One of the reasons I really love Def Leppard is that they're a true 'band'. It's not all about Joe. Pretty much every member of the band is considered a focal point, they all get their stage presence out there, and they all are the show...not any one person. It's something I've always strived for in bands, and had only once or twice out of many, many tries. :-)

This song came out when I was in high school and my wrestling squad would always come out and work out before a meet to this song. We had it synchronized so that we were doing our running, pushups, stretches, and other exercises in full view of the other team while this song blared on the speakers. Many times they stood and stared at us so long it interrupted their warm-up and it quite frankly scared the hell out of them. I think this song probably got us 12-18 points in every meet that season. I was fortunate enough to see the Hysteria tour when it came to my city in the 80s. I can vouch that the concert was fantastic and pretty much looked/sounded just like this video. I agree with Jay that "Armageddon It" has a more "pop" sound than some of their out-and-out rockers, but it was still one of the best songs on this album. Not that there was a bad one on it. (The only one I am at all sick of 35 years later is "Pour Some Sugar On Me," simply because it was played nonstop on radio and in my opinion is the most formulaic song on Hysteria.) I recommend listening to the album in its entirety from start to finish, that's the best way to experience it. And that album really is an experience!

The footage from the video is pretty historic... taken from the live concert video "In the round, in your face"... It captured Def Leppard at a peak during the 'Hysteria' tour between 1988 - '89, which was also the last tour featuring original guitarist Steve Clark - the band's rock star, who sadly died in 1991 after a long battle w/ alcohol and drug addiction. A lot of Def Leppard songs are prominent from the 80's, but their work in the 90's and beyond should also be check out... songs like 'Tonight'... 'Desert song'... 'Work it out'... 'Promises'... 'Heaven is' ... 'Slang'... 🤘🤘🔥🔥

Not sure if y’all know this but one of the reasons Def Leppard is considered a hell of a great band with great members is because when Steve Allen had his accident in 1984 and lost his left arm, the band stopped touring. Even on the heels of their smash album Pyromania they just stopped everything and waited for him to recover fully rather than replace him. Allen came back to relearn his drumming an AMAZING 3 months later. He now uses a special pedal set that was developed to allow him to use one foot to drum the left HAND parts. Flat out miraculous all by itself. He plays barefoot now basically out of necessity because of the adaptations.

This video comes from their world tour during which they used the "in the round" like a Shakespeare play; something no other band had ever done before. They said it was an interesting but exhausting experience. So they wouldn't ever do it again. They had realized that at any given moment they would have their backs to some part of their audience. So they had to always be on the move to give everybody their money's worth by getting to see them, which, after all, was why they bought their tickets.

I LOVE watching your reactions. You two have such great chemistry together. Your smiles and how you groove to the beat of the music you listen to is obviously genuine.
