You hit on one of JD's marketing challenges. The country world dismissed him as pop/folk; the folk world dismissed him as country/pop; the pop world dismissed him as folk/country. The listening world just kept buying his records and singing his songs.

He wrote this song while riding the chairlift one day in aspen after an argument with his wife. I played this song at my wedding I had the. Chance to meet him one afternoon in Breckinridge and skiing he bought all of a drink who happened to be sitting there he is as nice as you would imagine. I could have sat there and listened to his story’s for hours but his driver came and picked him up. And we just sat there and laughed and couldn’t believe what had just happened. I meet plenty of stars at the hotel I work at I have another story about the band poison but we will save that for a poison reaction!

"Sunshine" by John Denver is one of my favorite songs of his, along with "Leavin On a Jetplane". The Folkband Peter, Pau and Mary, another great band, had a big hit with Leavin On A Jetplane in the 1960s during the beginning of the Vietnam War.. I was just a Toddler at the time, but it was one of the first songs I remember and I fell in love with it then. Denver was such a terrific Singer/ Songwriter.

John's impact during his life would be hard to overestimate. His songwriting reached well beyond even the songs he is known for performing and recording. One of my favorites, although a lesser known song, is "Looking for Space." It is somewhat autobiographical and hints at his personal struggles with depression. It is thought provoking and very touching.

I remember as a young kid in the late 60's early 70's listening to John, he had a unique voice very easy to listen to a shame he was lost to way to early in life for him, his family and his fans who loved his music. John, having his musical root's in folk music really made it big with his giant hit "TAKE ME HOME COUNTRY ROAD" which made a huge crossover into the country music, side.

I performed this song multiple times per week for five summers as a member of John's road band. I love this song. You will see a huge difference between "Annie's Song" and "Annie's Other Song." John is my favorite artist of all time! I think John's greatest strength is how to allows his band to be such a great part of each song! Please listen to the live version from "The Wildlife Concert" which has Pete Huttlinger on Mandolin, Jim Horn on Flute, and John had James Burton (Elvis' and Roy Orbison's guitarist) in his band for many years and he's in that concert as well. Look up those musicians I just mentioned, such amazing musicians and world renowned! John written or performed so many kinds of songs and I can provide a good list. My favorite song is "Poems, Prayers, and Promises" which is about reflecting about life (find a live version). Another great love song is "Shanghai Breezes" from "The Wildlife Concert." Then there's the other side, "Two Different Directions" about how people drift apart, and "I'm Sorry" about losing that love and being alone and regret. Another song like that is "Falling Out of Love." Another amazing song is "This Old Guitar" about the guitar his Grandmother gave him and he spoke about it on a tv special and it puts a tear in my eye when I watch it. Then "Calypso" he wrote about Jacques Cousteau and his research in the ocean. John gave the royalties of that song to The Cousteau foundation. So many great songs from John Denver and listen to his covers of "Fire and Rain" and "Mr. Bojangles." I wrote a lot but John Denver meant so much to me in my life!
