The drummer’s name is Rick Allen. He lost his left arm in a car accident New Year’s Eve 1984. He uses his left foot to play the parts his left arm would play. A true inspiration

I met Rick when covering a drum symposium he was a feature at. He talked with us on the crew more than anyone because we were just working stiffs, as he put it. A really majorly sweet human!

@@williambill5172That was(is) Rick!! Def Leppard played a show in Minneapolis/Bloomington, Minnesota on July 8, 1988. Since I live in Montana, that was the closest we could get. My bday is July 7th. A really great friend of mine said his Dad got him 4 tickets, 4 back stage passes. He said "I’m taking you with me, for your Bday”. Even tho his family was SUPER RICH, he got bullied a lot. One day, I beat the sh*t out of 2 guys, trying to stuff him in a locker. Best friends still to this day. Concert ROCKED. Back stage, we met them all. But Rick loved the “Bully story”. Told us of his struggles. Gave us a ton of signed stuff for my bday. Too kool!!

He, as well as the whole band are extremely well educated as well. Since he lost his arm he has been responsible for completely changing modern drumming through the many gadgets he has invented to assist himself on stage and in the studio. I believe he holds a couple dozen patents.

The kid jumping off his chair at 5:27 wearing a Broncos hat and holding a poster? That's me! I was 17 then and 54 now. Feels like yesterday. Fun fact: Def Leppard played "Sugar" twice that night at McNichols Arena in Denver because they were trying to get as much footage as possible for the music video. When Joe Elliott introduced the song the second time, he said, "Just go crazy again as if you're hearing it for the first time."

The drummer, Rick Allen, lost his left arm in a car crash in 1984 but continued to play with the band by retraining himself with a customized electronic drum kit. The band had taken a break from onstage performances until August, 1985 while Rick recuperated.

Rick Allen (the drummer ) told the band to find a new drummer and they said that they would either wait for him to get back to playing otherwise they would disband. That is some incredible friends He designed a completely different drum set that was electronic with foot pedals that could make the drum sounds that he was not able to do with a regular drum set.

Great reaction, most people unfamiliar with def Leppard that are doing a reaction of this realize that they've heard the chorus of this song before, its one of the biggest classic rock songs of all time, i still hear this song playing at football and basketball games, karaoke, you name it, i know it's heard at strip clubs, its surprising you haven't heard it, but they have so many great songs, "rock of ages" "foolin" "photograph" "love bites" "bringin on the heartbreak" i could go on and on, but this band has sold more than 100 million records!

Yeah, Rick Allens story is very inspirational. You should watch the video called VH1 Behind The Music Def Leppard. It explains it all. I remember there were many artists from all genres of music that were blown away by Ricks resilience and sheer talent. Few people can say they can play drums with one arm tied behind their back. Not to mention the mental health aspect of it. It makes you wonder if your "problems" are really that hard. Count your blessings!

Ashley, you have a beautiful singing voice! Wow! And I'm guessing that before you noticed the drummer's arm, you were referring to how short his shorts are when you asked where his clothes were? Those were just normal shorts in the 80s. We used to wear shorts that small in gym class, totally normal. You should see him when he still had both arms. He used to _only_ wear shorts onstage. No shirt, no shoes. He seems a little overdressed here, to me anyway. It just depends on what you're used to.

6:18-Never a great thing to lose an arm, But the new electronic drums you could sync to your own playing had evolved to where it did the trick for him. About his comfy look..saw Lionel Richie in 86'..HIs band all had sharp, slick suits on, except for the drummer.. Nike tank top, shorts and The New Air Jordans.( I've played enough gigs to tell ya it does get hot up there )
