This recording is a demo for the song that he was planning on recording with his band. It is so haunting knowing what happened to him. It is a love letter for his wife, Lorrie Morgan. He must have felt that something was going to happen to him.

Lorrie Morgan she’s his wife. She herself is a country singer. She has a beautiful voice. Perfect for country. When you see clips of them together. It’s obvious they adore each other. They got married in 86, had a son in 87. Keith passed in 89.

As the story goes. He recorded this by himself on a tape recorder in his hotel room. They found him the next day dead, guitar on the floor, an empty whiskey bottle, and the recorder. I have heard many variations, so don't take this as absolute fact, but sounds real to me.

Keith was in a popular bluegrass band and traveling with them at like..age 15. He got into alcohol at a young age and alcohol is such a hard thing to kick because it's just so easy to buy and everyone's drinking and you're playing in bars and touring. It's really tough and you never expect it to take you out like the hard drugs. The only guy who can really cover Keith Whitley songs is Daryl Singeltary. He also died too soon, but from a heart attack. He was pretty similar as well. You really gotta check that guy out.

He was doing good, she went on tour and did not want to go, her career was taking off. He started drinking and has not drunk in a long time and got alcohol poisoning and died. His Mother spoke with his one morning and I think he was die the next day( not sure)
