He is in the COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME, R & B, BLUES, & Of course ROCK and ROLL, and the one that he treasured most,GOSPEL!!! He recorded over 900 songs and was in 37 movies. He had one record that went to #2 In the U.S.A. and #1 in the UNITED KINGDOM that was GOSPEL. IT is one of my favorite songs of his, it is "GOING TO THE CHAPEL" PLEASE play this for me! This is shortly before Elvis died. You can see he wasn't the same man. His physical health had deteriorated to the point, that it was just a matter of time. One of the nicest, and most generous people ever. He would give away new cars to poor folk, both Black and white. He bought poor families Homes, and he never told anyone what he was doing. God knew, and now we do too. Elvis was a very Godly man, despite his struggles with prescription drugs for over 40 years. He now sings just for The Lord. God Bless you guys Thanks

I don’t think it’s quite understood just how amazing Elvis’ backups were in their own respects and how they all jumped at the chance to sing/perform with this man. The sweet inspirations, one of them is Cissy Houston, Whitney Houston’s mom. JD Summers who is in the Guinness Book of World records for having the deepest singing voice, James Burton on backup guitar who is known as one of the worlds greatest guitarists that ever lived, Ronnie Tutt a beyond legendary drummer that is on par with the likes of Phil Collins in talent. These people all Elvis’ backups. Speaks volumes on how great and loved this man was

James Brown said he and Elvis were the only two American originals and there would never be another like that Soul brother. B.B. King said Elvis had a unique way of looking at a song and had he lived there would have been no end to his inventiveness. Those quotes came from The Godfather of Soul and King of the Blues. Even Chuck D had to recant his Fight the Power line and said Elvis gave props to his roots.

Elvis first met J.D. Sumner when he was 14 or 15 years old, when Sumner came to Memphis singing with a gospel quartet called The Blackwood Brothers. Elvis would hang around the stage door and Sumner (whose ‘zoom bass’ voice Elvis admired, wishing he could sing in a gospel quartet as a bass singer) saw this lad and when he realised Presley couldn’t afford the admission price, he would let Elvis in for free. Years later in 1971 when Elvis’s gospel quartet backing group the Imperials left his Las Vegas and touring ensemble, Elvis asked J.D. Sumner to join him, singing as the zoom bass singer with the 4 members of The Stamps quartet. They would continue to do this (alongside the soul/gospel trio The Sweet Inspirations, who when a quartet had featured Whitney Houston’s mother Cissy Houston) until Elvis’s death in 1977. In fact on that day of August 16th, the ensemble was setting out to fly to the first date of Elvis’s concert tour when the news reached them of his passing.
