Love Dire Straits. They are a great British rock band from the 70's-90's. Mark Knopfler is one of the best guitarists around. They have had so many hits including "Walk Of Life", "Romeo & Juliet", "Private Investigations", "Twisting By The Pool", "Money For Nothing", "Telegraph Road", "So Far Away", "Brothers In Arms" etc. They don't have a bad song.

A very nice reaction with some very accurate comments regarding Mr Knopfler's finger picking technique. That looks easy but really to get those little details in that playing is actually more impressive than the end solo you missed out due to this cut short "official" video. But yes, as others have commented too...do check the Alchemy live version of this song...that is something else.

Mark Knopfler, the lead guitarist and singer, is a genius. Extremely talented guitarist, one of the greats. Check out their songs "Private Investigations" and "Brothers In Arms". Oh, and the concert they did in '92 in Nimes, France was epic! My favourite versions of their songs are from that concert.

That lead musician is Mark Knopfler, and yes, he's an extraordinary guitar player and storyteller. The band is no more as far as I know, but Mark Knopfler's solo work is amazing. His albums Shangri La and Sailing to Philadelphia are both outstanding and have some of the best storytelling songs I've ever heard. Please check them out sometime. If you want a recommendation for songs to start with, I'd say Baloney Again, Don't Crash the Ambulance, Boom Like That, or Song for Sonny Liston. I think it would be helpful for you to read up just a little on the background of the songs so you can appreciate the storytelling. Otherwise it will probably take a while and several listenings for what he's talking about to sink in. Keep up the good work! Love your reactions. A sultan is an old middle eastern ruler. Yep, same band (as "Walk of Life") and about a gazillion other well known hits comin' out of the '80s. My personal favourite, "Telegraph Road". A "Honky Tonk" is a style of Piano playing, related to blues and jazz, developed in the early 20th century (as far as I know). Also a bar/club named after "Honky Tonk" piano can be called Honky Tonk. So when you hear that "someone's playing Honky Tonk" it means they are playing the piano (in that style).

I'd recommend doing a review of the LIVE version!! It's even better!! LOVE the vibe too...In high school, my and friends and I would blast this song on the way to the ⛱ beach drinking blue Hawaiians!! 😆 the drinking was 18 then but we were 16 at the time oops! Ok you pronounced sultan correctly!! The definitation is a king or sovereign especially of Muslims. A honky tonk is like a country bar, rustic and rowdy. 😆 Excellent review!! Thanks for reacting to this.. great band from back in the day (they’re a contemporary of Queen); Dire Straits also played at the Live Aid concert in fact they played this song. Mark Knopfler is an amazing singer/songwriter, and a legend guitarist. Dire Straits is no longer.. but Mark still plays from time to time. PS - a Honky Tonk is a dive bar back in the day… with live music and dancing!

I highly recommended you listen to the late Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, this was the original band that Peter formed, naming it after Mick Fleetwood & John McVie in case he ever wanted to move on ! One of the great white British blues guitarists & singers.
