Anything off of, 'The Allman Bros. Band Live At Fillmore East 1971. If you want the birth of Southern Rock mixed with Blues and a dollop of Jazz drizzled on top this is the album. If you want the cream of the crop then the 22:59 version of 'The Whippin' Post' is your piece Pecan pie with whipped cream. The Eagles - they're all vocalists. They didn't really have a lead vocalist. Their harmonies are everything... and they way the guitars weave in and out of each other... Some of the greatest musicians of that generation on one stage - 3 of them went on to have great solo careers after they broke up.

Glen Frey and Don Henley are really the only ones to continue as soloists from the original. Randy Meissner's mental illness really set in, Bernie Ledon wasn't really into fame and the trappings. Joe Walsh had a solo career established before their mutual manager brought them together. Although Don Felder was largely responsible for the music of Hotel California, his success alone wasn't that great. Timothy Schmidt put out a couple albums but Henley and Frey had the most success

This is the music I grew up on. The Eagles were a great 70's band with so many hit songs. They were known for their great harmonies. "Take It Easy", "Witchy Woman", "Desperado", "Already Gone", "Best of My Love", "Lyin' Eyes", "Take It to the Limit", "New Kid in Town" etc. Before they went solo they were the back up band for Linda Ronstadt.

Linda Ronstadt----hmmmmm someone I know has been asking you to go down the rabbit hole?? Do you have any idea who??? And more 70s eagles. Drummers who sing same time is Phil Collins of Genesis. Took over lead singer- a d stopped drumming. One of tbe great ones. Yes to play drums and sing is challenging...more 70s music . Must have more of my magical youth of music I still listen to 98% of the time. Top tier stuff

Funny you should say that everyone would know this guitar solo. I teach Sunday School and had a 5th grader who had started guitar lessons and really wanted to play for the class. We gathered all the kids from 1st grade to 5th grade to hear his solo. He started playing and all the old lady teachers were just smiling and swaying to the music but I knew the song right away. I sidled up to my assistant and whispered "Is that Hotel California?" and he whispered back, "yep". We rolled with it and had a great concert in church. We still laugh about that.

Joe Walsh is a guitar god, his sound throughout this song (and every one he plays) is singularly epic. Few guitarists have their own original sound that makes them immediately recognizable but he is one of them.

All the members of the Eagles could sing, so you may hear a different vocalist on another song. For instance, Randy Meisner sings lead on the song "Take it to the Limit" during this same concert. I think it was the best performance Randy ever did. Glen Frey and Joe Walsh also have a turn at lead. This was a phenomenal concert. I think the Eagles have purposely left the meaning vague, but it is generally understood to be a cautionary tale of the excesses that comes with success, especially in Southern California. That guitar solo at the end really soars when Joe Walsh joins in with Don Feldar. One of the best.

Look up the 1994 "Hell Freezes Over" live reunion concert - it aired on PBS & I think it's available. Like the name of the tour, the guys never intended to breach their artistic differences and get back together, but their vibe was still amazing, and it's so cool to see & hear how they still fit after time apart. Btw, I'm having such a good time watching you react to and appreciate "my" era's music! Thanks for making us 70's babies hear our songs again with fresh ears.

I looked at my friend and said “they are lip syncing .. they are fucking lip syncing!” And then Joe hit a clunker chord. Wrong horrible chord. Glenn could not stop laughing. Just thought of another artist to recommend - Joni Mitchell. There are videos of her performing one of her signature songs, Both Sides Now, when she was 23, just her and her acoustic guitar. Then around 2000, about 35 years older, Joni reimagined the song, transposed it down a third, as her voice had changed in those years, and set it with an orchestral arrangement. Both performances are great, and it's worth seeing them back to back to contrast them. To really appreciate Joni's musicianship, you should also watch her live performances of Amelia and Coyote from 1979, accompanied by an all-star jazz combo, including Pat Metheny on guitar and Jaco Pastorius on bass.

In my years I’ve seen many live shows. The best live shows are by those artists who are genuinely talented and don’t use the studio for enhancing their already pitiful talent. This is without a doubt so great, even though it has been played like a zillion times, still one of the most iconic songs from a handful of iconic tunes, from the modern music era. Start with an incredible melody, lyrics that are otherwordly, those voices, especially Don's, and the guitar playing (you're right, Walsh is a god), and you have a tune that few ever written can surpass. I think truly the Eagles are America's best homegrown rock band. Let's raise a glass to the 70s and to the southern California sound that decade made famous. Gotta go now, time to check out of my hotel...seems I can check out but I can never leave!!!!! PS-- It is one of the greatest of all time, BTW.

I listen to the live version of this song so much when the regular song plays I still say the live adlibs 🤣🤣 if someone put a gun to my head and said sing a song from start to finish without looking at lyrics this is one I'd be able to survive with! It's so good! The Eagles are definitely one of my all time favorites. Alll the members sing too! One of my favs from them "I can't tell you why" has the Bassist singing lead!

