George Jones once said about his music "When you're happy you enjoy the music. When you're sad, you understand the lyrics"

My granny was born in the early 1900’s and usually only listened to gospel music, except George Jones. I was like 10 years old and she was in her 60’s and we both loved George and listened to him together. She would pray for him and say that Ol’ Tammy broke that boys heart. I am so glad we had that love of 1 singer together that crossed generational boundaries.

There are reasons why George Jones is a legend. He is gone but his music will be around for a LONG time.

"Lord it's been ten bottles since I tried to forget her. But the memory still lingers lying here on the ground." Ugh! Thats the best!! George Jones is by far my absolute favorite! The way he moans a wicked ballad and puts so much feeling into it. Even the saddest songs are feel good music for me. Lol

You hit it spot on there my friend when you put him & Merle in the same category! Them 2 was in a class all by themselves at the top of the shelf!

That's the thing with George Jones you feel it every song seems to make you feel happy or sad it just speaks to you. Even If the song isn't about George he makes it seems so. George is the best

Another one about Tammy! Plus it's straight out my life. My dad was like that with my mom! He was so evil! Anything you could think of, my dad did to us! George was the sweetest human on earth! Til he got on a bender! Then he was mean & destructive! It killed him when Tammy left!! But if she didn't, he might of killed her eventually! But my family would go have jam sessions with him. It was a blast! All my family can play & sing anything..except me! lol I still enjoy singing. Vince Gill's video for Give me just one last chance has George in it on a riding lawn mower. He has a 3min interview on the Lawn Mower story!! Tammy & George became friends toward the end. But she died first & I'm sure it 💔 shattered him!! But a fun song he sings live is..Rocking Chair! Funny! The Corvette song was funny! The last thing she gave me was the bird! funny!! There's a series on Showtime, here anyway, Called George & Tammy. It's really good & interesting! There's also about a 3min clip on KZbin that has George telling the lawnmower story! They also have a clip of him getting arrested for DUI!!

He’s talking about Tammy Wynette whom he was married to. She was one of the pioneers for women country singers and was phenomenal in her own right.

I lay my head on the wheel! The whole neighborhood knows Jones is home druuuuuuuuuunk again! GREW up on country; JONES is not a country singer....he is THE SINGER!!! The way he conveys his message is superlative to all; only Whitney comes close.

Frank Sinatra called George Jones the "second-best singer in America" (behind himself, of course). That's debatable, but in his prime, Jones had one of the smoothest voices in any genre. I call him the white Luther! Anyhow, loved the commentary.

You almost never can go wrong with George Jones. Even though - by the looks of his face (eyes and so) - he is a country version of Jim Carrey. I never can unsee it....

David Allen coe Merle haggard Hank williams Sr Jimmie Rogers and probably patsy cline would be my top 5 greatest country singers of all time. This however and doing time by George Jones are some of what I would put in my choice of greatest songs. Just like Marty Robbins big iron El Paso and they're hanging me tonight are some classic greats I just can't submerge myself in all their work like I can with Merlin or David. Minus the x-rated album even though I've heard it it's not something I would just turn on to listen to for other than laughs couldn't nobody cover or sing like coe man.

There are a couple Songs from a younger GJ that really showcase his vocal ability at its peak in my opinion. Would be fun to hear your reaction - “Mr Fool” , Sometimes you just can’t win” or “I Saw Me”. Or for a duet “when two worlds collide” with Margie Singleton.
