This has to be one of the most heart-breaking songs in history! It's hard to say you can "enjoy" a song like this, but you CAN. Sometimes listening to a sad song can make you feel better when you are sad yourself.

Linda Ronstadt had the most beautiful voice on the planet for many years until it was stolen by a neurological disorder. A wonderful performer in every sense and a beautiful human being. That performance you mentioned was at the Tennessee State Prison with Johnny Cash in 1974. She’s the best🌺✌️

Linda could sing aany genre and make it her own. She did an album I’ve given as baby shower gifts. Dedicated to the one I love. She took popular songs and had them arranged as lullabies. Really worth a listen even if you don’t react to any.

Yeah the last verse is the most heart-breaking, as she's finally given up on the guy. TV shows, especially in the 60s and 70s would often cut parts of songs in order to fit the performance into a short time.

Linda has a beautiful voice and did write a few of her own songs but for the most part she sang other people's music often helping those composers get a solid start in the music business. Her bands were always top tier as well. I have seen her live a few times, always an excellent show. I even had the opportunity to see her live a couple of times in small venues where it was a very intimate atmosphere. Her voice is so emotive, she can send chills and goosebumps through you or make you cry. Thank you for your reaction.

Hi Shon, This song always just pierces my heart. Linda was one of the voices of a generation along with Karen Carpenter. I’m glad you found the strength of her voice. Another favorite song of hers is “Alison” which was written by Elvis Costello. Linda is a rabbit hole and there are so many variations on the songs she sings, yes including Latin songs of her heritage. I’m going to give you a sideways recommendation. It’s from a young lesser known artist. Her name is Tori Holub. When people say no one sings songs like this one anymore. I say have you heard Tori, that’s exactly what she’s doing. And doing justice to them. First a Short video for proof of concept. She covered Long Long Time, recently. So it’s a great sample of her voice. Then I’ll give you my actual request. kzbin.infoRSJuR7VGkcY?si=wMk26sec01n1H45S If you like what you heard from above then let’s go to her recent full length song. It’s a cover but done in a new arrangement just for Tori. The song is the Ray Charles classic; Georgia On My Mind. I have a related question, as you are listening to Georgia, and you’re a coach on The Voice. How fast are you slamming the red button? Georgia: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eoTSe2Cjp9Fko6Msi=m9oPNz0LojLmOGhu I hope you react to lesser known artists with an amazing voice. Thanks for your time, enjoy!. Joe

Virtuoso singing NOT screaming. She doesn’t rush or wail or over emote, which is all too common with singers more intent on proving they are divas than feeling the song. Proving she is the ultimate singer.

If you want a taste of why we old farts rave about going to concerts in the 70's check this one out. It is Linda Ronstadt in Germany in 1976. There is a German music show (I think it is still on) that would broadcast full concerts and some they taped are still available. This is one of those. Just Linda, her voice, and her backing band giving us some incredible music. This is all so many musicians gave us. No costume changes, no pyrographics, no fancy visuals, just great music. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bXOuqKenYrt1hKM

Also love all of your music videos and the different ranges you watch in hell you can appreciate them all. Lots of them are my generation which was 60s, 70s 80s and 90s. Linda Ronstadt covered all those starting in the 70s and had the best female voice ever except may be Karen Carpenter. It was very hard for me to take a chance and listen to this, because two of Linda songs bring back so quickly the heartbreak of one man that those two songs take me right back to that spot, which is what love songs do when you connect them to a certain relationship, the two of hers and then plus George Harrison’ss What Is Life, Which I do recommend you play cause it’s a great tune… Another one dedicated to his wife, Patty Boyd, who had so many songs written about her from George and Eric Clapton. She sure was a muse to big rock stars, ha ha. Yes please listen to George’s what is life kzbin.info/www/bejne/nl6nfoBsZr90rM0si=WzKNYGrR_7UqLFCm & Linda’s Guess it Doesn’t Matter Anymore kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKOpqquirt1jj8Usi=DhIIcv92CyviFnoW

Well ding dang but you picked the wrong video to watch of this song. This is an abridged version of the song(there is another verse).I don't know if this was originally shortened because of time during the performance(those things happened back in the day) or that somewhere along the way, this just was clipped short. If you check with the lyrics you will see what I am talking about. It is really worth it to hear the full song.

She is among the many singer-songwriter groups and artists who collaborated in Laurel Canyon LA California area in the late 60’s through the 70’s which included Jackson Browne who you recently reacted to. Missing some content and context with this version, it's abbreviated from the studio version and missing a full verse/stanza. Still good but not the full representation of the song and her talent. Great review though. You continue to dial in the meaning of the lyrics and the meat of the song, and you have a great appreciation of good music of any genre.
