He actually means it like it's used in the Harry Potter universe (I think it's a defensive spell because they point their wand and yell "Stupify!"). This song is from Disturbed's first album. The rumor is, "Stupify" was written after David Draiman (the groups lead singer) wanted to date a Latina and her parents didn't like the way he looked and wouldn't let her date him. He was blown away by that experience. At least, that's the rumor. Also, David was trained to be a Cantor (strong singers in a synagogue), so his voice was professionally trained.

Disturbed's first album 'The Sickness' was an A-b*mb dropping back in 2000 during the 'nu-metal' era... 'Stupify' was the first single and MTV music video and it blew the doors open to more new millennium rock & metal bands... It was like a similar entry when 80's rockers Quiet Riot released 'Bang your head' on MTV in 1983 - new band, new sound, new scene taking off... Disturbed took off like a bullet and charted at #1 off the bat... 'Down with the sickness' was another major MTV single... and so was 'Voices'... The album eventually sold over 4 million copies in the US... 'The Game' was not a single, but became a fan fave. The original band was: David Draiman (vocals), Dan Donegan (guitar/ programming), Mike Wengren (drums) and Steve 'Fuzz' Kmak (bass)... hailing from Chicago. In 2005, Disturbed replaced bassist Fuzz w/ John Moyer (bass) until today. As far as the lyrics... David Draiman revealed that he wrote 'cryptically'... He said he wrote 'Stupify' about an experience w/ racism - he was dating a Latina (?) woman and their families objected to their relationship (Draiman is Jewish) which led to their breakup. One of the most powerful lyrics he wrote was the 2008 Disturbed single 'Inside the fire'... It was about his girlfriend who was addicted to he+++n ... He couldn't help her, so they broke up ... and she committed suicide soon after by overdosing. Dariman would perform onstage like Alice Cooper in the early days in a straightjacket and would be executed on an electric chair...

Awesome reaction, once again Polo..!!!!! If you haven't already heard this, you should listen to The Light. It is such a strong song and very emotional. I love songs that are super heavy with a dark message in the beginning and ends in a complete turn around and is full of uplifting messages. So give "The Light" a listen. You wont be disappointed. David Draiman is the singer, I've seen them twice live. Down With The Sickness was their break through track, came out in 2000. I'd also check out the song Numb, they just have too many songs that f*ckin kick ass.

Their first album, The Sickness, is one of my favorites - I love Violent Fetish. I love the cadence of it. It's the best music to get your agression out and bang your head. I see you haven't listened to any Judas Priest yet. Singer Rob Halford is the metal god of vocals. Victim of Changes really shows his range but the true banger is Painkiller.

This song is the one that brought them to my mind the main stage. I saw them at a fall jam in Houston when they were still pretty much an unknown band. David came out in a straight jacket to begin the set a played Stupified and they he rest is history.

Danny Donegan and my bf were in a band before Disturbed with 2 othet friends and a guy named Stacey on lead vocals . They played at small clubs all around Chicago.
