Darius Rucker's heart was always country...he's said it many times. He just joined a college band that happened to take off and then he was kinda obligated to stay within that genre for a while. Not that he resents the Hootie music but his heart was never 100% in it.

Jay, this wasn’t considered country in the 90s, it was a hit on the Pop and Adult Contemporary radio stations, but you’re right, if this song came out today it wouldn’t get played on pop radio, in my opinion. It would be a country hit if anything. And now Darius Rucker is indeed a country artist.

He wrote this song after listening to She Talks to Angels by The Black Crows. That's an amazing song.

Such a great band! You might have heard wagon wheel by Darius Rucker (the lead), its a great solo song he did. Also listen to their other 80s songs: hold my hand, only wanna be with you, time... good choice!

Darius is the only modern country singer I'll listen to. Why? I got hooked when we was with recording pop with Hootie. He's absolutely delicious in every fricken' way humanly possible. His voice, lyrics, chops, skin, face... Love this man!
