Eric Clapton is an English rock & blues guitarist, singer & songwriter. He is considered one of the best guitarists in the world & has had a great career in music. He was with many great groups before going solo. The Yardbirds, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, Cream, Blind Faith, Derek & The Dominos. He has had a lot of solo hits such as "Layla", "I Shot The Sheriff", "Change The World", "My Father's Eyes", "Cocaine", "Lay Down Sally" etc.

Eric wrote this while he was waiting for his wife, then Patti Boyd to get ready for a party. Initially, he was tired of the wait, but then realized that she looked fantastic and she'd done it for him. (We all know ladies will do that.) So, he changed the tone to be adoring of her and thereby wrote the most requested love song of his entire career. Its a concert favorite (requested even more often than "Layla"), and is highly acclaimed by musicians and critics alike. When a renowned musician writes a tune that you call "cute" they are doing it for a much more profound reason than the fulfillment of any girl's Cinderella aspirations, they are telling a woman what she ultimately needs to hear from her guy. This song is also played at a lot of weddings. Since he was writing from his own life, it took him only about ten minutes to write it. Eric Clapton is the ONLY ARTIST to be inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame three times. Every note played on that recording is a brilliant performance of each participating musician and backup singer. I would suggest to all those who want their 'reactions' to be respected, that you start by searching the artist in Wikipedia and then the song there as well. This will prevent you from having to reinvent the wheel in your reactions. He ranks among the most acclaimed guitarists in the world, and beyond question is the most influential guitarist on the face of the earth. No one else even comes close to him in this regard.

Eric is a blues artist. He’s known as Slow Hand because of his playing style. His catalogue is HUGE
@graciefolden2359
@graciefolden2359 Жыл бұрын
From Songfacts: His nickname is "Slowhand," although he plays very fast. His manager started calling him that while he was touring with The Yardbirds in 1964. Clapton was famous for breaking strings because of his ridiculous bends. When he would go backstage to change strings the audience would start a slow hand clap until he returned. Clapton has been a member of The Yardbirds, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Cream, Blind Faith, and Derek and the Dominos. Clapton is the only person inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times. He is in as a solo artist and as a member of Cream and The Yardbirds. In 1979, he married Pattie Harrison. She was previously married to George Harrison, who remained good friends with Clapton. Clapton declared his love for her on the Derek and the Dominos album Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs in 1970, while she was still married to Harrison. Eric and Pattie divorced in 1988.😊

The number of musicians this man's life has intersected with over the years is just astounding. From playing on one of the most beautiful Beatles songs 'While my guitar gently weeps' it was his guitar weeping. To playing some solos for Bob Marley and for Aretha Franklin. To having set a date to record with his good friend Jimi Hendrix and while awaiting him in the airport with a left-handed Strat he'd bought him so he wouldn't have to flip his around anymore, getting told Hendrix had died in Amsterdam. To BB King infront of a crowd of 10's upon 10's of 1000's telling him he hoped he would no longer be around when Clapton died as it would be the saddest day for music and his son of course. It's hard to phatom that we most likely never have know of Bob Marley and Reggea in the West if he hadn't covered 'I shot the Sheriff' or of the Great JJ Cale if he didn't cover 'Cocaine' and 'After Midnight' If this man's life isn't worthy of a movie than noone's is.

Hi guys, I know i'm late on this one. But I remember when this song was released back in 1978 and the one you two heard here was the recorded version we all heard on the radio, But there is a live version that is argurably the best version he did of this song called, " Eric Clapton Wonderful Tonight Live greatest version ". It is titled the, "Greatest Version" because it is. Here's why. It is much slower (9;24) and more romantic sounding that will put you in the mood like no other song. You also get to see him sing it as he plays his guitar with other band members doing their thing. This song is long because it is sung so slow as it draws you into it. There is a special wonderful voice at the end that is not on any other versions of this song. The version you reacted to here is just too fast paced to be romantic like it should be. Any couple that is in love should listen to this version of the song. Since you say you rather react to recorded versions first then, live or video versions later, you both are in a for surprize if you watch and listen to this classic live version. This live version was recorded at Royal Albert Hall, London, England, UK, 1990 or 1991.

