't layered he does make all the sounds at the same time. I always thought it was layered as well till i saw him live and he was just talking doing that and hearing him do all his screams live is amazing

Oh CoF, how fond are the memories! Seen them live once, and yes Dani is really short and i was an early teen! To think at that time, this was one of the "hardest" metal bands.... Until i saw The Black Dahlia Murder live. Don't get me wrong, CoF is still one of the best acts that i've ever seen!

The one time I seen them live i thought that too.

OMG! This is great. I have been watching both of you a lot the last couple of weeks because my new favorite hobby, watch the reactions of first time viewings of the Jinjer "Pisces" video. I like the way both you do reactions and watched many more of your videos. I wasn't expecting to see both of you in a video together today, and it couldn't have been better. Loved the choice to watch Dani and his Cradle of Filth.
@robertnelson23452 жыл бұрын
That was unfortunately a shortened version of the song. It was about to kick it up notch before it stopped. But still amazing song and yea Dani kicks so much ass. I love his energy.

Cracking collab, also incredible British accent Julia! Also Dani Filth is known for multi-layering his vocals in studio recordings. If you watch a live performance of a song you know, you will most definitely be disappointed unfortunately!

@@dcmastermindfirst9418 Here we have a person who doesn't understand what the reactors were discussing whatsoever in the first place (octave range has nothing to do with any of the specifics they were discussing) trying to sound smart in responding to someone who also had no idea what they were discussing in an attempt to figure out the biological mechanism responsible for a specific layered harmonic, whom his very own smoothiest-brain moment - tossing out all of the terminology and concepts thereby, dumbing it down to the level of, "Danny mouth make sounds, dat why you hear sound!"
