Well, to make it short: Jay-Z's mom made him apologize for his verses in Super Ugly, basically giving an "that was not the education I gave you" to him. Nas was also on a hiatus to take care of his dying mom, so he wasn't in the mood for a diss, made Ether because people in the hood was pressing him daily for an answer. According to Carmen, Jay was in fact a stan to Nas, even wanting to know everything about the way Nas made sex and shit like that. Nas dropped Ether on Jay's birthday, first time Jay-Z heard it was when he entered a party and the DJ saw him and put the song, to his ungrateful surprise. So Ether was a birthday gift.

Jay been in it since 88 when he was rapping fast with Jaz-O and hs name was Iceberg the rapper. Nas started in 91' but his first album didn't drop until 94', and his fourth album in 99' which would also make Jay and Nas album wise have the same amount of years (5years) So to say Nas switched his flow but Jay switched his between 88 and 96 before he changed his name to Jay-Z. How can he have 1 hot album every ten years from 91-01 when his first album dropped in 94'??? Jay said "4 albums in 10 years nigga I can divide/,.....That division is horrible. Searchlight publishing did not mess over Nas because Nas gets 25% of Jay-Z publishing from Reasonable Doubt from "Dead Presidents II" with Nas sample. Meaning from jump nas owned a percentage. How would that mean he's getting messed over?? Nothing Jay said made any sense if you go back and look up the dates of the albums. How is that facts? Ether was Science. Strong Claims with Strong evidence. Takeover only was received well because of that beat and how he did verse one and two leading up to Nas diss. Nice try tho.

If i remember correctly, reason she got w Jay in the first place was as a get back on Nas cos he wasn't paying her no mind at the time. Imagine ur bm getting with ur biggest enemy just to spite you. Btch is a certified psycho... 😂 Anyway, Jays own mother had to step in after Supa Ugly came out and made him publicly apologise. I think the back and forth on records ended after that apology. General consensus is that Ether is still considered the better record out of the lot regardless, so Nas ultimately won in most ppls eyes. That Ether joint literally jump started Nas' career back up, cos he'd been slowly falling off before that and Jay Z's Take Over was supposed to be the "nail in his coffin" which would officially crown him as the king of NY. It was all or nothing for Nas at this point and if he hadn't come correct with his response, then i honestly can't tell you where Nas' career would be right now. In 2002 when it came out, I literally though Jay ended Nas' career 🤣 BUT when Nas dropped Ether....he accomplished damn near the impossible. Nas saved his career, reputation, made JayZ bow out (in his prime), elevated the art of rap, made one of the best diss records of all time, and let everyone know he wasnt the one 🤣. The battle even made the regular newspapers ( I still have it). It was a historic day for the culture.

Part of what made Ether "feel" so powerful... Nas had been on a lull and kinda felt like he had been gone for a minute. Definitely a min since he was "hot." He even admitted it on his following album and said this battle made him step his game up. They both don't perform these songs today. Both amazing lyricists and definitely two of the GOATS living.

As far as Nas, Takeover had strong claims with odd evidence. Not everything on Takeover was factual. Jay been in it since 88 when he was rapping fast with Jaz-O and hs name was Iceberg the rapper. Nas started in 91' but his first album didn't drop until 94', and his fourth album in 99' which would also make Jay and Nas album wise have the same amount of years (5years) So to say Nas switched his flow but Jay switched his between 88 and 96 before he changed his name to Jay-Z. How can he have 1 hot album every ten years from 91-01 when his first album dropped in 94'??? Jay said "4 albums in 10 years nigga I can divide/,.....That division is horrible. Searchlight publishing did not mess over Nas because Nas gets 25% of Jay-Z publishing from Reasonable Doubt from "Dead Presidents II" with Nas sample. Meaning from jump nas owned a percentage. How would that mean he's getting messed over?? Nothing Jay said made any sense if you go back and look up the dates of the albums. How is that facts? Ether was Science.