Yes back in the day the in the late 60's Eric turned down the chance to join the Beatles. Eric play'd a little part on the Beatles White album. The album was a huge success. Clapton was the only outsider to be taken a lead role on the song " While My Guitar Gently Weeps " It was in 1969 George Harrison walked out from the band. So thinking George was out, they knew one guy they wanted to replace George. It was Clapton. But it never happened cause George came back with in days. Could you imagine if Eric joined for good. What a resume Eric would have and not to mention it would of sealed Eric's legacy for good. Wow what a story. Good show you guys! Keep it up! But Eric was in 9 bands and there is no doubt the talent that Eric has, he will be known for generations to come....HUGE TALENT

Fantastic absolutely splendid love song and I wanna to recommend a mid 1970s soulful hit by Leon Haywood "I wanna do something freaky to you" great song structure it's grooven and after his passing many of the top rap artist stoled and sample parts without paying royalties, it's like steal pants and shoes off a dead person shame on them but the song is his and I dig it man, most definitely highly recommended! Enjoy and let's see them faces smile!

Eric was in several classic bands before going totally solo. The whole Derek And The Dominoes lp was inspired by George Harrisons wife who Eric was in love with. Check out the song "Bell Bottom Blues". It is so so about Patty. He also did the guitar solo on the Beatles song "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". Some cool songs by him are "Motherless Children" and "Slow Down Linda". His nickname was Slowhand and the phrase Clapton Is God was a popular thing back in the day. Speaking of Guitar Gently Weeps, you guys should really check out the live Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame performance featuring Prince. It's incredible and if you're not familiar with the song, check out The Beatles first and then feast your eyes and ears on it. I think it will flip you out.

If you were to choose the greatest popular music artist of all time based on three criteria: instrument playing (virtuoso musician), singing (pleasant & passionate voice) and song writing (both melody & lyrics), Clapton would have to be on that short list. He is a bluesman whose earned his stripes in singing them. After two beautiful ballads, may I suggest a good rocker from his vast catalogue, how about "Why Does Love Have to Be So Sad" by Derek & the Dominoes!

I have two suggestions for requests, "Eva Cassidy - "Over The Rainbow" (The black and white live video) Eva Cassidy died in 1996 at age 33 from cancer before she was ever famous. Two years after her death, her cover of "Over the Rainbow" was aired on the BBC and it _exploded_ in popularity. Four years after her death this previously unknown video of her performance was discovered. It aired on "Top of the Pops 2" in Britain and became the most requested video ever in the show's history. Since Eva's death CDs of her music has sold over 10 million copies. And she never lived to know her success. She's considered by some to be the best voice of her generation! This video performance was filmed 10 months before she passed away. Her version of "Over The Rainbow" is considered by many to be the best version ever recorded (even better than Judy Garland's original) and is her signature song. "Joni Mitchell - "Case Of You", (please do the audio only! The video isn't as good.) Joni is a legendary folk pop/rock singer. She wrote CSN&Y's hit "Woodstock". Considered one of the most creative singer songwriters in her field. The song, "Case of You" is from her 1971 _Blue_ album which is generally regarded by music critics as one of the greatest albums of all time! In 2020, _Blue_ was rated the third greatest album of all time in Rolling Stone's list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time".

Paddy Boyd was married to the Beatles George Harrison who inspired Batles classics like 'Something". Eric Clapton who played the solo on the Beatles 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' was George Harrison's best friend. Eric fell in love with Pattie Boyd but she stayed leading Eric to write the classic 'Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs' by his band Derek and the Dominoes. Eric descended into severe drug addiction for about 4 years until Pattie eventually married Eric in the mid 1970's.
