Like with that verse missing the whole song just doesn't hit as hard. Even though he was singing about his great grandfather I always kinda associated it with my grandfather. He's been gone 19 years now but I miss you Papa.

Randy Travis in 2013 had a massive stroke do to congestive heart failure, had emergency brain surgery and had to relearn how to walk and talk again but never really fully recovered. He walked with a cane.

I have always told my kids that anytime you get a chance to talk with their elders, they should sit and listen to their stories. They have a lifetime of knowledge and experience. They may have a better way of doing things. You can learn so much. If anything, you might get a great story and a new friend

When I was little I would watch my Grampa working on his farm. I thought he was the tallest, strongest man in the world. I would race to get to his chair before him. He'd hang me upside down and call me his little rascal. He was my Hero. He lived to be 100. I was so lucky to have 2 heroes. Him and my Dad❤🤧 God bless you

My mom's grandfather was out working his farm too, into his 90s. Once when I was very little, we were going out to their place and my mom saw a shirtless guy, out working in the field and she thought "that guy is hot", but as they got closer, she realized it was her 80 year old grandfather!

Not many people are lucky enough to know their great grandparents. Great grandparents and grandparents are gifts to the younger generations. They should be revered and appreciated. My grandpa's told the greatest stories. if you have not listened to Ray Stevens' "I'm My Own Grandpa", you should. You will loose your mind.

My grandfather was THE man to me always, a model of how men should be. He was a patriotic WW2 veteran and devout Christian that worked from before the sun came up till late at night. The kind person that would give the shirt off his back to you and he gave his free time away to do charity work(ministering to prisoners). He passed away at 92.

This is one of my favorites of his. I always think of my paternal granddaddy who wore an old straw hat and, no doubt in my mind, it hid a halo. He wore khaki pants and white or khaki shirts and smelled of the earth that he worked in and the Juicy Fruit gum which he always carried in his pocket. He was a storyteller, a good, upright family man, and the song leader at Mace’s Hill Missionary Baptist Church where there was no piano, no restrooms and no air conditioning. But my grandfather would roll up the songbook in his hand and lead the singing without ever opening the old hymnal. Something died in me the day the Lord called him home. He was my friend, my confidant and my champion and I’m fairly certain he walked on water. Looking forward to a great reunion coming soon.

My grandpa was my hero. He adopted my dad and my aunts and uncles after he married my grandma. My dad’s actual birth father abandoned my grandma and ran off with his mistress. My grandpa may not have been the man who fathered my dad, but he was the one who stepped up and raised him, showing him what a man actually is. I loved him so much. He was the one who taught me how to fish, how to drive a stick shift, and I’d spend a lot of my summers shelling purple hull peas with him until my fingers themselves were purple 😂. He was the first one who I told that was going to join the Army. The day we lost him I cried my eyes out. I was stationed in Germany and couldn’t get home in time to say goodbye. Every time I hear this song it hits me like a ton of bricks. I’m back to the little kid looking up to his grandpa, fishing on a local pond.

This is the coolest thing that Randy Travis has ever done. I love so much that he forgot the lines to his own song. Because Randy Travis, unlike almost everybody else that entertains people, Is so extremely humble that he actually thanks other artists for covering his songs because he truly thinks they'll make it better than he did. And he will say that to anybody because he does not take himself seriously. And I love that because hes talented enough to have a HUGE ego but he doesnt.

I lived in Nashville for a while, I went to this club where Randy Travis used to be a dishwasher, Every Monday or Tuesday night they would pick people from the audience to get up and sing with the house band on the other night people who worked there could get up and sing. Like I was saying Randy was a dishwasher there he got up to sing and there was a record producer who hired him on the spot His paycheck was put in a frame and when you walked into the club it was right there for everyone to see. It was roughly 213.15 , Yeah for a multi million dollar contract I would have left my last paycheck there too.

In a family usually the most overlooked people are kids and old folks and they tend to have a closer relationship! They have the time and take the time for each other! My Grandfather reminds me of the man in the song. He was kind of an outlaw in his younger years but by the time I came along he was older and his health was gone and I was his shadow. I loved him and wanted to be him when I grew older. But he was gone by the time I was 12. Funny, I thought he was really old when he passed at 65 and now I am 70. I love your reactions, You show a lot of love and soul when you listen to a song. I also love a lot of the songs you react to. You have a Great day Lovely lady!

You make watching your reviews so enjoyable. Thank you......... Randy Travis was a favorite of mine with his rich baritone voice. I could just listen to him all day long. There are those that are so gifted that regardless of what they were doing you would just want to take them in, example Jimmy Stewart (actor), Sam Elliott (Actor) these two come to mind. Britt your reactions fall in line with that, you make the experience so pleasant and you are down to earth and very thoughtful in a wonderful way. Keep on keeping on Britt 💞💯❣

He may have forgotten the words momentarily, but as others have already commented, we true fans know them by heart. Randy Travis is one of the quintessential male artists of Country Music. And thanks to his cooperation with AI, he has a new song out right now despite his inability to sing anymore. And he is currently working on others. So glad to know that his voice lives on! Country Music is currently going under massive changes, and all for the worst. We need to never forget Randly Travis, George Strait, Garth Brooks, Cling Black, Alan Jackson, Tim McGraw, and the rest; not to mention all the great women of Country Music who in my opinion are among the best female singers of all time!
