I saw Darius live in 1998 at a local music fest here in Pensacola, Fl. He was the lead singer of a southern rock band called HOOTIE AND THE BLOW FISH. One of the best concerts Ive ever been to. There were about 20,000 people outside at that show.

@@mackmcnall they were totaly a soft rock band who happened to be from the south. By the mid to late 90's there were no legitimate "southern rock " bands coming out anymore. You're SKYNYRDS, ALLMANS, and CROSBY STILLS and NASHS were already classics by then. So with their southern influences, I would say they were the closest thing you were getting to southern rock. Actually, they are considered FOLK ROCK or ROOTS ROCK if you want to get technical, either way, I just know they were one of my favorite bands from the 90's. What was youre favorite song?

The Black Crowes were southern soul rock from the 90s. Collective Soul were southern pop rock from the 90s. Hootie was southern college rock if that makes sense.

I grew up with my Granny listening to Charlie Pride, he was a Black Country music artist back in the day. No one thought anything of him being black. Music is for everyone. You need to check out Charlie Pride. Darius Rucker is an amazing talent, cross over artist.

My favorite of Darius’ is It Won’t Be Like This For Long. Country tells it like it is and if there’s any emotion that you’re dealing with, this genre will bottle those feelings up and make music that will hopefully help you. I still listen to Metallica, Phil Collins, The Platters, The Commodores, Skid Row, Josh Groban, Luis Miguel, Lara Fabian, etc., but I find as I get older that my comfort zone rests in country with its relatable stories.

I am a fan of Darius, but I connected more with his music when he was with Hootie and the Blowfish. Let Her Cry is a good one. He also did an appearance with Darryl Hall (from Hall & Oats) on Darryl’s House. They did You Lost that Lovin Feelin. You hear more richness and soul in his voice in non-country songs, which I think you would appreciate.
