I am from india, my childhood spent in Iran there I heard Googoosh as my father loved to hear her. I saw on TV as well, before 79. Today it brought childhood memories back. Love that Charisma of googoosh. Still she is incredible. Now I can say Farsi language and poetry has a great depth in emotions and is beautiful to hear. It always pierces the hole into me and merges with my soul. Really I can't control my emotions. Weather it's Googoosh, Mahasti,Haideh,Humeaira or Gita. Best of the World Voices. ❤❤❤❤❤love IRAN.

This is the translation...... On a bare plain, beneath the desert sun There's an old lagoon, captured in the land I am the old lagoon, separated from the whole world Heat of the sun on my body, chain of the land on my feet I am the one who one day, wanted to be the sea I wanted to become the world's largest sea I dreamed of reaching the sea Burning the night for reaching tomorrow In the beginning I was a fountain under the old sky But the bad luck took me to the desert My eyes were set there, behind that high mountain But the hands of fate dug a hole in my way I fell into the hole, the soil imprisoned me The sky also refused to rain, it was being hardheaded Now I'm a lagoon, a half dead captive Downwards Im going into the earth, upwards to the sky The sun from up there, and the earth from down here They're vaporizing me, Now this is all my life I'm seeing my death by my own eyes This is my fate, I'm the captive of the earth Nothing's left from me, it's the last moments The thirsty soil is taking the last drops away I'll dry up, I'll run out, when the sun comes tomorrow The wind brings the sand, that will fill up my spot

Googoosh's lyrics are exceptionally profound and she becomes different characters in different songs. This song is called: "The Swamp". She is a narrow creek in the desert hoping to reach the oceans behind the mountains but she ends up in a hole and becomes a motionless swamp. She is being pulled down by the earth and evaporated by the sun until she dries up and her remaining sands get blown away by the wind... Check out these classics of hers: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3i5iJyjobGXZ8U Do Panjereh "Two Windows" Two windows divided by a wall. So close yet they can never be together. She longs for the wall to fall hoping in their next life time windows are not separated by walls... kzbin.info/www/bejne/pnXKfnyQpNCmipo Kavir "The Desert" She is a dried up desert asking God for rain and longing for blossoming flowers and a new life... kzbin.info/www/bejne/eYC5dZekgbaKfZI Mano Gonjishka "The Birds" She is one of many birds in a house longing every day for their owner to come home and release them from their cage and feed them and let them be free. kzbin.info/www/bejne/haqxnoGVr5x1a7c "You and I" We are together but far apart. A bad marriage where home has become a prison. Nothing left to be said. Clocks have stopped ticking and floral pattern on the rugs are fading away...

The song is called lagoon, here is the translation: In a naked field, under the dessert sun, there is an old lagoon, hostage to the dirt. I'm that old lagoon, away from the world. the heat of sun on my body & the chain of earth on my feet. I am the one who wanted to be a sea, the biggest sea in the world! I wished to go until I reach the sea, set fire to the night to reach tomorrow. First, I was a spring under the old sky, I was so unfortunate that my path led to the dessert. My eyes were looking past the mountains, but the hands of fates, dug a well on my way! I fell in, the dirt imprisoned me, the sky didn't care, it didn't rain. Now, I am a lagoon, an ill hostage, going in the earth from one side, & going up [vaporize] in the sky from another. The sun from above, earth from down below, melt & vaporize me, this has become my life. I am seeing my death with my own eyes. It's my destiny, being a hostage to the earth. There is nothing left of me, these are the last drops. The thirsty earth is taking it away. I will be dried out tomorrow, when the sun comes up, and sand will fill where once I was. The sand that the wind brings.

Long story short! Mordab means swamp. The song uses swamp as a metaphor for a person who is stuck in a deadened situation in life. The sun eats the swamp(evaporates) and the earth eats it in a different way (absorbs the swamp). The song then continues with the swamp having the dream of joining the ocean but stuck in the desert and has no hope to survive. Beautiful concept like sunshine is pictured as an evil destroyer. All these contrasts makes the lyrics amazing

