@@donaldpaulson3920 I feel y'all. I was going strong with my first. I called her Lilly. We were childhood sweet hearts and I loved her so much. We likely would of lasted for life looking back at it and really thinking about it. We were together since middle school, and near the beginning of High School she took her own life. I constantly blamed myself for being too young, too dumb to realize her pain. I know I could of done more. I just didn't find out until it was far too late. She had taken her own life using a hand gun to the head. I still look back on that as one of my many reasons I became the man I was on today, I also constantly take care of others to try to make up for my failure. In a way I'm glad I do, it might hurt but I've literally changed so many lives for the better.

Don't know me so don't know but I'll throw my brother around, got like 80 lbs on me and ain't fat, gave a hernia a couple Christmas's back while wrestling bc he decided to get over amped, now he needs surgery for, put state wrestling champs hand in my cats puke and rubbed on his face lmao back in like 10th grade, good buddy of mine, many other examples but nah just to say I would have broken that dudes neck if I went to her funeral and saw him, her family understood when I apologized... which I appreciate. Life is hard as fk especially when a good person and someone you care about deals with something or the worst takes own life....kinda forgot what I was responding to, bit drunk and late, but man that's crazy and so sorry you gotta deal with the thoughts and just her being gone, another of mine is 1 of my best friends, he ended up getting with another of my bfs girlfriend while he lived in Texas awhile, secret comes up but he takes 22. Rifle walking, cops come up, took his life on the chin...the other buddy calling him over and over don't do anything stupid, felt so damn guilty took his own life....over nothing....fkd my other buddys head up bad, felt responsible, even tho on the girl.... which she was sad for like a week or two and wanted to be acknowledged by social media and everything just how bad she had it .....idk....like said many many stories

The song isn't a reconciliatory apology - it's an introspective one. I've always seen it a a song about the end of a relationship, one that didn't necessarily end because of cheating or "gross misdeeds", but because the singer is stagnant. He was happy how he was, as he'd always been, and that as the relationship developed, *he* didnt develop. There's certainly scope for the interpretation to include more egregious things, but they're not needed for the song to make sense and resonate. It's as much as an apology to his ex, as a vow to himself to be a better person and to grow and change, not necessarily in a directed way, but to move past that stage in his life, because what he lost has opened his eyes to who he was. It's not "I'm going to change *for* you.", it's "I'm going to change *because* of you."
@talisredstar15433 жыл бұрын
This is the great thing about music and art. All can have their own interpretations, and yet none of them be wrong. I say this because I see this song as both what MrLboyd said, and what you said it was. And just like in my post, I took from this song an interpretation that let move on from a relationship, and focus on my child.

The first time I heard the song was shortly after it came out. My boyfriend at the time played it for me, as a way to express his thinking and feelings. He's a recovering addict, and I, along with his family, were dealing with the fallout due to his revolving door in and out of jail and halfway houses. I was getting fed up with it, and he could tell even without my saying so. The song doesn't have to be about a romantic relationship, nor would it apply only to a physically abusive relationship. The song is one person going within, examining themself, accepting that they've made mistakes and owning the responsibility for those mistakes.

My wife and I slow danced to this at our wedding, and adopted it as our wedding song. It is just beautiful! I always imagined a music video (studio version) of this song. It would show two people getting dressed up in separate places, the guy would be laying out a suit while combing his hair, the girl putting on makeup in the mirror with a dress seen at the edge of the background. And the whole time they'd be getting ready, it'd have flash backs of the two fighting with each other, or seeming to hurt the other's feelings. This would go on until the end where you'd see the guy and girl head out of their rooms, then it'd cut to an over the shoulder view with the him standing facing forward as his back is turned away from a room full of people that are kind of blurred out. Then huge doors behind him would open and everything would come into focus, he'd turn and you'd see the girl in her wedding dress. They'd both look at each other, and smile. Then after she walks up to the alter to stand next to him, the song would fade, and the doors would close.

Your interpretation is a perfect one. Many years ago in my misspent youth I hurt someone emensely. I heard this song and said to this person " these are the words my heart is screaming to say!" The song spoke to them as I couldn't. Yes, a perfect apology letter to a romantic partner! Love your reviews!

This song is personal for me. My frist husband was on drugs and when I got pregnant with our frist daughter he changed for her bc of his ❤ love. Sadly he died at 32 on Father's day in 2013...our daughter was 4.. his depression was so bad and severe 😔.

This song makes me think about how much Jesus loves us and how much suffering He went through to save our souls. It makes me think about how grateful I am for His grace and mercy and how sorry I am for ever doubting His love for me ever.
