I travelled from New Zealand to see them live in Germany a few years ago. What struck me immediately was just how effing tight they are as a live act. Outstanding.

try their NEFELIM album.....one of the darkest music I ever heard. I listen to black metal music but this album is as dark as it can be

Their first three albums are still in my regular rotation. Was lucky enough to see them live “back in the day”. (Yes, I’m old) One of the best live shows ever. Love Under Will, The Watchman or Volcane (Mr Jealousy) are worth checking out. Unfortunately the video you just watched cut out the last minute of the song.

I became a goth in the early 80s after attending the Sisters of Mercys first gig. The Nephilim became one of my all time favourite bands that I still play to this day. As for contact lenses, Pete Burns from Nightmares In Wax (who then became Dead or Alive) worn black ones in the late 70s, his eyes were totally black with no whites showing, so I guess they have been out for some time. I did try to get some back in the day but they were very expensive.

The "Hand Cutting"... It's a test for witchcraft. The subject was blindfolded and a dagger and a crucifix set out before them . If they chose the cross they where innocent, pick the dagger and you're a witch. Since Carl McCoy (The singer) is a Pagan Chaos Magician, it's no surprise he chose the knife.

Carl's voice was damaged when he was a child,and he never recovered from it. That "growl" is the only way he can sing. It isnt effected,forced or anything. Just thought I'd mention at for those who dont know. :}

If you’re into fields of the Nephilim, you are MY people 🤘… everything about them was ““well advanced”. They were def OF their time, but at the same time WAY ahead. I think that Carl was probably one of, If Not, the first guys to use a false chord vocal approach. And the music space for itself. There was nobody who could play that well at that time and there still isn’t…. They are absolutely evocative.

You guys seem much too happy to ever be FOTN fans 😉 The angry depressed type like me love em 😁 BTW this came out in 88 not 84. And yes colored contacts were invented then. Didn't Michael Jackson wear them in Thriller video in 82?

@olearntz Жыл бұрын
At least in my opinion: Hopefully never. FOTN (as well as the whole "classic" Goth Rock thing) reached the zenith with "Elyzium", and everything afterwards seemed like the attempt to connect to those great days without offering any real progress or new impulse to it. Just mergeing with metal and showcasing the old black painted cliché isn't very innovative at all. Sorry to say that, but - at least from my point of view - goth is finally dead.
@janosfernandez945 Жыл бұрын
@@olearntz Nefilim's "Zoon " apparently fragmented their following. Not me, I thought that was an interesting record but I also like industrial. "Mourning Sun" however is a "true" return to form and, I think, shows great mastery of their very personal music experiment... Or maybe try "Ceromonies", their live album which really showcases their evolution along with astounding renditions. All in good spirits mate !
