Still this is a propagandist display of Sowell's message. This sucks. This is like Turning Point USA telling Sowell's story. Don't believe it.

My friends, this video is based on the work of Thomas Sowell, a black economist. The point being made in the video and books, is that slavery has a long history. Every race and culture in the past had slavery. It's not a unique evil done against black people. There is a fixation by black people to focus on their slavery and act as if it never happened to anyone else.

"so they enslaved they own"? - someone who has same complexion than you doesn't make them "the same people" as you. "it has to be hate" - you think those women and children who fall victims to trafficing today, is "hated"? its strictly about money you lump people of similar colour together as they're "same people"

Some of his videos to watch "The Hidden Truth Behind the Ending of Slavery" , "The origins of the black American culture and Ebonics", "The truth about slavery and reperations" Thomas Sowell is absolutely brilliant, and has written a bunch of books on history and economics. You are contradicting yourself. At first you say "you are not downplaying the slavery in other cultures" but then you want to focus solely on black slavery. there are very few caucasian countries or cultures who practice slavery today. In fact it was the brittish who ended slavery from Africa. It was africans who want to keep it going. So before you blame and point the finger at caucasians, first interrogate africans

These 3 were pretty cool. They listened to facts that created a negative reaction within them. That is not easy, it makes an individual feel negative. Thus we by individual nature shy away from it.

"Fact check" Thomas Sowell? That's pretty funny, but I encourage you to do so. Keep learning. Slavery is older than written language, and had nothing to do with skin color. It was a business, conducted by all races, enslaving people of all races. As in the rest of the world throughout history, people who were slaves were looked down upon by the local population; in the US that's why racism was born in the south, not the north. Sowell has many publications on the history of racism in the US - all extremely well researched. Check them out.

I could address all of your points of concern and add clarity to each, but I am not well and do not have the energy to take on such a delicate and exhausting subject(s). What I will say is, please do continue to research and expand your knowledge on this subject because there is a serious flaw in what is taught in school, being either too little taught or worse yet incorrect information being taught in schools. Lastly, I'll end by saying that to understand why something is, it is important to first understand what was and how it started. This video was just an introduction to this subject, and there is much more to learn. In all honesty, it's something that could be studied for an entire lifetime and still have more to learn, so seek out those who have already spent a large portion of their lives in study and listen to what they say. Because they will know what is most important to understand initially and what is better learned afterward. I have to go now. May your family be blessed with love and prosperity. Godspeed my friends.

The terrm "slave" comes from the slavs in Europe who were enslaved by the Ottoman empire (arabs of middle east). You may have missed it but the slaves of Africa were already slaves. White europeans and North Americans bought African slaves at the coastal markets because they were cheap NOT because they were black.

Opportunity is what made the "Switch", Europeans arrived on the coast of Africa and wanted to trade. The African leaders had easy access to slaves and deals were made. At the same time, discoveries of cotton and Sugar required tons of manpower in the Caribbean colonies and so it was a question of supply (African leaders had easy access to slaves) and demand (colonies required workers.)

You do know the word slave, came from the slavic people. Slaves (people) aka slaves. Basically my point is, when the presenter said he think of black people when he thinks slavery. He should just be thinking about humans, not a particular race.

Okay, several of the comments I've read are uncalled for. Our man in the middle clearly states this should be an open discussion, which tells me they are open to facts. And jumping on the big fella because to him 'slavery=race' is unfair. While it's not an absolute, it's also not totally wrong. Education is this country is abominable to say the least, and it's not the younger generations fault that anything outside of a standardized test isn't taught. When it comes to basic history they shouldn't have to "Look it up." Slavery, as a concept has existed for centuries, and had nothing to do with race. Pretty much all conquering empires, like the Romans, enslaved the conquered. It wasn't until the late 17th century that the false notion of “white” people being inherently smarter, more capable, and more human than nonwhite people became accepted worldwide. This categorization of people became a justification for European colonization and subsequent enslavement of people from Africa.

As far as the idea of 'superiority' as a caucasian...well I recently attended a 4.5hr presentation by Neil deGrasse Tyson. ❤ I'm lucky if I followed a quarter of it, and my brain still hurts from trying to follow the rest. 🤣 The idea of racial supremacy is so beyond ignorant, there isn't even a word. And NdT isn't a one-off...I could list specifically hundreds of African Americans that are smarter than 99.9% of the planet. Seriously...

My genetic heritage is part Slavic. Look closely at how that word is spelled. When I bring this up to others often I get a sympathetic response like “omg I never thought about your own trauma I’m so sorry.” No. That’s missing the point. The point is that that I don’t even have that part of my heritage as an element of my personal mindset and self image. Like, at all. Also please look at the study from Harvard by Roland Fryer (another black economist) about the reality of racial disparities in police shootings. It’s not about the actual disparities in police shootings, it’s about the perception of those alleged disparities created by media coverage.

Since you like to group all caucasian people as bad, less than 3% of the US population actually owned slaves during the 80 some years slavery occurred here. Even Black people owned slaves. Slaves from some states now part of the USA were only enslaved for 20 years. Florida and Texas for instance.

Sowell's argument is slavery was not based on race. There were very few places to acquire slaves, that would've been economical or even possible besides Africa. Sowell suggests that ideologies of racism are if anything a product of slavery, not the other way around. I find these interesting. Black perspectives certainly boil over as having a strong sense of identity with slavery. My ancestors are much closer to being slaves than we were to having slaves, certainly more than the average black American but because I'm white, I don't share this style of identity. Black Americans have such a false view of their own history, because it's seen in their "racism" lens. It takes stepping back from that, assuming the old order, and reevaluation. But if you believe things like "blacks getting shot by cops" being something to do with racism and slavery, it's only testament to the fact that you're incapable of seeing past stereotypes and lies by "black movements" over the years.

Personally, i’m not a fan of that one ruler who also was a slave owner, rapist, and pedophile. By the way, I’m referring to Shaka Zulu. However, there is one question I’d like to pose; there were many, many kingdoms and empires in West Africa. That’s just historical fact. An awful lot of them got their riches from selling their own people to the European slave traders.

Slavery is ancient. It used to be the norm. It's only (relatively) become a moral issue in the last 150-years or so. In fact, there are more slaves in the world right now than there have ever been. Why you still feel discriminated against? I can't tell you that because I haven't lived your life.