They ARE that great!!! Not just because of hearing this "recorded" live perfomance, but hearing them in person, in a freaking football stadium, in South Carolina, USA! They sound exactly the same, if not better!!! No auto tune necessary!!! They are the gods of harmony, and musicality!!!

Love them so much. 60’s/70’s/ 80’s we’re brilliants band groups. Great composers / Talented musicians /Guitarists like George Harrison ( first to introduced the Indian sitar in their music to the world) , Eric Clapton, too many to mention. Please react to Pink Floyd « The Wall » or Guns and Roses November Rain. Thank you.

I'm 71 and the EAGLES is the only rock concert I have ever been to. They were AWSOME. I saw them at an inside venue and let me tell you, most of the concert goers were tokin them doobies. The gray pall in the bldg was so thick you could barely see the band. BEST NIGHT EVER!!!!!!!

Before the time of auto tune lol they are a unique group in that almost all members are vocalists along with musicians. Don might be a “lead singer” but main vocals are different on all tracks. Legit talent

Hotel California is a metaphor of the underbelly of hedonism and chronicles the culture of excess, wealth, decadence, and self-destruction in the Southern California cultural milieu of the mid-1970s. 1969 is a reference to the end of innocence and the hippie/anti-war movement of the late sixties. Steely knives is a reference to Steely Dan. The Don Felder and Joe Walsh duet solo is epic.

Man, regarding THE BASS: I have the Japanese mini-LP SHM-CD Edition of the Hotel California album, and, in HD sound, THE BASS (and EVERYTHING ELSE) is clear as a BOOMING BELL. It's a powerful sonic experience, EVERY TIME. Thank you for the passionate reaction. Yes, Don Henley is KNOWN for THE VOICE and THE DRUMS, both on in the studio and the concert halls. Glenn Frey, the co-founding member of The Eagles (along w/ Don Henley), for decades, referred to Henley's voice as, "The Golden Throat". According to Henley and Frey, the lyricists of the song, "Hotel California" (in its own Satanic way) is about the dark side of California (and Hollywood and the music business), and how everything that glitters isn't gold. Regarding Fleetwood Mac's live performances: "Silver Springs" , "Dreams", "Gold Dust Woman", "Rhiannon", "Big Love", "Over My Head", and "Landslide", all from THE DANCE (1997). England, We love you, From America. Thank you for giving Us The British Invasion...two times...The 1960s and The 1980s. P.S. I saw The Eagles live, in Summer 1996, during the HELL FREEZES OVER tour, on Long Island, NY. And, it was THIS GOOD, 20 years later. Quite possibly, the best concert I ever saw. Still have the tour souvenir t-shirt, and it still looks and wears great. P.P.S. The Eagles are VERY MUCH still performing, and still sound incredible, in their collective 70s. For proof, listen to: "One Of These Nights" live 2018, on KZbin. Henley and the boys still sound phenomenal.

I've got two performances that you need to see the live. Peter Frampton: Do You Feel Like We Do. The live version is the ONLY version of this song that needs to be seen. And if you are amazed by a drummer being the singer, check out Phil Collins doing In The Air live.

Another great live drummer singing is Levon Helms of The Band on Up On Cripple Creek in their Last Waltz tour. That concert, every song, is fabulous and featured the various artists they toured or played with over the course of their career. The Weight is especially good.

My dad told me it was about addiction. But he also said America’s horse with no name was about heroine. And a lot of others are about drugs and drinking. He is either right or thinks all 70s songs are about drugs.

George Michael and Elton John singing "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" is vocally phenomenal. Chris Stapleton and Justin Timberlake at the 2015 CMA awards "Tennessee Whiskey/ Drink You Away" band, vocals, harmonies, energy... off the charts. Phil Collins Live "In the Air Tonight" one of the most iconic songs of my generation, with a mesmerizing performance. kd lang "Crying", MTV Unplugged, her voice is perfection. Chris Stapleton "Whipping Post" (Kenny Greenberg channel) covering The Allman Brothers song has amazing vocals, unbelievable band and Duane Allman in the audience giving a standing ovation!! Billy Joel Live "New York State of Mind" from (Old Grey Whistle Test) the vibe is sooo cool, his voice at it's finest, piano playing flawless, and a sax player that will blow your socks off. Meatloaf Live "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" like watching a play with the most outlandish lyrics for it's time telling a fantastic story with amazing vocals.

I’ve seen live versions of this classic 25 years apart and they sound just as good later as earlier. That classic guitar at the end cannot be beat. I love Don Henley singing this;not only are the lyrics great but the expressions he adds are priceless. Fleet wood Mac is great to check out live;I once had the privilege to see them. Anything off of Rumours is worth your time. I wonder if you’ve checked out any Queen live? Their performance at Live Aid 1985 is not to be missed.
