Very true, I had a massive crush on Susanna Hoffs after seeing them from the front row as the opening act on tour in 1984.

Radically underrated band -- they were amazing musicians and performers, dismissed on account of being attractive women. Their cover of S&G's "Hazy Shade of Winter" is my favorite, but pretty much everything they sang was worth listening to.

You couldn't get away from this song in the 80s. It was a tremendous hit. I agree, production wise, it's magical. This band really has so much more to offer than Walk Like an Egyptian. You should also check them out live. They are legitimately talented. Their deep cuts are even better than the hits.

There are some chords that evoke nostalgia even if the song is unknown to you. It has happened to me often when a song I've never heard takes me back to a place and time I've never been. It's a sign of very good composition meant to evoke a certain feeling to connect you to a song.

This song and video was almost inescapable when it released in the 80s. I always felt her voice had the right amount of tragedy in it to make this song the “banger” it was.

Back in my teenage years Susanna Hoffs, (lead singer) had a death grip on my heart. And she's still breathtaking, in her 60's. But now, in my early 50's, my heart belongs entirely to Micki Steele, the bass player.

Totally takes me back to the 80's. It came out just after I graduated high school (1984) in '87 or '88. While working at an ambulance service, the video would come on MTV in the breakroom and all the guys would rush in to watch Sussanah Hoffs and the other gals. LOL

Enjoyed your reaction. I was 16 when this song came out, and it was a massive hit. MTV played the video incessantly. The video was a number one hit on Dial MTV and MTV's Top 20 Video Countdown. Radio stations had the song on heavy rotation. Lol... It was everywhere.

Bangles all girl band hit at the right time, at the start of MTV when all they did was actually show music videos hosted by a small group of "veejays". Susan Hoffs really shows her lead singing prowness. This whole album is a banger IMO. Check out Manic Mondays.

Hi Steven! You are definitely in my top 2 of my favorite reaction videos and contrary to @Dizjake, I loved this reaction! This song is from 1988 and was my wedding song. It's absolutely beautiful and I love this choice. My favorite thing about you is when a song hits the climatic part, you can genuinely see the excitement in your eyes and face, it's awesome! You're so awesome! One of my other favorites from the Bangles is "If She new what she wants" although I'm not sure if Dizjake would agree. He was rude and his entire comment upset me, just because he didn't like the song he didn't need to be so rude and I'm apologizing for him. Godspeed ❤

I think it makes you feel like a kid because it is real singing, a warm voice singing directly into the microphone, where you can hear her breath and the humanity of a singer, something we no longer get to hear in modern music. The way music is made now, everything is manipulated, corrected, and dehumanized...and great singers' voices can be ruined when they are pitch-corrected or autotuned unnecessarily, which can make them sound worse. Then people who can't sing are electronically made to sound like they can (though no one is fooling me). When you hear real, down-to-earth artistry from the past, it sounds cozy and real and familiar.

Some "experts" tend to look down on those years, especially when it comes to music. But how can they explain the unwavering popularity of bands like the Bangles or Bananarama? Well, they can't.

Prince was extremely smitten with lead singer Susannah Hoffs, and wrote their hit "Main Monday" for her. However, to me the penultimate Bangles song is their cover of Jules Shear and the Polar Bears" "If She Knew What She Wants." It is power pop at its finest. On an unrelated note, I enjoy the heck out of your reactions. It's like experiencing songs I take for granted for the first time again (maybe because we're both follicle-challenged drummers?) But I've noticed a disappointing trend in reaction videos - someone will post something and suddenly everyone else is "discovering" it. If you'd like to beat this trend and give some exposure to some great music by somewhat lesser-known artists (and get hit hard in the feels at the same time) I have some suggestions for you; I've spent my life expressing emotions through music, and it's become more prevalent since I became almost completely blind about 15 years ago (another story for another time.) Some of these would be my contenders for the greatest songs ever written. Big Star - Thirteen This Mortal Coli - Song of the Siren Concrete Blonde - Everybody Knows Concrete Blonde - Tomorrow, Wendy Steve Earle and the Dukes - Saint of Lost Causes (his son originally wrote and performed the song, and died of a dug overdose - if you watch the live version it will wrench your soul) Beat Farmers - Hollywood Hills Warren Zevon - Bill Lee Sonia Dada - I'm Gone (from the Lay Down and Love It Live album) Beth Hart and Joe Bonnamassa - I'd Rather Go Blind (live version) Tyler Childers - Nose to the Grindstone Devil Makes Three - Angel of Death Amigo the Devil - 24k Casket That'll do for a start - I'll hush now.

Great song with great vocal performances. I just wish they'd re-record the backing with either real strings or modern samples.

I’m going off topic because I recently got turned on to some wild stuff. Since you seem to like stuff that’s unique and a bit different. There are songs by popular bands as if they were done in the 50’s for examples. The Led Zeppelins, The Deep Purples, and The Black Sabbaths. It’s all pretty wild and I think you might get a kick out of checking it out. There are a few others but take Iron Man from Sabbath for example. They’re normally whole albums so you have to ff thru songs to get to specific songs, but definitely cool.

Steven, you're one of my top 3 favorite reactions nowadays but let me tell you, I'm upset with this pick. The Bangles have so many amazing rocking top 10 hits and you pick to slowest most boring song they have. I'm highly disappointed in this video. As a matter of fact I'm not going to watch this one. I'll wait until you do one of their other amazing songs. See ya next reaction.
