Love Dire Straits. They are a great British rock band from the 70's-90's. Mark Knopfler is one of the best guitarists around. They have had so many hits including "Walk Of Life", "Brothers In Arms", "Money For Nothing", "Telegraph Road", "Romeo & Juliet", "Private Investigations", "Twisting By The Pool", "So Far Away" etc. They don't have a bad song.

Two people are mentioned in the song “Guitar George” and “Harry”. These are Australian musicians George Young and Harry Vanda who were in the band The Easybeats. George is the older brother of Angus and Malcolm Young from AC/DC. Young and Vanda produced the first albums of AC/DC and are sometimes lightly referred to at the ‘uncles’ of AC/DC. They also wrote for many other artists and had their own niche band - Flash and the Pan.

I'm 59 and remember when they burst onto the scene back then. They were so different and Mark Knopfler blew me away with his voice and more importantly his guitar playing. He was one of the major influences for me to pick up the guitar. And yes, I learned this song note for note rhythm, fills, and both middle and outro solos. It was my first song as a young guitar player that I studied and learned to play. Good memories.

I've heard so many reactors say they had lived under a rock for not knowing certain music. That 's not true. We all have limited amounts of attention and curiosity and yet there is so much more to this world than we know. I love this reaction to music channel thing! I think it could be the key to bringing us together again! Y'all are so pleasant to get to know and it thrills me that the younger generations are catching up on some great music! I am a 67 year old white, southern woman and it does my heart good to see so many black people getting into classic rock and old country music. I just wish more white young people would react to some good old Motown...like my son did when he was coming of age. (I think a lot of older white people are pretty familiar with Motown thanx to Soul Train and the like.) When I first became aware of Pentatonix several years ago I became fascinated by Mitch and I heard Scott say he had been fascinated by him when they were kids. I started watching their silly Superfruit videos and even though I had never judged or thought gay people were inferior to me because I know its not a choice...it JUST IS...watching them be so gay was quite shocking to my "under a rock" sensibilities. I'm so glad now that I was able to witness 2 people be so free to express their true selves...something I was not able to do very well when I was younger. I really do believe music reactions can bring the world closer together Don't listen to the haters and judgers. By the way thanx for Sultans of Swing...One of my Faves!

Mark Knopfler (lead vocals and guitar) is a seriously good songwriter, mom bought me alot of his solo material as birthday gifts etc,and i really liked it. Even if most of his solo songs are more of the slow storyteller type of songs, they are really amazing to put on if i just want to relax and take it all in,let the mind wander off somewhere. My 2 Uncles and my Mom of course put me onto theese guys from i was very young. Mark has very unique vocals, its almost like "talking-singing",a soft form for rapping, but it works with the songs and the sound of Dire Straits. Money For Nothing is theyr most known hit and carries a bunch of interesting information,im sure people will stand in line to give you, when that time comes. It will defintly have you rocking out more (and laughing of the video) Walk Of Life is to many theyr funniest video, another "laugh alot and vibe alot" type of song. Alongside this song right here, its considered theyr most known songs, but theyr catalog is HUGE,if you choose to do a deepdive into them. And as i somewhat mentioned above,Mark by himself has released several solo albums as well. Always such a laidback, genuine and wonderful guy in interviews. He is known as "The Storyteller" of the rock world.

One of the great songs of the eighties. Mark Knopfler is one hell of a lead guitarist, singer and songwriter. There was still some good music in the eighties but after that it began a steady decline to where we are which is nowhere. Today's music blows, it sucks. Don't forget, I'm probably a tad spoiled growing up in the sixties and seventies. Yeah Dire Straits were a pretty tight band. Peace ❤❤

This is the radio edit version of the song. The original song is about twice as long. I see many suggesting the Alchemy version which is good as well. The original version is also good and both have different merits. Sometimes I want to listen to the original version and sometimes I want to hear the Alchemy version. Another song you should listen to is Tunnel of Love, live from Wembley in 1985. Imo, it's better than the original version. But if you decide to listen to the original version, stay away from the music video as it takes away from the beauty of the song.

The drummer might be named "Pick", but you'll notice that Mark Knopfler doesn't use one! That's why he was invited to play acoustic by Chet "Mr. Guitar" Atkins. (and also Tommy Emanuel) who are both top class finger pickers. Check out the video with him and Chet. And instrumental of them doing John Lennon's Imagine. Sooo beautiful!

Yeah another bit of irony trivia for ya, in ZZ top you notice the two frontmen in their videos, guitarist Billy Gibbons and bassist Dusty Hill, R.I P. now , Their trademark beards , but their drummer's last name was Beard and he was the one without one. 😀 The musical universe , What a trip !!
