I’ve heard a lot of Haley’s covers and I personally think that this song is hands down her absolute best. There are other bangers too but she nails this with her performance, style, interpretation and unbelievable vocal nuances contrasted with her vocal acrobatics.
And another round if applause for Scott Bradlee's arrangement (PMJ). Lots of vocalists do their best work for PMJ so it must have a lot to do with who he chooses for what song and how he arranges it. I love most of what they do.

Thank you. These performers on stage now a days with hardly any clothes on grinding on things... I hate to tell them but they could learn something here none of that going on but is she absolutely wonderful and gorgeous? Outstanding. Yes she’s a grown-up lady. I felt like I was back in 1940 something in a jazz club or something in New York City. And THAT is why Haley is the most underrated female vocalist of our time. Her other;s are amazing as well. Her original "I don't Know how to Love you" is fantastic. "Lay it Down" shows her pure upper register. Thank goodness she got rid of her crappy label and is doing her own thing. Her influences are from the blues field. Great reaction, loved it. I would always suggest a second run through just watching her eyes and physical performance.
@theblackdog23993 жыл бұрын
Uhm...Haley was cut by Interscope along with 65 other music artists due to a cost cutting measure because Interscope at the time was experiencing some very serious cash-flow financial issues. However, the reason why Haley is so underrated today is because she remains very obscure and the reason why she always remains so very obscure is because she has always declined to sign a record deal with a major record label since being released by Interscope. In any event, had Haley elected to sign a record deal instead, she'd be about as big as Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood are today. Moreover, even if Haley was signed onto a record label, she'd still be doing her own thing.
@davidphillips44763 жыл бұрын
@@theblackdog2399 Yeh uhmm and the music they had her doing was horrible..it was overproduced bubble gum pop that they tried to go the pop princess approach. Her first album had 2 decent songs ...everything else rubbish. If Any Human with an ear for music watched her on idol its pinnacle performance was House of the Rising Sun...blues/rock...not pop. And yes she probably would be as big as those you mentioned if she had, instead she wanted control of her sound. Believe me, as a recording engineer I cringe when I hear music so overproduced as they do. Go back and listen to the finalists recordings...Their Voice is what won, not the mass of production blobbed behind and over them.
@theblackdog23993 жыл бұрын
@@davidphillips4476 Well...you are obviously extremely ignorant of Haley's career because everything you write cuts directly against the grain of reality. As Interscope Records gave Haley all the freedom in the world to write her own tunes on that first album. As with the exception of only "Free", every song on that first debut album was written and performed by Haley Reinhart. Moreover, that album was not horrible at all. In fact, all the best music reviewers throughout the USA said it was the best debut album ever by a former American Idol contestant. The problem was Interscope was having very serious financial problems at the time because Jimmy Iovene had just left Interscope with his millions of dollars to go take over Apple Music, and that caused Interscope Records to experience very serious financial problem. Hence, Interscope couldn't promote Haley's album because they were flat out of cash. Not only that but Interscope was also forced to cut 65 music artists from their music roster at the same time with Haley being one of those. However, Interscope Records didn't leave Haley out in the cold. They let her have the rights to her music as a consolation to Haley because Interscope couldn't finally fulfill the contract they had with her, and Haley used those rights to her music to earn a living for several years subsequently. As she synced that music for a ton of television commercials, television specials, and television shows. Furthermore, at least two of the songs on that first debut album had the potential to be mega international hits had they ever been released by a major record label and another five or six songs on that album would have been lesser hits on the AAA charts. Hence, when you claim that the music they had Haley doing was horrible, it couldn't be anymore obvious that you not only have piss poor taste in music but that you also don't have the first damn clue what you are talking about and are just wasting everybody's damn time with your immense stupidity. Not to mention that Haley to this day still talks very glowingly about her time at Interscope Records because of all the freedom they allowed her. You aren't anything in the music business. You are an immense dumb low-information ignoramus is what you are. Now go bore someone else to death with your immense stupidity.

Has anyone told the story how this recording came about in the comments. It's a must know story. PMJ had been on tour in Europe as told by Scott Bradley in one of his interviews on KZbin. While inbetween recording sessions he ask Haley to record this song the day after a full session. Haley wasn't feeling well but wanted to do it. Scott said they did one take and Haley thought she could do it better and asked him too. He said "No I think we got this", so she did it in one take while not feeling well. And boy, was that one hell of a performance. She hadn't taken lessons. She learned how to sing with her parents, who are musicians and tour locally in Chicago area. She would play games with her father who plays a mean guitar and sings as well and mother who also has a fantastic voice. From that experience growing up with her musical family is how she learned to sing so well. She also has a younger sister who can sing and play real well to along with acting I believe. Very talented artsy blood line. If You want to hear another totally different very young singer, with loads of talent and loves old classic styles from rock to RnB to modern pop who also writes. Here's a completely unique sounding voice from the past who's been referred to as the next Janis Joplin or the next queen of rock with a modern new sound. Courtney Hadwin now only 16 years old. Pick anyone of these, but there's way more. Ballads or rock, her voice has always got a gritty growl at will and a deep and high tone timbre to her style. kzbin.infovideos

She was the internet sensation for all those who followed the Talent shows for quite some time. Comparison's to Janis Joplin, Mick Jagger, Tina Turner and a few others. All of whom she idolizes and learned from. Her stage presence and performing abilities are really not around anymore. Her music originals should have been released but COVID has put it on hold.