The meaning of "mordab " is Swamp.
@manikeshvardoost37034 жыл бұрын
I think the proper word for Mordab in English is lagoon. Here a lagoon is talking to itself or to God or to no-one , singing, crying, complaining about it's destiny. It was dreaming whole it's life about moving and flowing toward the ocean, toward the God, toward its true self, but something has stoped it. something maybe from outside or inside. It doesn't know. it is disappointed and when out of itself, it is observing its death. Being absorbed by soil and being vaporized by sun. it thinks it's the end of its story that's why it is scared. may be tomorrow it is joining the ocean as rain.
@a2zin1254 жыл бұрын
Mordab is a swamp, a stangnent decaying body of water which will never realize its biggest dream, reaching the ocean (the song assumes every body of water, just like a river, dreams of joining the ocean in the end). The lyrics though about a mordab on the surface is an analogy of unfulfilled dreams and the grief and sadness that accompany such loss.
@a.riddlemethis7954 жыл бұрын
The "Spanish" influence goes both ways. Flamenco has some Iranian/Gypsy/Berber routs (look up Ziryab) and because of that, Iranians feel at home when Western music has some Spanish ornaments. The style of this song is known as "chanson" (pronounced shanson), a french genre of music that emphasises the lyrics and pays less attention to the background music. It was hugely popular in 60s and 70s in Europe (especially France, obviously, Italy and Germany) but also in Iran, where pop music was emerging. Googoosh is one of the pioneers of the modern pop music in Iran, which differs heavily from the heretofore known and loved traditional and Folk music, but a french person would actually characterize her as an accomplished "chanteur", a chanson singer.
@-Mitra- Жыл бұрын
I would correct you. Spanish have ornaments due to being the Arab territory for almost eight centuries! Arabs, in turn, initially overtook Persia and all related in near and far lands. During those long lasting times Persians had to somehow adapt to Arabs that introduced haram over depicting human faces (among many other weird "rules"). So, Persian (and others living there including non-Muslims, see Armenians) craftsmen, artists and architects mastered their ornamental art, and polished even more their architectural talents. Then Arabs carried this out and expanded far to North Africa and Southern Europe. Should that be Persian from the beginning, then you'd see that in Akhemenids and Sassanids legacy that conquered enormous territory. But we see a mix of beautiful, magnificent open faced monuments, bas-reliefs and ornaments, hence not ornaments only )) So I'd call this Persian Art's excellent adaptation to Arab's prohibitions. Kinda beautiful result emerged not thanks to, but in spite of vile nomads.
@a.riddlemethis795 Жыл бұрын
@@-Mitra- You didn't correct me. You just gave additional information. I agree with the sentiment that there is no such thing as "Islamic art", because everything artistic was produced despite of Islam, not because of it, but that was not the point here :)
@-Mitra- Жыл бұрын
@@a.riddlemethis795 yeah, you're right. Also here to add that we should consider (and probably must not forget) that after disastrous demolition of Persepolis yet a lot of Akhemenids legacy remained intact and transitioned to Sassanids until...the Arab and turk invasion. These destroyed as much ancestry as they could. They aimed to erase any remnants of people's historical memories of previous thousands years, with some exceptions...

The lyric is the story of a small spring dreaming of merging into the biggest sea. Misfortunately, she passes through a hole and entraps by the ground. The sun evaporates her from the top the soil sucks her last drops. She dies gradually and sands takes her place brought by the hands of the wind the next day. I've edited Neda's translations a bit to make it easier for everyone to follow the lines, exactly as she sings them. This way you get a better understanding of the lyrics & at the same time connect to what she's feeling through each line. . ***Also, wherever possible, instead of generalizing some of the lines (as Neda has done in just a few cases) I'm translating almost each line exactly as she speaks & means them in Persian.*** In the middle of a bare plain, beneath the desert sun, There's an old lagoon, captured in the land. I am that old lagoon, separated from the whole world The heat of the sun on my body, The chain of the land on my feet. I am the one who one day, wanted to become the sea, I wanted to become the greatest, sea in the world. I dreamed of going, till I reach the sea, To burn the night, till I reach tomorrow.... In the beginning I was a fountain, under the old sky But from bad luck my path turned to the desert. My eyes, my eyes were set there, behind that high mountain, But the hands of fate, dug a hole in my way.... I fell into the hole, the soil imprisoned me, The sky also refused to rain, it too, was being hardheaded. Now I'm a lagoon, a half dead captive, On the one side I'm sinking into the earth On the other, upwards to the sky..... The sun from up there, and the earth from down here, they keep vaporizing me, This is what my life has become. I see here, my death, with my own eyes, This is my fate, I'm a captive of the earth. Nothing's left of me, it's (on) my last drops, Even this (much), the thirsty soil, is taking away from me. I'll dry up, I'll run out, Tomorrow, when the sun comes, The sand will fill my spot (my existence) That which will come with the hands of the wind.....

Well this is a pop song so it's bound to sound a little bit like the pop music of most other cultures. BUT, Persian is older than Latin so if you see any similarities in expression (musical or otherwise) you could take a guess at where it's most likely coming from. Plus the latin you're probably thinking of is of the Americas, which is even younger than true Spanish latin.

Marsh ( the name of the sing) the middle of a barren plain, under the desert sun, There remains an old swamp, trapped in the hands of the earth. I am that old swamp, separated from the whole world, The heat of the sun burns my skin, the chains of the earth bind my feet. I am the one who once wanted to be the sea, I wanted to be the biggest sea in the world. I had dreams of going until I reached the sea, To set the night on fire so I could reach tomorrow. At first, I was a spring under the old sky, But by a cruel twist of fate, my path led to the desert. My eyes were set on there, behind that tall mountain, But the hand of destiny dug a pit for me. I fell into the pit, the earth imprisoned me, The sky didn’t rain, it just entertained itself. Now I have become a swamp, a half-dead prisoner, One part of me goes to the earth, the other reaches the sky. The sun from up above, the earth from down below, They turn me into vapor, this is my life now. With my eyes, I see my death here, This is my fate, I am a prisoner of the earth. Nothing is left of me, these are the final moments, The thirsty earth is taking me away with it. I’m drying up, I’m finishing, tomorrow when the sun rises, The sand will fill my body, and the wind will carry it away.

hi first of all I need to explain something! actually this song and this particular version isn't a live performance!!! the first revile of song was a live performance at googoosh's birthday and it became a memorable event and the clapping had became a part of song . so the arrangement of it "hasan shamai zade" made an effect of clapping and added it to the song while it was recording . anyway googoosh is our classic pop's legend. she is a part of persians musical memory and she will be ! she had played many different type of songs in many different languages! to be exact in 11 languages and she speaks five of them ! so I recommend you to react to one of her official medleys called "International medley" . it contains a mixture of four different songs that she performed in the 70's ! I think it will go viral and you won't have the language difficulties;) love bardia
