Most people can't even name all the members of Slipknot let alone keep track of who ex-members play for, most Slipknot fans didn't know who Eloy Casagrande was before joining Slipknot and there are still quite a few who don't know who his mentor is or who he plays for (hopefully Iron Maiden on their next tour). Slipknot fans might know, ST fans might know but not everyone.

Got super stoked when I saw this come up. I first discovered this channel when I saw your reaction to Spacehog and I actually discovered Infectious Grooves and Spacehog at the same time when me and my cousin were in a thrift store in the 90s and bought both albums for a dollar each. We had never heard either of them and didn't know what to expect but we ended up listening to both albums nonstop in his van all summer. I also read an interview with Rob Trujillo who said that his 3 finger galloping technique was what helped him nail the audition for Metallica playing songs like Battery finger style.

Im so glad to have grown up in the 90's, so much music all crammed together, and it worked, to have, funk intro, metal verse, with a rap sample, crowd shouting chorus before the bridge. I’ve watched your videos before but this one gets the like, subscribe and comment. I was and am a bigger fan of Suicidal than I was of Metallica so I had heard Rob’s playing from back in the day. It made me laugh that, in the video of Rob’s audition for Metallica, he suggests Battery and Lars asks him if he can play that fast with his fingers. Uhm yeah… he can. The other similarity to Primus that I always think is worth noting is that Les Claypool was invited to audition but everyone knew that his talents would be suppressed in Metallica. I think that’s the case for Rob as well. It’s not a complaint, I just know he’s capable of so much more than the style of Metallica allows him. Great video!

I'm probably going to catch hell for saying this. But!!!!! Rob is the Jaco Pastorius of my generation. At least in the genre of rock/punk/metal he is. What Jaco did for jazz/fusion/funk, Rob did for rock/punk and metal. Both are just 100% original. Some people try hard to be different. But Jaco and Rob just are different. And Rob is completely versatile. Technically Les Claypool is of the same caliber. But I don't think you could put Jaco or Les in Ozzy and Metallica and have it fit in perfectly. You could stick Rob in any band and it would fit. He's just rounded and well versed in everything. Hands down favorite Bass player in my generation of music. Rob is the best.

My introduction to Infectious Grooves was a friend of mine some how got a stack of the cassette singles for Cousin Randy and between the crazy clown artwork, the wild lyrics, and amazing music i was hooked. Infectious was actually the band I heard first that lead me to discovering Su!c!dal Tendencies when someone asked me what my favorite ST song and album was while listening to IG. They were completely flabbergasted and thought i was messing with them when i asked who ST were😂😂😂

I don't find all their songs bangers, but IG has got to be one of my favorite bands. The bass and drums, funky guitar, lead guitar... just awesome all around!!! I recall hearing "Therapy" for the first time on MTv and getting hooked - hearing Ozzy's part - and then the song having that short middle section which was reminiscent to me of a Stormtroopers of Death type groove (SOD = great band, humorous offensive lyrics, IIRC. Anthrax side project (?).). As a funk fan, "Locket in the Pocket" is probably my fav song of theirs (at the moment) - which I don't really hear getting much love. Heck, their live cover of "Fame" ads just enough flair to give the song just a bit more than the Bowie original... while keeping it largely in tact. (the original's bass groove is mostly in tact, so probably not for a reaction.) This was a good reaction. Thanks!

My first Rob experience was through this '97 ST re-recording of "Possessed to skate", now named "go skate". That bass intro is siiiiiick! As a non-bassist I've always been impressed by that one. Josh Paul (known mainly for being in Daughtry) played bass on that recording. Before the Daughtry gig came along he replaced Rob in ST and was with them from 1996-2002. He even recorded some bass tracks for Infectious Grooves on the Mas Borracho album in 2000.

Thanks, man. I still have this on the original CD in my actual CD player that I actually use in my truck. I haven't liked Metallica since ... And Justice, but I still dig Infectious Grooves and Suicidal Tendencies. They had creative balls and never sold out as a band. I understand that eventually, a musician wants a little fame and fortune, so they dance little for the man. I thank these bands for self imploding before they decided to cover Def Lepard to get a radio single. Trujillo is massively talented, and I don't blame him for joining the biggest metal band in history after they went AOR. He's got to make money at some point. If you're going to sell out, sell out with a huge paycheck in a band way past its prime who already sold out years ago. He's got to appreciate all the money he's making now playing much, much easier parts. He's the Claypool of AOR metal, and he deserves it for keeping the faith for so long.

To know the whole story, one must begin in the beginning. Suicidal Tenancies. The tone shifts and delivery between the two projects is all about the BASS! Each band sounds almost exactly the same. Each bands vocals sound almost exactly the same except the bass play is the "character" that the rest of the band dances and jokes around. Suicidal Tendencies is a serious band with heavy content and they used their band to reach out to troubled people and stick them in mosh pit/safespace. Infectious Grooves was them just having a blast without the responsibility they took up in ST.
