This is the song that changed music forever. Donna was so far ahead of everyone, bridging disco sensuality and the synthesizer revolution, Summer and producers/co-writers Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte not only crafted an international smash, they helped lay a path for synth pop, New Romantics, Italo disco, Hi-NRG, electro, house, techno, and more, influencing generations of pop, rock, and dance artists along the way. This song also proves that Donna was truly the best pop female vocalist, and artist. There are many great female vocalists, but none that had the effect on music as Donna did.

This song was and still is light years ahead of its time. First, you have Giorgio and his creativity with the moog synthesizer. Then you have Donna and her wanting to imitate that euphoria of the first time falling in love. The end result is the genius of I FEEL LOVE. 🔥🔥🔥🔥

This song was 30-40 years ahead of it's time in 1977, nothing was ever heard like this anywhere before . This was the synthesizer genius of Mr. Giorgio Moroder together with the sensual hynotic voice of Ms Donna Summer together . This song was techno before there was techno , it ushered in the techno, house music genre ! Still today, so many years later, it sounds out of this world , a modern syth. dance classic, a masterpiece !

This was groundbreaking when it was released. Apart from Kraftwerk in Germany, no one was using electronics so heavily. Even Gary Numan and Tubeway Army hadn't gone electronic yet!

I Feel Love was truly groundbreaking music. Officially released in 1976, this Midnight Special performance has been obviously dubbed with the real studio recording along w the "video" edit. To create an ethereal soundscape, Giorgio Moroder (producer and engineer) had Donna sing this like an "aria" (an operatic singing technique) where the (soprano) singer sounds like a proverbial siren. Moroder would not only produce Summers next 3 albums, he also recorded the movie soundtrack for the controversial film, "The Midnight Express" in '78. And while this song is intensely erotic and sensual, there was no wild dancing for most female artists back then. Women tended to have some sense of decorum, and not dance like strippers!

There was no official music video for this groundbreaking and iconic 1977 song at the time of it's release. Last month an official video was released on YT featuring some bad AI generated animated dancers (it's not worth watching). The video you reacted to is a fan-made mashup of two live performances. The audio of those live performances was removed. The video was then overlayed with the studio recording of the song. That repeating synth pattern was not played manually on the record and the guy sat at the keyboard in the video is not reproducing that sound live. Those two live performances (both totally worth watching), with the original audio intact, are here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nWXRdWRon7yioKs and here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGHLaYOgm5mphK8

The synth bassline was recorded with a 1/4 note delay, so it was actually played twice as slow as what you hear. Also - how's this? Donna Summer was a German national. Chaka Khan said she was the only other Afro-American woman she could converse with in fluent German.

It’s 1977. Brian Eno and David Bowie are busy making Heroes in Berlin. One day Eno dashes into the studio excitedly brandishing a newly released 7” and rhapsodizes to Bowie, “This single is going to change the sound of club music for the next 15 years.”
